I think I can safely say that we all love Wilfred.
He's the best 🥰
He’s one of the very few things the fandom seems to agree on, he is SO loved
So say we all!
@@kitwestlake2088 Probably the *only* thing.
Wilf Is one of the most cherished characters in the whole of doctor who.
And he's played by one of most cherished actors in Britian.
He was the nations granddad....
I’ve always said it’s a crime he was never knighted.
He is EVERYONE'S granddad 🥰🥰 Isn't he just marvellous!
@@julesreacts Bernard Cribbins from what I have heard was just like Wilf, he was a lovely man and he played a really lovely man. Rest in piece Bernard, you enriched the lives of many children as the Narrator for the Wombles and the lives of so many others as the lovely wonderful Wilfred Mott.
@@Alucia0I'm trying to remember what book series they always got him in for on Jackanory. I think he did the Arabella and Mortimer stories (with Quentin Bllake picture!) but I'm sure there was another. Plus he was part of the two week Hobbit special.
The first appearance of a Sontaran in Doctor Who was the same episode as the first appearance of Sarah-Jane Smith. (The premiere to Season 11 in December of 1973)
So fun little detail a lot of people miss but in Partners in Crime the Taxi that comes to pick up Stacey and talks to Donna has a atmos sticker in the window foreshadowing to this episode
I didn't notice it, but I was wondering if I'd seen them before!
After you watch this whole season it is a good one to rewatch. Lots of Easter eggs. Kind of like how “bad wolf” was sprinkled throughout the first season.
There's so many amazing little details like that this season.
I love the subversion of the "highly explosive cars" trope. It's a twin with the moment in School Reunion where Micky stops a doomsday countdown by just unplugging the computers.
"In the 70s, or was it the 80s" is a sly nod to a thing called the "Unit dating controversy" - because the Unit stories of Pertwee were broadcast during the 70s, but were meant to be taking place some unspecified time in the future. And when we got to the 80s in the classic series we had a story featuring the Brigadier in 1983 (the current year when that story was broadcast), where he had retired and had been working at a school since before 1977, the year of the silver jubilee. Creating a contradiction about when those Pertwee stories were supposed to have happened.
Well, y'know... wibbly wobbly and all that.
Funny that you should bring that up. I just finished watching that sequence of episodes.
That is very interesting I didn’t know about this before.
Interesting thing about the Sontarans; in one episode of classic who they sucessfully invaded Gallifrey, they didn't hold it long but it's still an achievement.
Fun fact: The actor who played the first Sontaran, Kevin Lindsay, was an Australian. The word “Sontaran” was intended to have a “short a” in the middle, but in rehersals Kevin pronounced it as an Aussie would, with a “long a” and it’s been like that ever since.
Woah, cool!! Sontaaaran is definitely how I would pronounce it, too!
Oh I didn't know that!
That scene where Donna is walking up her street and sees Wilf always makes me so emotional. Something so simple, and yet can pack so many emotions. One of my favourite scenes from the show, honestly.
The addition of the awesome Bernard Cribbins to New Who was a stroke of genius.
And Bernard was no stranger to Doctor Who, as he appeared in the 1966 movie Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150AD, as a companion to Peter Cushing's version of Doctor Who.
A rather decent and more serious Dalek story
Donna is exactly what the Doctor needs, a friend who is not in love with him or in awe of him.
That's why I loved Donna and the Doctor together so much! Just mates!
8:15 That kid in the Family of Blood episode said that the Doctor was like fire and ice (I forget his name). When he was telling John Smith how amazing the Doctor is.
If you didn’t see it it’s a wee secret but the partners and crime episode when the taxi turns up at Donna the taxi has a atmos sticker on the car.
I didn't see it, but I love that they thought of that!
