    Thanks for the comparison.
    Well, to my somewhat novice ears sounds like the flatwounds have a wider, clearer tonal range, whereas the nylons have a narrow, nasally tonal range.
    Each good for different things.

    Finally a gear review where the player doesnt just spam root and fifth with a pick

    Brilliant - thanks! Are the tapewounds more 'comfortable' under your fingers than conventional flatwounds?

      i'm not the one you asked, but it absolutely does in my experience. even smoother than flats

    Considering the diameter (gauge) of tape-wounds, did you have to file the nut cavities? Great video by the way. Love the sound of Tapes.

      Each guitar could be different, but there wasn't enough difference to cause an issue on my bass. I did get a very slight amount of fret buzz due to the extra size, but I raised the string up slightly at the bridge and sorted it. They're so smooth and easy to fret even though the gauges are slightly larger than my original strings.

      These were the light set, so went on the bass fine without adjustment at the nut.

    What's up with that shot of the headstock of your guitar sitting in the case? lol Love your walking, swing feel. The funk needs a lil work though.

    Great! The tapewounds are the "secret" behind many archtop acoustic electric basses, including marcustico and rob allen. I put labella tapewound on my ibanez srh500f and voila, there was the sound folks are paying thousands to get! Where the rubber meets the road. On my 65 Precision I prefer the Labella med ga steel flats and bridge mute to get that Monk Montgomery sound.

      How long do these strings last would you say? Do they last as long as flatwounds?

      La Bella all day!

  • @Leo9ine
    @Leo9ine Год назад +2

    La Bella! 100%, smoothest string I've ever felt, but not "slimy" like Elixirs. Just buttery. Never noticed a huge difference in guitar strings, I use whatever on guitar, but man there is a huge difference on bass. Way more girth to feel. DR string coatings flake apart too (don't take it from me, google it). Seriously, it sounds dumb, but going from cheap round steels to the black flats made me like bass enough to focus on it as my primary instrument. Used to think bass was supposed to hurt your fingers til I tried flats!

    Great demo, but how's the tension on the tapewounds.

    • @AdamR
      @AdamR  3 года назад +8

      They definitely have a lower tension, the lowest I've tried. They are very easy to play and you can still dig in and get attack out of these strings. Depends what kind of tension/tone you are after.

    Muy bueno el walking en el fast swing, me gusta más con las flat. ¿Tienes algo grabado con el fretless?

    Can I ask what kind of hard shell case you are using for your Squier VM Fretless Jazz?
    I like it, looks ABS molded, similar to the case for my tenor sax. I'm in the market for a case for my very first bass!

      I agree. They’re really hard to hear in a live band mix but are solid in a production mix. YMMV
