    Very cool engine. Graphics can look really awesome(not like many games in video...). Just NO work-power of big-teams doing games ;/ . Its Free / Open Source / can use any IDE / libraries(C/Java/etc ones). Engine for "coders" not "clickers" ;)

      it didn't get a serious update for a decade. this game engine is dead.

      @@mohanidzhd I think you're quite ignorant. Last update on github was released "30 May 2021" what the hell are you going on saying its been a decade.
      If you want to hate on something at least be accurate in your statements.

      @@PutsOnSneakers He said "serious update" not just update. All you confirmed is that there was a update and provided no further information. If you are going to call someone ignorant at least read the full sentence. My thing is this is not getting any traffic because game engines like Unity and Unreal support more platforms and are standards in game development. Along with the differences with Java and C#/C++.

    I know jme isn't a sexy engine, but it's an amazing one that can do anything you need it to. It can absolutely hit the same graphics you see in AAA engines, but the lack of simple to use scene builders limits the appeal for artists to show off. Don't be fooled by Java, the limited overhead and full control of the code basically garuntee this will run faster out of the box than Unity or Unreal!

      Artist now are replaced by softwares just like makehuman and other stuff by that no excuses for programmers to do better games just like artists

    from minute 08:11 the game Spoxel March, would you say it's a 2D game or a 3D game? I would classify it as a 2D game but it also has some 3D based elements

    It's a shame that the games made in this engine look so bad compared to any others, java just can't compete in 3d game dev.

      The looks have nothing to do with the language and surprisingly little to do with the engine either. Bad assets will look bad in CryEngine, Unreal, whatevergine...

      As has been stated, Java has 0 to do with the graphics. JME lacks a fully developed scene composer like you find in Unity or Unreal. This means it's hard for artists to find an entry point. This is the biggest weakness of the engine. Java is NOT slow and the lack of overhead found in Unity and Unreal means similar code is almost garunteed to be faster in jme.

      @@Radroosterdad before I started jme , I was thinking like you , but after looking at the core code , JmonkeyEngine is basically built like a framework just like the Android SDK , dart/Flutter SDK , you basically can it take it on any IDE & use jme converter for assets , basically it's based on LWJGL which is pretty based on c/cpp & JNi with Khronos Group frameworks , so it's really amazing to have something portable , nowadays jme can be used aside with native android & java , in Raspiberries & even on low end PCs , so yes it's the assets which declare if the game is good or not , yes you can build anything using jme , even an engine on top of it.
