- Day 2 of our 1200 mile trip to Ruidoso New Mexico, we learn how quickly the wild fires around Ruidoso have grown overnight. With evacuation orders being issued for the community, the Model A Ford Club of America has no choice but to cancel the National Convention. We decide to continue our Model A Adventure modifying our destinations and head towards Southwestern Colorado. We explore Hoover Dam and a long section of Route 66 north of Kingman, Arizona. Our hearts go out to all the residents of the Ruidoso community and pray for the first responders safety.
Driving across the dam had been stopped after the bridge was completed. Glad to see that your Model A was able to go across the dam. TWICE
You can drive over to the Arizona side, but can’t continue on beyond the top of the Arizona ridge top. They force you to return to the Nevada side to leave. Don’t understand the logic of this as it causes twice as much traffic on the damn. Haven’t been able to find out why this is.
Very well put together video's! Scenery coupled with the history while traveling in a Ford model A,gets no better I'd say. Thanks for sharing these videos, truly is a treat for so many of us in the audience.
Hello Bob. Thank you for your compliment and viewership. Greatly appreciate your taking the time to comment.
You hard work shows! I subscribed and am looking forward to good travel adventures with great visuals.
Thank you for the nice compliment. Appreciate your viewership and for subscribing. Thank you so much.
Great photography!
Thank you
It's great that you are making the best of the situation and continuing the trip. Great videography by the way!
Thank you so much Jeff.
Thanks for coming along for the ride with us. Appreciate it very much.
Hoover Dam construction dates are 1931 through 1936, Model A’s were being used and here we are with a Model A on vacation. Great trip and planning adjustments.
Thanks KYBossls
I thought the same thing about the year coincidence.
Thanks for watching.
Wherever you 2 go in the A will be a great trip
Thank for watching Bill, appreciate it.
I love traveling with you two. Kingman Arizona figured in the beginning and end of the movie "The best years of our lives". Nobody currently remembers the vast graveyards of warbirds that were stored there. You traveled over hallowed ground today my friends.
Hello Robert,
Yes I am aware of the warbird history in Kingman. Such a shame they chopped up so many of them.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Excellent…Thank u
Thank you
Yes !!! , great photography , Your Mrs. Is a great Lady to go along with you on all these adventures ( good with the camera too 😃) I come down US 93 and drive across the dam in 1982, 178” WBase Farmall and a 45’ Great Dane trailer. Was very careful to stay in my lane 😃👍
No doubt the old road was a nail biter for large vehicles. The new I-11 bridge certainly makes sense for the 21st century, but removed all the fun of the drive.
Thanks for watching, and I’ll pass your compliments on to the Mrs. Appreciate your comment.
Making a fun trip out of changed plans.👌 Nice!
The only time I’ve been there was when the bridge was still under construction. We were stuck in traffic on the dam at 117 degrees.
I think they built the bridge walls high, specifically because of my fear of heights. Lol
Now I have to go back!👍
It’s up in the air for sure, only bridge in the US that’s higher is at Royal Gorge CO
In the 70's when we were fighting for a Raise we went out late one night and put up Burma Shave Signs, thanks for reminding me of the name 😂
More Burma Shave signs to follow.
Thanks for watching Gary
Oops, I passed over the Day 1 remark on the blog you put out before. And saw that you had this blog. Is Burma Shave still a product? It's obvious someone is keeping up those old signs. Those ones look a lot newer than 60-80 years old.
We saw several Burma Shave series (more to follow in videos). Someone must be keeping them up all along Route 66.
Thanks for watching. Working on day 3’s video now.🤪
Watching your Adventure while waiting for the BIG DEBATE to start, sorry to read about your conversation but looks like you made a Great trip out of it.
Did you have any breakdowns?
DEBATE about to start, can't miss this 😮😂.
Hey Gary, We had to replace the battery in Vegas (wasn't really that old), and we had a issue with one of the rear brake shoes in Durango that I had to deal with, but we weren't delayed more than an about 90 minutes
