This is more than a song to me. This song represents how much Sonic has grown, in terms of power and knowledge. Think back to Sonic Adventure. Sonic had to go Super Sonic to calm him down, but in this game? Sonic only used boost, homing attacks and fucked up Perfect Chaos big time.
This remix really grew on me. At first I didn't like how the chorus was kind of "out of tone" if you know what I mean. I did however, like the muffled verses. Sounded pretty cool.
I always thought this song was what Sonic was thinking during the fight as a kid and when "I don't know want it's about you that drives me crazy, but all you're cunning tricks makes me sick, you won't have it your own way." was directed towards Dr.Robotnik.
when people say that shit song "lacks energy" the muffling of the lyrics and detuning of the main melody, is to give a wetter and more submerged feel, all while reminding you that this is 2011 sonic. so he has obviously aged, so the song has aged with him, so take it as more of a retelling/memory, than a remix. both songs are good in their own way, it's just the new one is made to fit in with modern sonic. if they used the original, people would complain that the music composers/sonic team are just lazy. so be happy that you noticed that they actually did something else. this song is fucking awesome!
***** Strange you say that. The original one sounds way more metal to me, here's it's like "hey, we have a drum machine ! Let's put automatic mode all over the song !" The original wasn't overproduced too.
I feel bad for Crush 40 because they had to do 3 versions of this song. 1: Sonic Adventure Version ( AKA original) 2: The Very Best Of( Crush 40) mix and 3: Generations version
I think it does, for the fact it's giving a distorted, "remember this?" vibe. It's awesomely intense when you think of what it was, and to where it's come.
the perfect chaos boss was no joke and how did the city stay like that for the rest of the sonic adventure series i thought it was beautiful and pretty but it is still in rebel
I don't know why, but I'm just imagining Dante from Devil May Cry 4 on guitar, Nero on bass, Vergil on drums, Raiden from Revengeance on the mic and Bayonetta on the keyboard and synth with this remix. AND IT IS FUCKIG AWESOME!!!!
0:06 **insert Keizer Ghidorah roar here** Anyone else think this rendition of Open Your Heart sounds rather No More Heroes-ish with a touch of Devil May Cry? I'll never forget you, Crush 40. It's been quite a blast listening to your work. I'll miss ye.
I played through this game blind when I first played it no joke after I saw chaos emerge out of the water my jaw friggin dropped omg this was my childhood
Thats just what I love about it from a mythology of Sonic perspective. It shows that indeed he does get stronger from adventure to adventure how he's able to kill the thing he could only calm down in super mode before.
Sonic has been in my life since 1991, the year I was born. Ofcourse I didn't play the Mega Drive games then but when i was about 3 or 4 years old in 1994/1995 I picked up a game controller for the very first time and learned of the Mega Drive. I then saw this game one day in one of those small, video and game rental stores. This game was for sale for £17 if I remember correctly. That game was Sonic the Hedgehog. I pestered my mum to buy it... she did... and here I am 20 yrs on a die hard fan. :D
I acually like both versions, as well as some remixes. The funny part is that I heard the 30 minute extention of this before anything else. And, no matter who says what, this will be one of my favorites songs, favorite extentions (30 min. is the best to me), and will be the best version of this song (and it has a special place in my heart).
There's a hint of the original design in SA1. If you look at the Perfect Chaos mural during the cutscene after beating the stage Lost World. You'll see that Perfect Chaos has his armor.
I know they're not doing anything like this anymore, but it still saddens me that they're done. However, I accept it, and enjoy the stuff they have done. After all, my childhood was filled with the same music.
I am IN LOVE with the opening guitar riff. DUNNNUUUUUUUUUUU. Also this remix is awesome and I really liked the redone boss. It actually felt more badass than the original. Tails: Sonic, use the Chao-- Sonic: Move, Tails! I've got work to do! And it took him LESS HITS than it did with Super Sonic. It really shows how much stronger Sonic has gotten over the years.