If you look out for it in many of the episodes set in Martha's time, you'll see it in other episodes too
There's even some Torchwood crossover in the world-building/Whoniverse 🙊
Wilf - Donna's grandfather, or as you termed him 'that nice old man' - was played by Bernard Cribbins, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 97. British viewers of Doctor Who might have been familiar with him at the time for - among many, many, other things - being the narrator of the children's show The Wombles between 1973 and 1975 (and repeated until the 90s), an extremely frequent narrator of Jackanory - basically a show where celebrities would read children's stories - between 1966 and 1991 (I believe he had the most appearances of any reader on that show, at 114), his 1962 single single Right Said Fred, and - of course - his role as one of the four leads in Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. as Tom Campbell, one of Dr. Who's (who in the two 1960s film adaptations of the show was an eccentric human inventor) companions. The result of his career is that many people across many generations had a great affection for him due to him being on a lot of programs with a child audience (among other shows, but him being a frequent face and voice on children's television between the 60s and the 90s, and then in 2008 playing the companion's grandfather on Doctor Who, pretty much solidified him a cross generational place in the hearts of the British psyche. If you were a child between 1960 and 2010 - Maybe less so in the early 00s - you grew up with this man either on screen directly, or hearing his voice in the narrating role in some incredibly gentle programming (...And Doctor Who in 2008 which isn't quite as gentle).
The Sontorans are a classic Who design, based around a simple concept, essentially designed around a visual gag - "What if the alien's head was the same shape and approximate size as their helmet"
But they used to be a lot bigger!
I was born in 1999 and still watched the wombles a lot having at least 3 vhs tapes I wanna also say it was still being shown on TV in the early 00s too but they did bring in that reboot of it so maybe not
@@BrendamProductions Oh he was a legend, very good on Jackanory too.
The house that’s used for rattigans academy is a place called Margam park. I had my covid jab in a building at the bottom of the stairs the doctor runs down on leaving the building
Oh wow, now that is worth the pain of the jab! Very cool!
Poor Martha! She went through so much during her time with the Doctor, walked the Earth for a year, then she gets a cushy new job with UNIT, calls the Doctor back into her life and before you know it she's been taken prisoner by Sontarans, put to sleep and replaced with an evil clone... who even steals her clothes! Talk about rotten luck 😂
To be fair, Martha is smart enough to understand what a job with UNIT might involve...
The way Donna says “She’s engaged you prawn” always makes me cackle
Donna is SO FUNNY! I adore her!!
I love this two parter, it could easily be a finale episode, present day earth, massive stakes, old villain. Really great
It's the Cribbins Appreciation Society round here. And rightly so, not just for Doctor Who, but for being an absolute dude in everything he did. It was fun to see the Sontarans back, and amazing to see Martha taking charge. She is one of my all-time favourite companions, and that includes the classic series too.
The Sontarans are the latest recurring villain to be reintroduced and I've always like them even though they're at best a very distant 3rd behind the Daleks and Cybermen in the hierarchy of Who villain races. This is also the first major UNIT story of the revival (even if they've already popped up a little before this) which is also great. As the Doctor mentioned, he worked for them a long time ago and in fact the 'UNIT era' is probably the most like the revival in how present day (or near enough) earth was a regular setting with a few regular supporting characters whose potential 'companion' status is much-debated. It's an era that splits opinions but while I can see why not everyone would be a fan, I've always loved it, and in fact the Doctor at the time was my favourite until a future revival Doctor came along.
9:05
The fact that Donna got both of you is what makes this reaction hilarious. 😂
I was SO NOT ready to say goodbye!
Dan Starkey was a fresh graduate from drama school when he was cast as Commander Skorr.
I'm assuming he later went on to play Strax? Looks and sounds very similar.
@@memoryfoam2285 Yes
Really ? He’s great
@@memoryfoam2285Well they ARE clones
He is also a Doctor Who fan - he recognised Speelfox in the script.
We all love Wilf!! And, his actor, Bernard Cribbins, is an absolute legend!!!
The actor Bernard Cribbins who plays Wilfred Mott in this story has been a part of the Doctor Who universe since the mid 1960's. When classic Doctor Who started, it was so popular that two cinema movies were made. They both featured Peter Cushing in the lead role as Dr. Who, a human inventor, not a time lord. The first movie was called Dr. Who and the Daleks and came out in 1965. The second one came out the following year and was titled Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. This is the one that Bernard Cribbins appeared in, playing a police man who gets taken on an adventure in Doctor's TARDIS. Hopefully someday you'll get to see these movies, as they're so much fun.
Peter cushion isnt part of DW Universe
Donna and Granddad Wilfred are the best friends/companions of the Doctor. No crushes (Rose & Martha), no immature jealousy (Rose), no mistreatment of boyfriends (Rose)... just best mates for the Doctor.
Today on Doctor Who's long list of otherwise mundane things to be afraid of, we have... Satellite Navigation!
