If you do the research, Joey lost his Red Eyes to a rare hunter dude in the series, Yugi won it from the rare hunter and Joey wouldn't take it from Yugi without winning it fairly, he later challenged Yugi to a duel after Battle City for it back, the season after that it showed him using it, this suggests that Joey beat Yugi in a duel, they didn't show it though, it's a possibility that Yugi would have let him win though.