No matter how bad some of the Sonic games may be (namely "Sonic The Hedgehog '06" and "Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric"), you just can't go wrong with anything by Crush 40, who has always done some excellent songs from the games over the years. :)
Personally i think this fits the fight with Perfect Chaos perfectly. It sounds like a more depressing and dark version, which fits the atmosphere of the fight since Chaos is a HUGE monster and fighting it seems slim to none, plus Station Square is in ruins. A perfect fit if you ask me.
never thought something could get better than the original.....then i ehard this.....omg this made this fight worth the entire game(even though the whole game was great)
I don't think it's so much of a changing concept, but moreso finally being able to do what they really wanted Chaos to look like in the first place. Remember, the Dreamcast (and to a lesser extent gamecube) is an old system, so I don't think it would have even had the power to provide a decent looking model for Chaos that fit fit the design exactly. One of the perks for newer systems, I guess.
@TheSonicMaster23 He looks like what he was intended to in Generations. They couldn't make him look the way he now does back in the day due to graphical limitations of the Dreamcast. If you look at the mural at the end of the Lost World level in SA as Sonic, you see the mural depicts Chaos more like he looks in Generations than he did in the game itself. I personally prefer his current appearance, but its all down to personal preference in the end.
Same could be said for Paper Mario: You play as an Italian plumber made of paper who eats mushrooms and fights turtles alongside talking creatures. Yet somehow the games still have enjoyable stories. And so have a few Sonic games, such as Sonic colors...So yeah. There goes your argument.
@TheSonicMaster23 Well, he definitely looked more like what he was supposed to be in the original game, a giant water monster. But now, I think he looks more solid and dangerous. In the original game, he was scary, and whenever you came around a corner and saw him at the end of the street, it was horrifying, but you had this sense of, "Yeah, he's frightening, but he seems weak." In this game, he's always watching you, and that was even more terrifying than the original.
@burnerthehedgehog i have but what i mean is, I cant really see a entire level with sonic underwater, unless you mean a boss fight in a underwater base or somthing
You deserve a high-five, man. They definitely are still working at it, I just don't think it'll live after 2014. Developers hate the hardware and would rather not spend a lot of time working with it, Nintendo will be too busy working with their next handheld to give the 3DS love. I sooo can't wait for a new Nintendo handheld that doesn't suck. ;
@swizzermon You notice how he reverts back to saying "Ancients Cities Blazin, Shadows Keep Attackin, Little Children Cryin, Confusion, Hopeless Anger" ect at the end of this version? Well he doesn't do that in the original version. It makes it sound like Sonic failed to beat Perfect Chaos and he continues to wreck havoc, while in the original it makes it seem like Sonic pulled off his finishing move and destroyed Perfect Chaos. Get it now?
The Time Eater could potentially travel through different dimensions. It could be the reason why Chaos looks different, and you fight the Egg Dragoon with regular Sonic. (Sonic was still the Werehog at the time of the original fight.) It would even explain why they fight differently.
@swizzermon You know, I don't think the song would loop back to "Ancient Cities Blazin", when those lyrics didn't even occur at the beginning of the song. "Thunder, rain, and Lightning" were at the beginning of the song, "Ancient Cities Blazin" wasn't.
Personally, I'd have preferred an even number of classic zones to modern zones. While I was playing it I was thinking, "What? Just because there were only 3 main classic Sonic games you're only going to have 3 zones?" And growing up I always considered Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles separate games even though they technically weren't, so I felt cheated out of at least one classic stage. I did like that they tried to make up for it by combining elements of classic zones with the modern zones.
well, in the Deadly Six's case, Sonic was the one to blame there Eggman had it under control with the Magic Conch Shell (that's basically a dog whistle), but Sonic had to think "That shell looks like trouble" and kick it out of his hand
I love this song, original and remix.
"Hey ya big drip, where you going?"
U KNOW NOTHING FOOL IT'S CHAOS THE GOD OF DESTRUCTION O HO HO HO HO
+Pixel Gaming hey look a talking egg
+Demon x Carnage-Vlogs uh oh
hypershadix1 SILENCE AM DR ROBOTNIK THE GREATEST SCIENCE GINUES IN THE WORLD
+Pixel Gaming whatever you say Eggman
This is more than a song to me. This song represents how much Sonic has grown, in terms of power and knowledge. Think back to Sonic Adventure. Sonic had to go Super Sonic to calm him down, but in this game? Sonic only used boost, homing attacks and fucked up Perfect Chaos big time.
