I managed to record from SBC8 in 1986. Those days Mandarin and Tamil programme are sharing a TV channel.
And English and malay are sharing a TV channel too

Thank you so much for uploading this. I’ve always reminisced this one NDP when my schoolmates and I were part of the audience at the good old National Stadium - we sang our hearts out, along with Clement Chow, with tears on my faces. Seeing our founding fathers in the video, evokes so much emotions, what a privilege to have lived in their times. May our nation continue to prosper in this new tumultuous time. Majulah Singapura 🇸🇬

NDP 1986 is my favourite.
I still prefer the good old 120-men strong, 20 columns by 6 rows Guard of Honour contingents as compared to those in recent years, 16 by 6 (2015) and 18 by 4 (2016). Look at how grand and majestic the larger contingents were during the march past. It used to be my favourite part of the NDP!

why is it the uniforms in 1986 had actual pockets and belts but those today don't?
shame really!
That was the old number 1 uniform. The army and air force uniform used to have cumberbans and white belts above it for other ranks, a different set of cumberbans for officers. The current number one uniform was first introduced in 1994. Personally I was very disappointed with the change as I too felt that the old uniform looked a great due better..

This is actually one of the videos of NDP from 73-year old Mr Billy Neo. 9 years ago in 2004, he didn't manage to get the English version on Channel 5 as he had some duties to do outside home. So he managed to recored it in Malay from Suria.
This video is he recorded it in Mandarin and Tamil, NOT English. This is from SBC 8. Recently, he recorded NDP 2013 on HD5 and also have mixed it with Encore telecasts in Mandarin (from Channel 8), Malay (from Suria) and Tamil (from Tamil).

What music is used for the PM salute?
Tan Ze Pei it’s known as the General Salute, not as in the military rank, but a ‘general’ salute for someone of high honor. These days there is a specific Prime Minister salute, but the General Salute is still used for foreign dignitaries and parade Reviewing Officers.

Slightly late, but it is a commonwealth General salute now currently used by the Singapore Police Force, Canadian Air Force and commonwealth countries
