I’m a graphic designer and I love the clean look of Hickmans graphics but that circular graph he does is played out for sure. I don’t think it being as busy as the art would be better but I def hear ya. Hickman needs to do something different. Great looking book tho overall. Great review!
Hickmans Pax Romona confused the hell outa me too at first. I am never sure I like Hickmans stories until It comes together and I figure it out lol then Im 😮 this is amazing.
Agreed with everything you said about Hickman's exposition and graphic design. What initially felt like a cool novelty, quickly became tiresome. It really feels like he is limited by very basic graphic design skills that he learned many years ago and just hasnt bothered to evolve. He also doesn't allow the reader to get into a groove while reading his stories. It's kinda analogous to something like Nier in the video game space. Just as you settle down thinking you are playing third person hack and slash game, you are promptly forced to play a side scroller platforming section, a top down shoot em up or read an entire prose passage. This is fine conceptually as a diversity flex, but it doesnt translate well into an audience feeling any sort of traction and connection with the experience. They are being forced to engage in multiple ways and thats often uncomfortable. Imagine sitting down to eat with the full expectation that you can relax and enjoy your meal, but after every three mouthfuls you need to drink and then do a workout before coming back to continue eating.

I am glad other people find it played out. Like... not everything is organized like the Tree of Life from the Kabballah, bruh. Haha.
Dude... this is exemplary. Your review, I mean. You have only review of this book so far. Glad I found the channel. A+, brother. Subscribed
Thanks, Stevie! Glad to be of service with the reviews and stoked to have you on board.
Fantastic Review! The art was so special. I've never had a reading experience like this. I was so confused at first when reading.
Hickman's work always confuses me at first. But, reading it in collections does help me follow the threads better.

Man! I wish I lived in the US to have access to this without exhorbitant shipping fees, because it looks really amazing. I'll get it one day.
Agh, that sucks. Maybe a translated version? I saw Huddleston talking about translations on Instagram.