I always thought it was badass how he doesn't need to go super -saiyan- for Chaos as he got older
damn i got so pISSED when i got to the second phase and they cut this song off AGAIN
I know
This remix really grew on me. At first I didn't like how the chorus was kind of "out of tone" if you know what I mean. I did however, like the muffled verses. Sounded pretty cool.
Same here
Victor Samreth It's not QUITE as good as the original, but Open Your Heart is the kind of song so perfect that it needs to be remixed into infinity.
+Emerald Nero out of tune? he's singing in the same key but different notes.
+MarioTiempo nvm i read this wrong
0:00 Waking up on a Friday be like
+DaSonic1 Instrumental= Fridays
Lyrics= Mondays
+Adam Crosby (TheARanker)
Waking up on Mondays: Can't hold on much longer.
Waking up on Fridays: BUT I WILL NEVER LET GO!!!
MegaLegoLuigiEX Waking up on Mondays: I know it's a one-way track
Waking up on Fridays: TELL ME NOW HOW LONG THIS WILL LAST!
I always thought this song was what Sonic was thinking during the fight as a kid and when "I don't know want it's about you that drives me crazy, but all you're cunning tricks makes me sick, you won't have it your own way." was directed towards Dr.Robotnik.
You ain't the only one.
The Doom same
+Fred “Dopple Gengar” Fuchs I think that was the general idea, actually.
"HEY I'LL PLAY WITH YOU SOME OTHER TIME!"
Looks like you lived up to your promise from 10 years ago Sonic.
Crush 40 has always and will be the best! We'll never forget how awesome the music was since sonic adventure 1! RIP Crush 40.
But..Crush 40 is still making music! They've uploaded a preview of their new song at their youtube channel, go take a look!
ashthedragon
Dang. Didn't seen that coming. Thanks, I love Crush 40.
There BACK BOYS
I can feel it now...together movin' on...we got the strength we need...and we're feeling strong!
I like how this remix went for a darker tone, makes the fight more intense
Mega Crash The Hedgehog "more darker"
when people say that shit song "lacks energy" the muffling of the lyrics and detuning of the main melody, is to give a wetter and more submerged feel, all while reminding you that this is 2011 sonic. so he has obviously aged, so the song has aged with him, so take it as more of a retelling/memory, than a remix.

this song is fucking awesome!
"Can't hold on much longer, but I will never let go", that was my mindset when it came to Sonic until this game.
This gives me goosebumps of childhood :D
I know right :D
man, never before have i heard such an epic remix!
i think its tied between this and the classic city escape
***** Strange you say that. The original one sounds way more metal to me, here's it's like "hey, we have a drum machine ! Let's put automatic mode all over the song !"
The original wasn't overproduced too.
I like where the annotation is placed.
Never realized why people liked this vocal song the best. ...That was until I encountered Perfect Chaos in Sonic Generations.
It's gonna be hard to forget those time paradoxes once they're discovered. But yeah, this game can still be enjoyable.
thanks for your upload, this ver is still awesome like original ver
I feel bad for Crush 40 because they had to do 3 versions of this song.
1: Sonic Adventure Version ( AKA original)
2: The Very Best Of( Crush 40) mix
and 3: Generations version
2 and 3 were remixes, they only did the original
Gotta say I prefer this remix to the original
George Brownie Same. It's just too awesome. Especially 2:41
I think it does, for the fact it's giving a distorted, "remember this?" vibe. It's awesomely intense when you think of what it was, and to where it's come.
Better than the original. Seriously, I love this remix so much!
One of Crush 40's most epic songs just got even more Epic!
i like this remix cause it doesnt have that long nearly empty intro at the start. sure its cool but its offputting in a music playlist.
A chorus that knows you are gonna sing along and gives you the wheel! Genius!
the perfect chaos boss was no joke and how did the city stay like that for the rest of the sonic adventure series i thought it was beautiful and pretty but it is still in rebel
I think they rebuilt it...
urg all those words il do it in 1 word awsome
I don't know why, but I'm just imagining Dante from Devil May Cry 4 on guitar, Nero on bass, Vergil on drums, Raiden from Revengeance on the mic and Bayonetta on the keyboard and synth with this remix. AND IT IS FUCKIG AWESOME!!!!
lol wut
GravityZero It has a sort of Devil May Cry feel to it.