Always good to see Martha again! Plus the organisation she's joined, the UNified Intelligence Taskforce, or U.N.I.T. you've already seen them once or twice in the show so far, most notably in the two-parter with the Slitheen in Series 1, but as you were told about in this episode, the 3rd and 4th Doctors worked closely with U.N.I.T., so it's nice to see a bit more focus on another of The Doctor's old allies!
We also have an old enemy, though, in the Sontarans! They showed up a few times in the same era of the show that U.N.I.T. did, and these episodes do a good job of introducing this race of clone warriors to modern audiences, myself included!
Lastly, we get to see Wilf again, who is of course always the MVP! He's just the best!
This story (broadcast in 2008) introduced the Sontarans to New Who; they previously appeared in 1973 (3rd Doctor), 1975 and 1978 (4th Doctor), and 1985 (6th and 2nd Doctors!). They will be seen again later…
The first Sontaran story, “The Time Warrior” in 1973, is quite fun to watch, although Old Who is relatively primitive compared with New Who. It was also Sarah Jane Smith’s first story.
Love how Donna is the first of the new companions to learn to fly the Tardis (dunno if some of old who companions learned so I am not sure if Donna is the first one).
Also hi Martha!
Doctor: No fighting
XD I love that, he's most likely remembering how Rose and Sarah Jane Smith reacted to each other at first.
Her Grandad is the only one who knows kinda.
Wilfred is absolutely sweet and nice, we all love him.
I love your childlike glee and giggles while watching the episodes for the first time!
And no, ATMOS hadn’t been mentioned before. It’s an everyday item, like the catalytic converter in our cars. No one speaks about them.
Thank you 😸💜
It's always fun to see the evil version of companions or doctors. But Martha was a nice surprise in the episode back in the day and for classic fans the return of the Sontaran was a blast.
We don't hear of ATMOS before this episode but we have seen the ATMOS stickers on cars in earlier episodes, so it's not like it's completely out of left field
Omg, I love Martha's character so much!💔So happy she is back-ish🙂Thanks so much Juliette🥰
Awww Tex! One thing I love about Martha is that she is so smart. The companions on Doctor Who are all SO good! I love how they are all different but each complement the Doctor perfectly 💜
Me too. Forever Martha.
when the doctor says he worked for them "Back in the 80s. or was it the 70s?" this is actually a joke referencing a well-known problem with the old show. the classic series was inconsistent about when the stories featuring UNIT were actually set, with some characters saying it was the 80s (a decade in the future from when they were written), only for later stories to imply they took place in the same year that the episodes themselves aired.
Once upon a time a couple seasons ago, you asked about folk's favorite recuring enemies. At that time I commented that you hadn't met mine yet. Now you have.
Oh nice!! They are very interesting indeed!
Hahaha OMG We became Kin the moment you said you "were so excited that you made a coffee" I have never related to a sentence more in my life XD Nothing better then sitting down to watch something you enjoy while drinking the best beverage in the world! Some save heaven is lived in the after like but if have me a good coffee in my hands, rugged up and watching Doctor Who then i beg to differ XD
He did indeed work for unit in the 70s for 4 seasons plus occasional pop backs through the 80s....
Bernard Cribbins also had a hit song in 1962, "Right Said Fred." Produced by George Martin (before he was attached with the Beatles), it reached #10 in the UK singles chart.
I don't know the song, but I know the band of the same name hehe
I remember the tune of the song but I’ve forgotten most of the words. I was 8 in 1962.
@@julesreactsThe band took their name from the song, which is a comedy classic. Double A side with Hole in the Ground.
"Oh, that's not a very good nickname. What if you do get defeated? Staal the Not Quite So Undefeated Anymore But Never Mind?"
That always makes me laugh. 🤣🤣
The mobile phone operator O2 released a SatNav mobile phone which they called Atmos, which may or may not have been influenced by this episode. O2 have never confirmed or denied
I love the start of the theme of how the Doctor fundamentally changes the people he travels with. It's great to bring back a classic villain and I quite enjoy the introduction of Ross a great little character who has brilliant chemistry with the Doctor. Though I would be lying if I said that the fact he's very attractive to me didn't influence my opinion of him. Fun fact it is not mentioned at all but in the first episode of this season we do see the ATMOS logo on the taxi that came to pick up the woman Dona was talking to.
