Great video!! Very interesting and I never knew that they had to be calibrated. Makes sense I guess I just never realized. Hope it cools down for you! Happy pickings!!
Thanks LPG!! Yeah that’s the deal with going to places like Lowes or Walmart to get keys copied; their machines aren’t calibrated properly and so the heights can be out of whack. That’s why you see bevelled pins and chamfering in cheaper locks, so those “off” keys can still work in the locks.
Thanks Leon! 😃👍 I’ve had it for a while now, and I’ve even cleaned it once before lol! This is just getting everything in the shop fixed up bit by bit!
Thanks 😃👍 they actually still make this model. I bought it for $80, normally sells for around $400 used/$800 new 🙀 I need to replace the cutting wheel on it, but otherwise it’s great!
Very nice duplicator. To help you get more accurate calibration with fewer blanks most duplicator manuals suggest the following rough procedure: 1: select two identical blanks (use calipers to measure the blank for maximum accuracy) 2: put one blank in each jaw 3: with the power off, rotate the cutting wheel by hand 4: adjust the tracer depth until the tips of the cutting wheel just scratch the blank in the cutting jaw 5: tighten all retaining screws and get to work For checking spacing and space adjustment, you can find the manufacturer's instruction manual here: www.ilco.us/products/key-machines/traditional-edge-cut/805340-804582/045-hd.html
I will do this tomorrow! 😃👍 thank you my friend! This is a great machine for sure; got it for a steal at $80 about a year ago. I do need a new cutting wheel since this one has a broken tooth. Still looking for someone who wants me to “store” a Blitz for them 🤣🤣
Nice video LPP .It looks like you have the calibration down.Kwikset does have some wide cuts and can be picky sometimes. ,when you cut them on a code machine you have to make sure to widen the cuts.I use my Foley-Belsaw 200 that i got when i took their course to cut Kwikset on and it does an excellent job.
I’d love to get a real code machine when I grow up 😜 cutting by space and depth keys can be a pain. The only good thing (in my book) about Smartkey is that if it’s set with a good key, you can tell if it’s a good copy.
Brian Edmisten I’ve watched it a couple times 😂 I just haven’t pulled the trigger on buying the parts yet. And yeah, I keep looking and praying... but it’s like I told Bill Bacardi; they didn’t name the Blitz the 1200 for nothing 🙀
@@LockPickingPatrolman Lol. Well that could have something to do with it. I should have know it couldn't be something that was corrected with a simple adjustment at no cost. Oh no, has to cost money doesn't it....
Nice machine. I have the 025. Its a lot easier and more accurate if you calibrate it by turning the wheel by hand and just kiss touch the key blank. You have to take the cover of and put a wrench on the brush wheel to turn it. It's not that easy to turn. That's how I calibrate mine. It holds the calibration very well unlike the Foley Belsaw I have.
Thanks Bobby! Yeah I learned that trick to calibrate after this video 😂 it holds calibration pretty well actually. I need a new cutting wheel on it though 🙀
The easiest way to check if it is truly out of adjustment is to flip the key gauge down with two blanks loaded. If there’s any space between the gauge and either blank, then loosen the jaws for the one that’s off and slide the blank over until it’s stopped on the gauge.

we adjust ours every other day!
Nice bit of kit, very interesting thanks for the video 👍👍👍👍
Thanks! 😃👍
Very cool Tim my friend nice bit of kit🇬🇧😎😊👍

Helpful and entertaining video. Thank you
Nice rig! I have the Foley Belsaw, and the motor on your ILCO puts the bellsaw to shame, lol
Really nice key maker, older one but great

Great job buddy.
Thanks my friend! 😃👍
looks good. I have an older HPC I need to adjust/calibrate for a customer tomorrow.
I need a new cutting wheel for this one. Hopefully in a couple weeks!
A very nice machine indeed. Buy a new wheel then adjust if it's needed. Have a good one my friend.

@@LockPickingPatrolman Check out Jason's video about making the KW key checker.Code machines are real expensive.

@@bestrafer38 And this is actually one of the more expensive manual machines. They're around $900 new.
I don't think your block is square. That's why the cut looks choppy. Hope you get some cooler weather soon.
I would put more money on the cutter wheel :/ it’s missing a tooth 🙀 but it still cuts through ok for copies

you gona end up growing a whole bunch of keys after dumping all that brass seed on the lawn lol
Well you know, I wanted to get it planted before the end of the season 😂
Love your videos by the way, keep up the good work, sláinte from Ireland
What kind of cutting wheel do you recommend using on this machine?

I think my machine is off left right. how do I calibrate side to side? not just the depth?
