    Thank you for the idea with the compressed air. I needed to drain only 2 quarts from my XC 90 volvo in order to replace it with full concentration antifreeze. It looked like it would be easier to steal gold out of fort Knox than to remove 2 quarts of coolant from an XC90 volvo. - if anyone at Volvo is reading this you maybe you could design a simple access drain for just for such situation that would allow it without having to take half the car apart.

    Thanks Simon. Need to replace the fan on my XC90 soon so potentially be taking the radiator off in the process.

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  3 года назад

      If it's like other P2 platform cars, the fan and shroud may only be held on with a couple of bolts and lugs in which case it's very quick to remove without disturbing anything else.

      @@sirobb You're right there's just the two bolts at the top, just they're very awkward (possibly impossible) to get into without removing or at least dropping the radiator. The other videos (XC90 specific) on RUclips show quite a long process of removing the radiator etc. It's only the bearing that's bad but it looks like the motor is attached from the side nearest the radiator. I'll have a better idea when the replacement turns up. As always, trying to keep this car on the road for minimal cost but in good roadworthy condition hence why I love your videos so much!

      @@gavinstirling7088 Precise details vary between D5244T and D5244T4 but you should get away with from below loosening only (not removing) the two vertical bolts either side of the radiator pack to allow a little drop then there will be other minor clamps or brackets which need moving for access.
      I doubt complete radiator removal is required to change the fan but sometimes the nuclear option is better than working around something very awkward.
      Good luck with it and thank you for your support.

    I’ve got a v60 D5 with the electric dipstick. It’s got the small grey dip stick at the bottom but it won’t come off. I’ve tried spraying it with WD40 but it still won’t come off. Any ideas?

      The new coolant type that Volvo now uses is called G-64. Sold in the UK called Comma Xstream G64. The G-48 coolant was an old formula that is coloured blue. That coolant doesn't last long and must be replaced after a few years.