Ross is definitely attractive - glad it's not just me!
@@767wattsy No one ever brings it up. It's weird
One of my favorite things about this season is the relationship between Donna and the Doctor. And the way she took to Martha as well, is something that was a little unexpected! And Wilfred! Recall that he was the one that told the Doctor why the streets were empty in the episode with the Titanic! I do think it is a little funny that all three of them (Donna and fam) knew the Doctor already! And where Wilfred sees adventure and exciting but dangerous things (take care of my daughter!), Donna's mom sees what Martha's mom saw. Nothing but trouble! Looking forward to part 2! In the meantime, have a great day too!
Oooh I agree! Donna is just everyone's best friend! Always ready with a smile and a kind word - unless you get in her bad books haha!
It's the weekend now! Yay! Have a great one, and stay safe 💜
@@julesreacts You too! Stay safe!
So, here we have a very special treat: The return of a modern companion (Martha), a classic enemy (Sontarans) and a classic ally (U.N.I.T.).
The Sontarans usually rank third, behind the Daleks and Cybermen, in terms of enemy alien races. They actually debuted in the same story as Sarah Jane, but the Doctor already knew them because their eternal war with the Rutan Host is known throughout the universe.
The Doctor's line about working for U.N.I.T. in the '70s, "or was it the '80s?" is a meta-reference to something called 'The U.N.I.T. Dating Controversy'. Basically, the Third Doctor was exiled to Earth by the Time Lords and it was during this time that the Doctor became U.N.I.T's scientific advisor. However, there's conflicting evidence as to whether this era was set in the contemporary 1970s or the 'near future' 1980s.
I can't remember whether it's in this episode or the next, but reference is made to "Sir Alastair" being stuck in Peru. This is a reference to Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, who was the leader of U.N.I.T throughout classic Who, and a good friend of the Doctor's. Sadly, his actor passed away in 2011, before he could appear in New Who, but he did appear in The Sarah Jane Adventures.
I've read that Freema Agyeman was initially contracted for two sessons, but her contract was cut short, which is why she was brought back for some episodes here. I have no idea whether that's true, but in any case it's great to see Martha back. The 'girlfriend meets the ex' gag is priceless and I think it's only the second time (after Rose and Sarah Jane) that two companions from different eras have met.
Finally, I'm really glad that you're growing fond of Wilf, he's so beloved by the fandom and we were all heartbroken when he passed away in 2022. He was the fandom's grandfather.
I can't wait for part two!
Hey Ashley!! I hope you enjoyed your day off for Anzac Day yesterday 😸💜
This was an awesome episode, and it was so great to have Martha AND Donna with the Doctor! I think with anyone else, it would have been a little awkward, but Donna is just so brilliant and made Martha instantly feel at ease!
Have an awesome weekend, we're almost there 😊
A Doctor Who episode always benefits from an appearance by Wilfred Mott. One of the best characters in all of DW :)
“He’s like fire and ice and rage. He’s like the night and the storm in the heart of the sun. He’s ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time and can see the turn of the universe. And… he’s wonderful.” - Tim Latimer, The Family of Blood
Martha did definitely learn from the best.
Sontar-Ha!

I think Helen Raynor really likes that gag. =:o}

These enemies are one of The Doctor enemies from the classic series and I always love it when The Doctor and Donna grandad meet again and meet each other for real this time.
That cliffhanger at the end alway make me laugh. I kept saying you don’t need a cliffhanger here, just smash the windows for crying out loud. lol
See you next week for part 2.
The sad stuff makes you cry, the angry stuff makes you cry, the happy stuff makes you cry.
Doctor Who is now a crying show 😭
Wilf:"The thing is, Doctor, that Donna is my only grantchild. You've got to promise me you're gonna take care of her."
The Doctor: "She takes care of me."
Wilf: "Oh yes, that's my Donna."
Ohh man... so many feelings ❤❤
You know we want to see it, Juliette. You've got to do it!
Performance on cam of the Sontaran war chant/dance😛
OMG no way 🤣🤣
Ah the Sontarans.. Everyones favorite short baked potato men!
"In this day and age of AI it's more scary"
Actually that scene may have been a reference to an amusing incident from the early days of Satnav's where a news article highlighted someone's Satnav telling them to drive across a river (and a number of people blindly obeying).
