If I'm not mistaken that's a whitewater kayak and the blue suit he has on is a dry suit. He would have on thermal layers underneath to keep warm and the dry suit keeps the water out. Definitely would take a ton of practice to pull off those moves.

X freestyle kayaker here, first move was called a front loop (the front flip), which went into a stern stall( balancing on the back of the boat). He then went into a cartwheel, then into a bow stall (balancing on the front of the boat). I can't remember if bouncing on the front in a bow stall has a name, but he did that to get enough force to get out. 😂
I have had several kayaks for several years. Not one of them is this type of boat. I have never done anything remotely like this. Outside of one trying to sink on me the first time out and being launched out of another while trying to catch a third wave in a row before letting the water empty out the scupper holes, I have never had much trouble with stability. P.S. If the top of your SOT is filled with water, and you try to ride a wave, as the wave lifts the rear, the water may shift forward and bury the nose. If your nose is underwater, you might not be able to slide down the face of the wave.
Play boating takes some serious skill.. I know how to boat but still need to get my roll.. our rivers just took a hit with the hurricane, and winter's coming in.. I feel him!
I go watch, WATCH, at cossatot falls in April and see people coming out shivering even with their gear on. Yall are some ultra athletes for sure. Much respect.
It's actually super easy to get out of these in a hurry if you need to, you basically pull on one tab in front of you straight back towards your body and the skirt pops off and you can get out really fast.

It's actually very stable. The sharp edges (chines) give it more stability than a rounded boat.
