The bands you mentioned have all recorded the songs, and perhaps helped to popularize them further, but they didn't write them. Becky, that special album song on top of old Smokey, pick a bale of cotton, midnight special, or what Americans call “traditional arrangement”. Meaning that they don’t have any real known author because they were originally sung by American slaves I believe and adapted into folk songs later on. I believe ABBA chose those songs because they didn’t have to pay the royalties on them.
Nu alla goda vanners skal (sweden), Pick a bale of cotton (USA), midnight special(USA) and on top of old smokey (USA) are anonimous old traditional folk songs and Tiveds Hambo is an ABBA song

I've watched clips of that special before. There is a real chemistry between them, but the production looks amateurish. Bad camera work and positions and bad audio quality and mixing. It doesn't do justice to 6 fabulous performers.