The Doctor and Wilf meeting again was endearing. Unlike you, though, I remembered right away when they first met. Possibly because I recognized Wilf (Donna's granddad) immediately from the episode Partners in Crime.
And once again, you had a pretty good idea what was going to happen. You suspected ATMOS almost immediately.
Thank you, Ron! I will either get the story right away, or be utterly confused. There's not a lot of middle ground for me 🤣
It's great to see this show making you happy and it gets better still. Everyone loves Wilf, you must have seen the actor who plays him before, Bernard Cribbins, a national treausre here in Pomland; ex-paratrooper and star of 'Carry On' films, 'Jackanory', 'The Wombles' and 'The Railway Children' amongst many many others. He was from my neck of the woods and died in 2022 at the age of 93, and worked all that time. He even played the Doctor's companion in the second Doctor Who movie in 1966. Your cat was very gracious to appear at the beginning of your reaction, I presume the empty cat den at the end was due to hunger pangs after seeing the Sontarans; knowing that their mother never can resist giving them the tuna filling from her baked potato... Spudulike?
Wilfred reminds me so much of my dad, he always has. Wilfred is, by far, my favorite character in the entire series. I miss him. 😢
8:15 You may have been thinking of Timothy at the end of Human Nature / The Family of Blood. "He's like fire and ice and rage. He's like the night, and the storm in the heart of the sun. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time, and he can see the turn of the universe" ...... or from the first revival episode, that his constant companion is Death.
The thing with the Sontarans, is that almost every time the turn up in Who they are not acting like what we are told are typical Sontarans. Normally we seem them conducting experiments or whatever, rarely do we actually see them just acting as straight up warriors.
Yeah, that's the quote! He's like fire and ice and rage.... STUNNING line.
"Donna's seeing her future".... You have no idea how accurate that comment was lol
I completely agree with you. Series 4 is definitely my favorite of 10's. Donna is great, and who doesn't love Wilf.
Ah the Sontarans… one of my favourites. Who can hate an army of sentient potatoes with Napoleon complexes?
So a slight deviation from the episode, I’m sure some have already mentioned it, but if you can track it down, you might want to check out the adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing with David Tennant and Catherine Tate for your own entertainment purposes; I don’t expect a reaction, but I wouldn’t complain mind you. They’re just so good as Benedict and Beatrice and I already loved Shakespeare and that one in particular is up there on my list because of my own personal history with the plays and my personal life, but they just took it up to a higher level.
Sentient potatoes 🤣 I've never met a potato I didn't want to eat UNTIL NOW.
This is still one of my favorite two-parters in this era of Who and I'm glad you've finally arrived ^^
"But I love that she's just like; I'm bringing you back! He doesn't really get a say in it. Or whatever he is doing, just drop it."
Well... To be fair, it's not like he literally couldn't just do that and pop back right in whenever he wanted, as if he'd have a time machine. ;3
Honestly, although I think it's a maybe tad bit too soon for it (since she LITERALLY just left, like, three episodes and one Christmas special ago) I am still glad they brought Martha back for an encore as she got a rather poor treatment on her own season imo. Once she finally started to grow and get more of character than just "I wish Doc would love me..." -is also the moment she leaves.
And now she's back, gotten over her "break-up" and also puts Doc to his place a couple of times while at it.
Godspeed Martha Jones, Godspeed! O7
She always had more of a character than that, though; her feelings for the Doctor were only ever one part of her character.
Hi Jules 🙋♂ Donna is awesome and I agree ... the two companions meeting was brilliant. I also really love Wilfred's character ... such a great, kooky old man but also such a kind soul. The Sontarans are also a cool alien species. Another great reaction under your belt. Can't wait for the conclusion. I always miss you until the next one drops. Enjoy your weekend.
Hey Steve! Thank you so much 😸💜 I hope you have an awesome weekend, we're almost there!!
I love these episodes! It must have taken a lot of prosthetics to get a mask that's a double-wide head.
Jules,💜
A pretty great episode, for many reasons. One - Donna, being Donna, all through the episode. The surprise guest, meet the family surprises (for Donna), a new/old enemy, and a pertinent story which slots in nicely with, as you note, our A.I. times.🥰
I loved the fact that you wholeheartedly joined the Doctor, in being an "outer-space dunce "- getting pulled into Donna's "not coming" statement. So excellent - I confess, she pulled me in also, when I first heard it.😜
"Donna, Donna Noble... I'll have a salute!" She is so abrasive, and so hilarious.
