I love Biscotte! Nice tutorial. Good luck with your channel. I'm editing this to add: I've been knitting for more than 50 years and I've done just about everything you can think of BUT I was not familiar with this stitch and now I want to rush out and buy the yarn to make on of these fab scarves. My local is Espace Tricot, a lovely selection of yarns but there is something about Biscotte that I absolutely love. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks, Kim☺️ Ah that’s so cool! It’s definitely a fun stitch to work up if you decide to knit it🙂 I recently learned this stitch when working up a button band on a cardigan and loved the squishy material it created. And I’ve been meaning to bike to Espace Tricot to check it out but haven’t made it there yet! Perhaps this spring 🙂
I went today and picked up three balls of Drops Air, a mix of baby alpaca and merino wool in a wonderful green. It's next on the list after a fair isle hat I am kntting as a gift and socks I want to finish because I always have socks on the go and like to get them done! @@calicoradio_knits
I was always so confused as to why other people's scarves are not rolling in on themselves even though they are stockinette stitch. This makes so much sense! Thank you for the tutorial now my scarves are not gonna end up like tubes 🙂
This is a great and informative video. I enjoy watching all the pieces come together, trying not to remember that I failed sewing class at my Catholic High School! My skirt ended up being a pillow case instead. 😂 I would highly recommend watching the "I Love Lucy" episode: " Lucy Wants New Furniture" to explain how my dress turned out back in the day. 😅 Your work is beautiful!!
ok I'm only 4 mins into the video but your method for creating a slip knot is blowing my mind 😂 I've never seen it before and your method is SO easy and SIMPLE!! omg
Yes, they are beautiful colors, it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add the foot and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger accessories during the colder months when we have to store things like gloves, beanies, scarves, etc… *amzaccs*
Hi! Just discovered your channel. :) Thanks so much for sharing this pattern! I know it’s a simple double stockinette, but I liked the idea of using the fine fuzzy yarn like alpaca yarn and possibly mohair like yarn blend which I have so much of. I have so much yarn I collected over the years but for these fuzzy alpaca and mohair kid silk I only could use it as a yarn to be held with. I never thought to knit as a double stockinette though I knew the stitch before. 😅 I have a bunch of alpaca silk yarn and airy baby alpaca merino blend. I tried my own scarf with different patterns and they come out thin. So I stopped completing after half way through. It either becomes really dressy with regular stockinette stitch with garter stitches on both ends so I think I will give this a try with these luxurious yarns I love the feel of but didn’t know what to do with! 😅😊 I was surprised though to see you created tussles by knitting them. That will be too much work for me lol 😆 So I will just attach regular tussles if I wanted the look. Will visit your ravelry site to add to my project! ❤ Thanks for the wonderful idea of using fluffy yarn! 😊
Hello! Thanks so much for your comment and checking out this video ☺️. Those fuzzy yarns sound so luxurious/soft and perfect for this scarf! I hope it turns out well and happy knitting!🙂
No problem at all! I used less than 3 balls of Concept by Katia Reiki yarn which is a bulky weight yarn 🙂. The specific weight/yardage is the following: 300 meters/325 yards (136 grams). Happy knitting!💕
Ideally, it should be an even number when working in double stockinette - perhaps you could do 12 tassels of 4 stitches each? However, if you are using a very fuzzy yarn, 3 stitches may work 🙂
So couple questions: Did you up your needle size, or did you use the suggested size? And how much smaller will it be from the scrap yarn you use? Thanks!
Hi Emily, apologies for my delayed response! I used a 6mm needle for my scarf, and the suggested needle size for this yarn is between a 5.5mm-6mm. (: The scrap yarn I used was the same weight as the yarn I used for my scarf. This doesn't have to be exact, but I'd recommend using a scrap yarn that is around the same weight as your main yarn. You can find all my notes for this project here: ravel.me/CalicoRadioKnits/fbas . Hope this helps and happy knitting!
Is this pattern going to look good also with normal yarn or do you recommend using fuzzy yarn? I’ve just started knitting and maybe using this fuzzy yarn would be more difficult for me😅
Definitely understandable! I think it would look nice with normal yarn as well - You will just be able to see the stitches more clearly with a non-fuzzy yarn 🙂
You are such an incredible knitter. Me? I shop for yarn, knit a swatch, then get bored, buy different yarn, knit another swatch, yada yada. I never get anything finished except swatches! 🤦♀️
@@calicoradio_knits update.. I finally finished a scarf! It started out as a dachshund sweater but I got stuck on knitting in the round so I ended up with a scarf. Oh well. At least I finished something. And it has three kinds of cables and a funky lace stitch. Now, to wear it before one of my doxies chews it up! 😬
Hi, I started this project, but I’ve been dropping the slip stitches and don’t know how to pick them back up. Is it just like picking up a normal knit stitch using a crochet hook? Thanks!
Yes, you’ll initially place the stitch onto your right needle as if you were going to purl it. But instead of purling it, you’ll just slip it over to the right needle without working it 🙂
I would love to do this, but I only crochet, and I have no clue which type of needle I need, my yarn which is merino wool is much thicker, perhaps 4 times thicker lol so I feel lost
Hello! In this case, I'd recommend checking out your yarn's label. Usually the yarn label will list a recommended needle size that will work well with the yarn. Also since scarf dimensions don't have to be too specific, you could also use the yarn label as a jumping off point for figuring out how many stitches you want to cast on. The label will typically tell you how many stitches to cast on in regular stockinette stitch per 10cm/4in. Hope this helps 🙂
Oh no!😔 If you’re finding it difficult to unravel because your yarn is too fuzzy, you could put it in a ziplock bag in the freezer for a few hours. This should make it easier to unravel. If you’re worried about being able to pick the stitches back up correctly, you can think of it similarly to picking up 1x1 ribbing. The stitches should like alternating knits and purls. If you’d like to try to fix the issues rather than rip back, I also found this video, which may be helpful: ruclips.net/video/MyKG4nTRwYk/видео.htmlsi=SVDYzx6y1B-fYZnw
Sorry to be that person but no intrusions or clues just visuals may you add some steps like loop over loop then bring it down make cowboy like rope then wrap around then pull the yarn into the hole between the stick and the loop cause i do no understand anything you just said
Hello, sorry to hear that! I unfortunately cannot edit the dialogue now that the video has been published, but perhaps other RUclips tutorials that explain double stockinette stitch may be helpful.

