That game I made which was based around the backrooms really helped launch my career, and it’s incredible to watch the whole concept evolve into a film. The trailer looks amazing, and I can’t wait to see it!

Kane's Backrooms doesn't follow the Wiki Backrooms. There are no levels, only areas. No smilers, no almond water... Just whatever appeared in Kane's Backrooms + probably something more.
Maybe not 25 years, but yeah. He's 48, aging works like this, the first 25-30 years we experience lots of change and development, think about it you go from being a baby to fully developed adult. Then you hit a kind of plateau. How long it lasts depends on you, mostly your genetics, but diet and exercise do matter. It can last anywhere from another 20-25 years, perhaps a little longer for exceptional cases, where you change much, much more slowly. Then around 50 the rate of change start to pick up again, slowly at first in 50s, accelerating through your 60s and beyond to death. So, yeah, 21 years ago he was 27, that's when he entered what's really our 'middle-age' plateau. Soon he will enter the final period of his life where the rate of change will pick up for him again.

He goes by black august and has stated he feels very inspired by how far his initial short writing went and everything that people have done with it! You can actually find an audio interview with him about it online.
How do we know it was really him and not someone LARPing as the writer? 4chan is an anonymous posting board after all, and I would think we'd have known more about where the original pic came from sooner if he had been talking about his post (they eventually found the origin of the pic after some crazy sleuthing). EDIT: I found a criminally underviewed video talking about this exact topic by Mctoran, including the intervew I believe, I guess I'll get my answers as directly as possible now. EDIT2: Omg, this is the ORIGINAL video by Mctoran with the black august interview and this guy only has 171 subscribers and the video only has 4,483 views as of the time of me writing this comment. This video and topic is CRIMINALLY underrrated. There's a 20 minute interview here and the first thing they do is address proof of authorship, and the guy basically talks about his writing style as his best argument. Goddamn, if you hadn't made this comment I probably never would have run into this, this video is so lowkey.
I love how a few times, random tiny posts have spawned huge creations of community work. Scp and backrooms are the only two that come to mind right now but I know there are loads of them, I just love how the original creator (usually?) doesn't get all precious over their original shitpost, and instead they just marvel at what came from the seed they chose to plant, and how others added to it over time

Is there an actual story to those videos? Will the movied answer what's going on? Im around the same age, but I'm only vaguely familiar with this. I think the aesthetic is interesting, and while the concept isn't entirely original (feels a little bit like Lovecraft, a little bit like House of Leaves), it's cool that this is kinda modern folklore, and I'm interested, but I just don't fully get what everyone is so invested in.

A24 taking this is the literal best shot you can get with any studio, I guarantee just like most of their movies, people will end the movie with their mouths hanging open

The song in the beginning is Six Forty Seven by Instupendo it's primarly (as I have seen) used in "Dreamcore" or "Backroom" playlists, glad to see they used it as it is one of the most fitting songs for a movie like this
Funny thing about liminal space music is that I find it incredibly relaxing. Very confusing spot to be in when a trailer is trying to creep me out but all I can think is "mmm its my sleep playlist"

@One-vid The song itself is public domain - running a scratch filter over it would have the same impact. But for the lore I would LOVE Kane to do it. He got the rights to use Six Four Seven from Instupendo so I think its likely he understood the assignment well enough to get good music.
The true original image of the Backrooms came back on June 12, 2002 in Oshkosh Wisconsin, when during a renovation of Rohner's furniture store, someone took a picture of a seemingly and completely empty room, that is used to place beds and different furniture, with flickering square lights. It is then posted on 4chan in 2019, and became a legendary urban legend that we know today.

I love that they use the start of that one song that's used in a lot of "liminal space" aesthetic tiktoks, but they never let the actual song play. It's a reminder that this place isn't an aesthetic. It's not just some series of eerie yet nostalgic rooms that you find oddly comforting. It's something else with something else (possibly) lurking inside.

@FligugiguGigi The OG backrooms (assuming you're talking about Kane Pixels' series) does indeed have at least 1-3 entities, they just aren't the main focus of the story/lore. Even the original image post implies there is SOMETHING there that may "find you". It's just whether the movie will put all the focus on "escaping the strange monsters that dwell within the maze", which by all means does not seem to be the direction they are going.

I think the aesthetic is interesting, and while the concept isn't entirely original (feels a little bit like Lovecraft, a little bit like House of Leaves), it's cool that this is kinda modern folklore, and I'm interested, but I just don't fully get what everyone is so invested in.

The true original image of the Backrooms came back on June 12, 2002 in Oshkosh Wisconsin, when during a renovation of Rohner's furniture store, someone took a picture of a seemingly and completely empty room, that is used to place beds and different furniture, with flickering square lights. It is then posted on 4chan in 2019, and became a legendary urban legend that we know today.

I love that they use the start of that one song that's used in a lot of "liminal space" aesthetic tiktoks, but they never let the actual song play. It's a reminder that this place isn't an aesthetic. It's not just some series of eerie yet nostalgic rooms that you find oddly comforting. It's something else with something else (possibly) lurking inside.

@FligugiguGigi The OG backrooms (assuming you're talking about Kane Pixels' series) does indeed have at least 1-3 entities, they just aren't the main focus of the story/lore. Even the original image post implies there is SOMETHING there that may "find you". It's just whether the movie will put all the focus on "escaping the strange monsters that dwell within the maze", which by all means does not seem to be the direction they are going.