It is funny. She acts just as up front as her mother - you like Donna, but don't care for her mom. They are almost the same person, except Donna is better, and quicker at it.
Yes, Wilfred has his own superpower, he can always, at the drop of a hat, make one reach for the tissues. He is one of my top unforgettable side characters in the Doctor Who stories.
Best early on bit - "... so excited that I actually made myself a coffee. So here's to me. My cup has cats... all over it..." (I made myself a cup as well - no cats on my cup, alas!🥲), you have an actual Cat in your room, and you do a little "catty" giggle and dance in the chair, anticipating the meeting of companions too - My god! It's A Room Full of Cats!😂
The one thing, at the end of this episode, which always strikes me is, as Wilfred is choking to death, the Doctor is in the distance staring down the street, at the poisonous air - a trait - ignoring the one, whilst considering the overall. Seeing the forest, ignoring the tree. A distant, and disassociated Doctor.
Have a great day, Jules.🤗💜 I confess you had me fooled here too. I thought you might be skipping the day, when the notification didn't pop, as usual. Anyway - have a Fantastic day! Enjoy yourself, and the evening. Thank you!😊
Tom 😸💜
Donna's lines in this episode (in fact, EVERY episode) are just golden. I don't care who or what our next companions are. Donna wins the trophy! I just adore her. As long as I don't grow too sarcastic under her influence, I think I'm set for life with this pairing!
I love that you love Wilfred so much, too! I do not know WHY he affects me in the way he does, but I know we are not alone with our feelings for him. He brings out this side to me, I think, that yearns for comfort, for family, to be a little girl again and be loved by a grandparent. Donna is truly lucky to have someone like Wilf.
I do confess that I forgot to schedule this episode yesterday 🤣 So I woke up, blearily remembered it was Thursday, and spent a few minutes poking at my phone, trying to remember what to do 😂
It's a holiday here today, no shops are open, I've got no dinner, I have some new red discolouration thing under my eye, but I've enjoyed a morning off and now going to settle in for some editing. Thank you, Tom, for brightening my day 💜🥰
That's right! Anzac Day... Happy editing, but don't work too long. I'm happy you've at least had the morning off. Sorry about the dinner. You need a quick, anytime cheap meal! I'll see what I can come up with!💜
Been looking forward to this one. Always loved the Sontarans, and this was honestly a fantastic return for them.
They were very interesting for sure!
I love the ‘70s or was it the 80s’ thing, a nice reference to UNIT being in the classic series but there were some wibbly wobbly problems with the dates, a key character called the brigadier seemed to have retired before he started haha.
ATMOS hasn’t been discussed before, but Stacey’s taxi in Partners in Crime had a sticker on the window saying it had been installed
Another classic who monsters return but they where tiny bit taller not by much in the classics
A great two parter. Love Wilf. Donna and Martha get on so well! You’re right, the Doctor will know Martha !
it's always interesting when past and present companions meet, sadly it's the easiest way for the Doctor's enemies to get one over on him, copy a companion, of coarse, it's also the fastest way to find yourself on his bad side..... can't wait to see your reaction to the rest of the season!
Fantastic reaction as always 😊.
When the Doctor mentions to Martha and Donna that he use to work for UNIT back in the 70's or was it the 80's was a callback to the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) when he worked for UNIT as scientific advisor and helped them whenever an alien invasion was going on and the timelines of UNIT were always never made clear whether it'se set in the 70's or the 80's even though the Pertwee episodes were made in the early 70's.
The sontarans are another iconic alien antoginsts from Classic Who like the Daleks, the Cybermen and The Master they first appeared in 1973 they are a cloned non-binary race hungry for war.
I don't know if anyone else has commented on this already but the actor who plays Donna's grandpa Wilfred Mott Bernard Cribbins was no stranger to the Dr. Who universe as he was previously in one of the two Dr. Who Peter Cushing movies (which was non-canon to the series) back in the 1960's as a different character called "Dalek Invasion Earth 2150 AD".
I had mixed feelings about Martha returning for 3 reasons because it overshadows Donna's time as a companion, Martha was an almost completely different character and was starting to act like a soldier and I thought Martha had such a good farewell I didn't want to see it undone.