Very beautiful scarf. I am a beginner and Double stockinette takes very long😅
Yeah, double stockinette can be a labor of love a bit 😄
Thanks for the detailed video❤ before knitting this beautiful scarf, i want to know how much yarn you needed to knit

does the technique for the tassels still work if i split it into 3 instead of 4? (i casted on 48 stitches) or does it have to be an even number
Ideally, it should be an even number when working in double stockinette - perhaps you could do 12 tassels of 4 stitches each? However, if you are using a very fuzzy yarn, 3 stitches may work 🙂
Dang! I came here hoping to buy some of your socks....any of your knits up for sale?

I can definitely empathize with this! I have 3 miscellaneous swatches from abandoned projects in the bottom of project basket at the moment 😄
@calicoradio_knits I have about THIRTY swatches and zero finished projects. I'm just so slow. I get bored before I finish.😢

Hi Jade, yes you can definitely use a crochet hook to pick them up (:
@@calicoradio_knitsAwesome, thank you so much!
Can you work in the round with this scarf or not?
This scarf is worked flat because I used double stockinette stitch, but you can find similar looking patterns that are worked in the round.🙂
Is the "slip the stitch purlwise" same as a purl stitch?
Yes, you’ll initially place the stitch onto your right needle as if you were going to purl it. But instead of purling it, you’ll just slip it over to the right needle without working it 🙂
how thick is your scarf in the end?
It’s hard to say because it’s so fluffy😄 But approximately 1 cm thick 🙂
Is this the berlin scarf ??
It's beautiful
Thanks! This isn’t the Berlin scarf, but it does have a similar, classic look. 🙂
