The fact that the security person would tell you, a tripod is a fire hazard is, on its face, a dodge. A tripod is no different that a stand-alone walking cane, supported by 3 legs, thus being a tripod. At that point, Persons that use a can for mobile are too, a fire hazard. So, grab a stand alone walking cane, and clamp your phone to it.