I love how different Donna is from Rose and Martha. Bunch of weird stuff going on, where does she go? Personnel. Genius.
SAME! I love her!
Sontaran's . Very fun Classic villain.
Two Parter.
That is a very brief synopsis. I hope you enjoyed the episode?
@@julesreacts I much enjoy the Sontarans. Sort of a 60's shot at the ludicrousness of the military mindset. Used teir one weak point at the back of their head. They get used a lot by this doctor for comic effect.
Sonta-HA!
Sontar-Ha!
That's one of many reasons why i love Donna. Instant friends.
She's honestly the best!
It's Wednesday here and it's Doctor Who day again with the

Agreed. A-I is scary, especially being that eggheads these days seem to have skipped lessons on the Asimov Protocol.

There's actually an energy corporation here in Texas called Atmos 😂
No way 🤣🤣
Sontar-ha! 🙂
RUclips offered translation on this comment 😂😂
I don't know. If I had as many enemies as the Doctor, I'd start to wonder whether it was a "me" problem. ;)
My theory is, that's how he went from being the 5th Doctor to the 7th (via a period of internal turmoil mixed with brazen denial which is the 6th Doctor). And I've got the 35-year-old fanfics to prove it! =;o}
BAHAHAHA
@@julesreacts :)
@@therealpbristow That sounds awesome.
@@HuntingViolets [BLUSH] Thankyou. Keeping spoilers to a minimum, the idea is that what Tegan says just before her departure makes him realise he's a become a serious magnet for trouble, and that too often all he and his friends manage to do is survive it, rather than make things better; He starts wrestling with the idea that maybe he should be less casual about where he goes, and who he hangs out with... And sometimes maybe try to get ahead of the oncoming trouble, rather than wait for the bad guys to come to him. But he *hates* the idea of becoming that kind of person, and resists it for one whole incarnation.
0:11 Whoooah! Steady on there! ^.~

Finally! I was eager to see Jules reaction to Martha's return!
I never watched classic "Doctor Who", but I like how modern "Doctor Who" seamlessly slowly re-introduced classic characters - Daleks, Cybermen, Sara Jane Smith, K-9, Macra, The Master, UNIT and now Sontarans.
This and next episode are the prime examples why reactors probably should film one reaction for a two-part story. How we supposed to wait another week to see Jules reaction to the conclusion of the story?
P. S. Predicting car goes crazy in the beginning was great, but later in this reaction Jules said something that's a accidental prediction to an event from 60th anniversary episode, 9+ seasons of "Doctor Who" ahead of her (can't say what exactly, because spoilers). That's like totally nuts
Ahh I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! Thank you 😸💜
In case no one said it, we do see Atmos stickers on cars in previous episodes and previous season.

So, this is actually kind of a deep joke for Classic fans referencing the UNIT dating controversy. The basic summary is that the majority of UNIT focused stories in the Classic era were supposed to take place in the 1980s but there are several writing slip ups with events relating to UNIT instead being explicitly stated to be in the 70s instead. Probably the most famous example is a character stating he left UNIT three years before it even existed.
So there’s been a LOT of fan attempts to fit it and make it somehow work, pretty much always ending in failure as this is a square peg that won’t fit in the continuity circle.
So the Doctor’s line about not knowing whether he worked for UNIT in the 70s or 80s is a reflection of the fact that the mixup over dates means no one has any idea when these episodes are supposed to have happened, and everyone has been shrugging their shoulders about it ever since.
Sherlockians spend a lot of time trying to fit the stories into a chronology too. They started to be told out of order at a certain point and Doyle never expected anyone to be rereading them years later, so there are a lot of issues.
Bit of a drop in quality mid season but literally jumps back very quickly and its not a big drop - season 4 is DEFFO THE BEST! :)
I'll have a solute.
santara HA!
Great reaction as always 😊
Thank you 😊💜
Probly The Doctor's Best Hair Gel episode...=)

I'm sure at the end of the 4th series, you'll believe this was David Tennant's best series.
Sontarans are clones. They fighting an endless war with the rutons. They another returning classic who villiain

So fun Classic Who fact: the Sontarans once attempted to invade Gallifrey. They were also pissy about being excluded from the Time War.
And yes Evil Martha is fun. So glad to see her back
Series 4 really is the most solid of New Who
