Yooo I was there too. Took about 8 years of idolizing Mr. G before getting to see him live at that show. Flew from Miami. Couldn’t miss it. And guess what? He’s back at the knockdown again on April 7th. We ooouut.
@@Trikr0m3 I’m reading this on my birthday, in the sky, listening on my headphones, flying NYC to London right now not having any idea he was in NYC last night….noooooo! Have fun! So jealous!!!
In 2019, I experienced him live at Montreal's iconic nightclub, Stereo. We arrived there on a whim, expecting the club's usual DJs. While queuing, we learned that the entry fee was slightly higher than normal due to a special Boiler Room set by a DJ. Initially hesitant and considering another venue, the bouncer overheard us. He shared his own experience of seeing the DJ in New York a few years prior and recommended him highly. Trusting his judgment, we bought the tickets. The set we witnessed was extraordinary, unlike anything we'd ever seen, with an unmatched energy. I remember vividly the first track : " If house is a nation, I want to be president". I cant explained to you how the club wnet berserk at the sexond track's drop. It was surprising to see the DJ dance, and we felt an intense connection with his performance. However, the atmosphere turned chaotic when some reckless individuals at the front began dancing with and touching him. I vividly recall it happening around the 20-minute mark of this exact set. The DJ warned them, but to no avail. Suddenly, he erupted, confronting them until the bouncers intervened. In a heated moment, he discarded his headphones and declared, "F**k this city, f**k this nightclub, I'm out," before storming out. The mix of confusion, excitement, and anger I felt was indescribable. We all felt robbed of this masterpiece. To be honest we couldn't It believe. We really were convinced it was some sort of prank and that he would come back. It remains one of the most thrilling yet unsettling nights of my life, marking a memorable and intense 20-minute Boiler Room experience. We went for a break downstairs and asked the bouncer the name of the DJ again. "That's Mr G". What a G.
No doubt, I am the biggest Mr. G fan to have ever walked the Earth...wanna know the secret to how fucking awesome his music is? Ride cymbals. Simple as that, keep an ear out for it...those little subtle changes just cause electric charges to shoot through your brain, also super subtle increases in the depth of the kick drum. Every track he's done have these little nuances, best example being 'G's Strings'.
This has it all. Excellent original, unreleased beats, interesting interpretive dance, buzzkill owner telling him to watch his levels, unnecessary feedback hype man on the mic, and sexy grey shirt girl dancing for almost the entire duration. Mr G fo life!
This set is so damn good it has the energy of what I think house music was in the 80’s-90’s. Just deep, tribal, and raw. Man everything now sounds so damn clean. Unnecessary snare rolls.
@@popeye4392so many OG djs didn’t like to have their stuff recorded and played out or posted bc they believed to want dancers and heads to come together to experience the experience in person and keep the art alive and the dance floor alive and Mr. G has held that true to his heart for decades
When most djs try to start with some moody stuff and wake the crowd up 20 mins later, he gives the same amount of DANCE energy from start to finish.