I like that you do more than just put the soundtrack up. Like you gave a link to the orig. Thx for all the uploads.
0:06 **insert Keizer Ghidorah roar here**
Anyone else think this rendition of Open Your Heart sounds rather No More Heroes-ish with a touch of Devil May Cry?
I'll never forget you, Crush 40. It's been quite a blast listening to your work. I'll miss ye.
I played through this game blind when I first played it no joke after I saw chaos emerge out of the water my jaw friggin dropped omg this was my childhood
A Drawing Guy I had a few moments like that too (including the Perfect Chaos boss), I was also shocked (and excited) when City Escape was a stage!
whenever i listen to this ten times in a row i always imagine the epic boss fight between super sonic and perfect chaos
Thats just what I love about it from a mythology of Sonic perspective. It shows that indeed he does get stronger from adventure to adventure how he's able to kill the thing he could only calm down in super mode before.
Same here man. Cept' I picked up the controller of a Genesis and started playing STH2. Never looked back.
Sonic has been in my life since 1991, the year I was born. Ofcourse I didn't play the Mega Drive games then but when i was about 3 or 4 years old in 1994/1995 I picked up a game controller for the very first time and learned of the Mega Drive. I never thought I would get nostalgia from the late 90's
@Truesonic1 Thanks for uploading all Sonic the hedgehog songs for all games, you are the best!!!
when there's one drop of rain in australia
today is the last day before generations comes out so we will hear this music and feel pumped for all the levels
There's a hint of the original design in SA1. If you look at the Perfect Chaos mural during the cutscene after beating the stage Lost World. You'll see that Perfect Chaos has his armor.

Tails: Sonic, use the Chao--
Sonic: Move, Tails! I've got work to do!
And it took him LESS HITS than it did with Super Sonic. It really shows how much stronger Sonic has gotten over the years.
Graphics have really been boosted since the last time sonic fought "Perfect Chaos."
Good progress in making yourself handsome " Perfect Chaos."
:D
No matter how bad some of the Sonic games may be (namely "Sonic The Hedgehog '06" and "Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric"), you just can't go wrong with anything by Crush 40, who has always done some excellent songs from the games over the years. :)
Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric is an inoffensive game for toddlers. Sonic 06' is a crime against humanity.
"Aw yeah, this is happening!" Get ready to *Open your heart* in a new *Super Sonic Adventure Style* with this *Perfect Remix from Sonic Generations*.
Aysha Wattellier hey big drip. where are you going?
This level brings back so much memories. Sadly, it was short lived.
This remix is definitely better... In sadx I mute the music and play this in the background XD
lol i think in that right now
i think it was original :(
That was the first sonic game I played and it is also my favorite sub series. (Adventure series.)
Personally i think this fits the fight with Perfect Chaos perfectly. It sounds like a more depressing and dark version, which fits the atmosphere of the fight since Chaos is a HUGE monster and fighting it seems slim to none, plus Station Square is in ruins. A perfect fit if you ask me.
never thought something could get better than the original.....then i ehard this.....omg this made this fight worth the entire game(even though the whole game was great)
The games are still great bruh, and sonic just got WAY stronger than before.
I understand, we all want a little nostalgia in our lives.
OH YEAH!! I'd never thought this Crush 40 classic could be improved. I've been proved wrong.
This ROCKS!!!
Oh yeah, the first time I played Sonic Adventure DX, getting hit with kickass rock music before the title screen...that was great.
Nostalgia for 1999? Never thought possible.
@Funkermonster That would be true if Soinc Adventure was released in America alone but Japan had it a year before us. Hence why he said 1998.
Metal sonic and bio lizard were not mythical creatures they were lab experiments gone bad.
And Chaos was a mutated Chao
+Hyper Sonic 64 Yes he is. Sega said it themselves on the Japan Sonic Website.
***** chao.hippotank.com/chao-history
Great job, Sherlock! Never would figure it out without you.
Gameplay is the main factor, Graphics and Plot are just a bonus. A nice Bonus, but when the game itself is great, your can over look the plot.
RIP Crush 40 making great sonic music since the adventure days
I don't think it's so much of a changing concept, but moreso finally being able to do what they really wanted Chaos to look like in the first place. Exactly what i thought when playing. Also a nostalgia tear fell of course. This game is so good.
