  • THE classic scene with Judith. Viki forces Karen to admit she's a prostitute and then Viki finds out what dirty Marco Dane has been up to in Llanview. Good stuff!
KAREN: Why don't you punish me? I've been waiting so long to be punished.

That's why this scene will ALWAYS be my favorite Karen scene. People love to bring up her testimony in court to keep Viki out of jail...but this scene, IMO trumps that. EXCELLENT acting between Judith Light and Erika Slezak.

Judith Light should have stayed on OLTL. This show showcased her real talents unlike the frothy sitcoms she resorted to doing after leaving. Of course, the sitcoms probably paid much more than OLTL.

One Life to Live, All My Children and General Hospital were great then and in the 1980s but now the storylines are old. GH is crap now because it's so focused on the Mob. They should at least keep OLTL on the air and cancel GH.

I'll probably stand alone on this comment...I remember that this was the era just before the arrival of the "Buchanon" cowboys....Seems that OLTL before their arrival had some very DEEP and POWERFUL storylines Lots of social issues addressed (Did the Buchanons arrive on OLTL because of a new head writer at that time? Didn't they come to Llanview riding on the coat tails of the movie "Urban Cowboy" which was big at the time?) I seem to have enjoyed OLTL the most during this pre-Buchanon era.

But when Viki ended up on trial for the "murder" of Marco Dane, Karen put her whole life on the line by testifying in order to convince the court that Viki was innocent, thus telling the world she was a prostitute and Marco was her pimp.

Deciding to leave w/ Steve was the first time I felt free of that " Judith was the original great Emmy winning actress front & center even above Erika & viki in some ways as Erika would not win her first Emmy for years but she is brilliant here w/ Karen & viki was such a bada$$ facing off w/ a pimp for a friend.

I agree with everyone who HATES the clips they play on OLTL rather than real scenes like this. The in-depth conversation is the hallmark of the Soap Opera. Other shows do not have the time to do it. That's why people love soaps -- one eavesdrops on intimate conversations and gets to know the characters intimately.

What is striking is how long - but how compelling the scenes are. Now the writers can't write something this compelling. honestly, the more i watch both scenes, the more i prefer this one to the courtroom scene. they're both fantastic of course, but there's more subtle nuances to this one from both actors that you can really pick up on. from the time karen decides to tell viki the truth to when she actually does, you can literally see the change in her eyes as she slowly dissociates from the moment. just like with the "number" line, it's only when she removes any sense of personhood from her clients and then herself that she can say what's really going on. it gives me chills. and that moment when karen says, "i've been waiting so long to be punished" just breaks my heart wide open.

That is as far as the explanation went, the history of the Wolecks was never fleshed out beyond the original three. Jenny was brought in as a distant cousin then Karen later on. That they didn't share blood was brought up when Larry and Vicki were discussing the family history.

love a nurse 55 I was born in the late 80’s, my first memory of OLTL was in nursery school and I remember the always hearing the cheery theme used from 1984-1991. But then the 1992 theme I remember all too well and loved hearing it. At that time I didn’t understand soaps so much. I just remember the teachers used to sneak and watch Loving, AMC and OLTL.
I was raised in a CBS household my mom and grandmother was into Y&R, B&B, ATWT and GL. She only watched ABC soaps which would be AMC only if Y&R or B&B wasn’t so interested which was a rare. At that time she only watched in the summer because she was a teacher at that time. She gave up on soaps when they got too stupid but also when she went back to working in the hospital as an R.D. Prime example the early 2000’s is went they went down hill.
