- One Song Concert #61
"This is a song by John Stewart, first recorded in 1968 as a duet with Buffy Ford. The Razzy Dazzy Spasm Band performed the song in the 1970's and early 80's but never recorded it . We learned it from a record by the Red, White and Bluegrass Band, way back when. I love the song! I hope you like the video. It's been a while!

Nice to hear this rendition of the great John Stewart song - gawd I miss Stewart. Thanks for paying homage to him.
Thanks John. When the world gets crazy, I hear you and feel grounded again.
These Sunday drops of the One Song Concerts literally take my breath away! We are so fortunate for these!!
No bells and whistles. Just you, your heart, and your performance. Perfect. Thank you.
I saw him on Saturday in Santa Fe - what a voice - what lyrics - what a gentleman - excellent show. He really touched some folks with his lyrics - literally brought some folks to tears. I like his New Jersey song - but I'm originally from Jersey City so....
What a treat. Love the intro John did on the Phoenix Concerts LP. "Where you goin'?" "Seattle mister, where you goin'?" "Well hell I was just giving to the store for cigarettes but I'll go to Seattle if you will" 😊. Bless him and Buffy.
I've got that line memorized too. Love this John's singing of another John's song.
Thanks, John, a nice surprise early morning. I saw John Stewart at McCabe's, Santa Monica in '78 or so, a brilliant voice gone too soon.
Cheers to you, friend, we'll see you in Oregon in '24.
John…. If you were a wine I would say that your vintage has aged to perfection… Thank you sincerely for all your music… And by the way… I’m from New Jersey…😊
Omg i just said the same!
Thank you 😊
one of my favs by Stewart great job John
Nice job John. I really like your soft style. Reminds me a bit of me. We both got white hair, beards, and write songs. Google willie nelson free soul. Nice little studio you got. Good sound acoustics.
Doug’s son Marshall showed me the chords for this back when he was a teenager, and he and Ol’ Moose used to come to my open mic in Bellefonte. Always a favorite, I seldom do a longer show without including a Stewart cover.
I swear, your voice gets better every time. Guess I'll have to find the music for this one, too! (Now that my "All That Hammering" is beginning to be recognizable.) Thank you for sharing this!
Beautiful version of a song I've long loved -- and long played myself. (I too skip Stewart's oh-so-country modulation at the end). For those who are unfamiliar with the song, check out the entire California Bloodlines album from whence it came. An early (1969) Americana classic.
My favorite John Stewart song! Great job! 👍
John Gorka! I stumbled upon you on fb marketplace, thru the ad for the Concord show. I saw you Many yrs ago..is it only 30?! I have always loved your voice, you songs..sadly I’m just moving to nh in the previous wkend so don’t think I could make the show…you still sound fantastic, like a fine aged wine…I’ll be listening to the tiny concerts for sure…best wishes and thank you for more wonderful music…
Welcome to NH! You missed a great show, but John regularly plays around the state.
Thanks for sharing, John...just makes my day anytime I get to hear your voice
This has always been one of my favorite John Stewart songs……..thank you ❤
Grateful
That’s all I have. Bless you and yours
wonderful to hear Johns interpretation of John Stewart.
You look like you found God on Mt. Sinai and went white and half crazy, but it's a great look. Keep 'em coming my friend. Had all your songs loaded alphabetically in the player and drove for an hour and we were still in the B's. Gonna have to drive all the way out west to get to everything. Be well!
Great interpretation, thank you. I also remember seeing John Stewart at McCabe’s in the 70s. I wonder if John Gorka was also playing there and somehow I missed him
Grande. Hit. Very. Good
Beautiful
👍
Heartfelt lyrics .. sung by Leo the Lion …
Parts of this song remind me very much of Paul Simons "The Boxer ". Now both songs emerged about the same and so I wonder if one influenced the other.
No chance
i understand personalizing it with your own style , but i dont know why you changed the lyrics , it wasnt good enough the way it was written ?