This and City Escape are my 2 favorite Sonic songs
@TheSonicMaster23 He looks like what he was intended to in Generations. They couldn't make him look the way he now does back in the day due to graphical limitations of the Dreamcast. If you look at the mural at the end of the Lost World level in SA as Sonic, you see the mural depicts Chaos more like he looks in Generations than he did in the game itself.
I personally prefer his current appearance, but its all down to personal preference in the end.
this is a strange remix, but nevertheless GREAT
The vocals in chorus... Disturbing.
I actually like this remix - The way the chorus was done sounded much darker than the orginal.
I agree, I like both of them
but I do play the original version in the boss every now and then, for nostalgic reasons
Thank you truesonic for getting all this sonic music.
@sonickeyboy thumbs up 4 that 1 awsome sonic diss, keep up the good work:)
I find this to be a pretty worthy remix of such an epic song.
Yeah,this could be fun!
The song "Open Your Heart" from Sonic Adventure 1. It´s a classic.
@burnerthehedgehog i have but what i mean is, I cant really see a entire level with sonic underwater, unless you mean a boss fight in a underwater base or somthing
I remember getting up to the second boss and wondering what the hell it was. Then I heard this song kick in, and I knew, and it was awesome.
You deserve a high-five, man. They definitely are still working at it, I just don't think it'll live after 2014. Developers hate the hardware and would rather not spend a lot of time working with it, Nintendo will be too busy working with their next handheld to give the 3DS love. wow this theme song is so awesome right now i like open yur hearts
The fact that sonic can go across water now without chaos emeralds indicates how much stronger he is.
it's so awesome to hear crush 40 again
*Hears the first verse*
AAAW YEAH! NOSTALGIA BABY!!
*Hears the chorus*
FUCK IT, I QUIT >:( *ragequits*
I'm sure he goes to school and does homework, too. He just does it while running across the ocean. :)
'Something buggin ya, knucklehead?'
@Dogninja78 I agree. No matter how rip roaring, awesome, or kick ass the song is, I want to keep my heart BEATING. Ya' know, so I can keep listening.
crush 40 brings back so many memories
@swizzermon You notice how he reverts back to saying "Ancients Cities Blazin, Shadows Keep Attackin, Little Children Cryin, Confusion, Hopeless Anger" ect at the end of this version? Well he doesn't do that in the original version. It makes it sound like Sonic failed to beat Perfect Chaos and he continues to wreck havoc, while in the original it makes it seem like Sonic pulled off his finishing move and destroyed Perfect Chaos. Get it now?
@MarkoManX Yeah, that's a good description of the tone this remix has. I like it a lot. (Though I listen to the original frequently as well.)
The Time Eater could potentially travel through different dimensions. It could be the reason why Chaos looks different, and you fight the Egg Dragoon with regular Sonic. (Sonic was still the Werehog at the time of the original fight.) It would even explain why they fight differently.
How to make this battle as SADX:
1) Download Super Sonic Mod for Generations
2) Run it. Go to PerfectChaos portal thing
3) Play. The end
every time i think of this song, i think of the nazo unleashed thing with hyper shadic
Sonic music will always rock!!!! No matter WHAT!
@swizzermon You know, I don't think the song would loop back to "Ancient Cities Blazin", when those lyrics didn't even occur at the beginning of the song. "Thunder, rain, and Lightning" were at the beginning of the song, "Ancient Cities Blazin" wasn't.
I have opened my heart since Adventure came out but i have been bleeding out a lot of blood so i had to close it and open when i hear this song
I did like that they tried to make up for it by combining elements of classic zones with the modern zones.
no problem
if you wanna see the cutscene of the Deadly Six betraying Eggman in English, it's been leaked out on RUclips. it's not hard to find
@TheSonicMaster23 His Generations look was actually what he was meant to look like.
hell yeah, got it to play perfectly synchronised to the original
well, in the Deadly Six's case, Sonic was the one to blame there
Eggman had it under control with the Magic Conch Shell (that's basically a dog whistle), but Sonic had to think "That shell looks like trouble" and kick it out of his hand
@TheSonicMaster23 ur right i think the other one had more of a snake style and i liked it
