@Anand Patel the chemical is locally produced by burning a plant, the ash of which has high concentration of Potash. The Ash is mixed with water and then dried is known as Ashqar. Ashqar is boiled with lime (CaOH) which creates Potassium Hydroxide, a strong Alkaline. The plant used is known by different names in English, one name is Saltwort ( Scientific name Seidlitzia rosmarinus). Saltwort grows naturally in Salt steppes South of Kandahar City.
@Anand Patel Ji: I described the traditional method of preparing Abjosh Raisins, in my comment above. Some Afghan Abjosh Producers have modernized there process. They use Lye (NaOH) boiling Alkaline solution for preparing this type of golden raisins. There are some videos which show the empty containers of Lye, but the video does not say much about it. Obviously using Lye will require experimentation to determine the proper pH for the Alkaline solution. Traditional method has been learned through generations of experience.
