In some games it obvious they are more than friends. In link between worlds a gossip guy will tell Link that Zelda get up a midnight to admire a painting of a past hero and princess Zelda cuddled up together. This actually happened I watched the gameplay and I have some fan art of it too
Yeah, I liked that little tweak to the plot formula. Plus it brings in the question/possibility of the blood of the Royal Family and the blood of the Hero maybe being intertwined in some way, meaning Link and Zelda in all the non-Skyward Sword games may or may not be relatives in some way.

I really wish there was a game that did have a romance between Link and Zelda, but so far only the first two have had signs of that. In some Zelda fan translated mangas I've read, there were signs of romance between in the on based on OoT, but that's it. There have been hints of romances in some of the others also. The closest we see to Link be romantically involved with someone in the mangas is LA. In that, he and Marin have clear feelings for eachother, but things keep them from being together
