Watch some clips of Cameron Monoghan as Jerome Valeska in the Gotham TV series. I wouldn't say he's better than Ledger or Hamill (That would be blasphemy) but he's easily as good as. He was the closest thing we've gotten to the original Joker in the comics. He brings to live action the same character Mark Hamill embodies when he gets behind the microphone. Ledger and Phoenix were both fantastic, but it's important to note that they were re-inventions of the character, where as Monoghan is as close to the original source material that we've ever seen in live action, just how Hamill is in the animations. As I said, he's not better than Ledger, but he's as good as.
The Joker is the perfect number 1 villain. I would put Ra’s Al Ghul number 2. He knows Batman’s identity, grandfather of Damien Wayne, centuries old, has avoid getting arrested and leader of the league of shadows.
That's the best part about Nolan's interpretation of Bane. Sure it was super grounded and maybe not as comic accurate as people would like but it reminded the mainstream audience that Bane is a master strategist and very intelligent, will always be thankful for Hardy's Bane

It would be cool if this Batman franchise finally gives us Batman vs Deathstroke since that was supposed to be Ben Afflecks the Batman so would be cool if Matt Reeves gave us some sort of payoff for that. I personally like the Joker and Batman relationship because it has shown us how a clown/king pin/criminal mastermind can outsmart the worlds greatest detective. Not only that, the worlds greatest detective considers his identity as Batman instead of Bruce Wayne (in some adaptations) because of what he does. What even makes me like the joker more than any other Batman villain is that he is able to outsmart ALL of the Justice League members. A great example is tricking Superman into killing his unborn child and wife due to a drug, destroying Metropolis in the process. This shows just how far the joker can go for a fun time and to surprise Batman at any given moment
He wants to prove to Batman that he is already insane. Or from his perspective, he and Batman are the only two "sane" people in an insane world. The Batman never gives in, which leads to their never ending cat and mouse game.
Heath Ledger, Mark Hamill and Joaquin Phoenix are the best actors to ever portray the Joker. They all brought out the Jokers psychopathy and crazy laugh

I love the fact that Mr Freeze, Scarecrow, Mad Hatter and Calendar Man were first made as Joke villains but nowadays they’re one of his most dangerous, insane, tragic and scary villains. Dangerous and tragic for Mr Freeze Insane and scary for Mad Hatter, Calendar Man(Thanks to the Long Halloween two parter)and Scarecrow. Also Deathstroke is more of a Nightwing villain then a Batman villain.
Mr. Freeze, Mad Hatter, and Calendar Man were indeed first made as more or less joke villains, but Scarecrow was created as a serious and threatening villain right from the very beginning.
Mr freeze was a Joke and a Lame villain Back then in the 60s However he was rebooted in the 90s Thanks to the Animated Series That made him a tragic character as we know today
It was a no brainer that Joker was going to be number one on this list, but I also really love Scarecrow as he's truly one of the most remorseless villains who always gets under people's skin

Nolan shouldn’t have whitewashed Bane and cast Hardy to begin with. Bane’s Hispanic. Secondly, whatever that hilariously absurd voice Hardy chose to give him just shows how terrible Hardy is at voices and accents.
“Gotham” was an unfairly treated series except for those of us who enjoyed all those villain origin stories. As philosophers like the late Joseph Campbell wrote (no direct quotes here) every great story has both a hero and an anti-hero (adversary) and a great journey that transforms them both.

Joker obviously #1 but #2 should be Mr Freeze. His reason d’etre is tragic. The only problem is with his methods being to freeze things, how do you implement that into a film without it turning into the lampoon farce of Batman & Robin
Bane has been my favorite Batman villain for years! His childhood backstory, incredible strength & intelligence, and the fact he broke the bat made him one of the most formidable foes I have ever seen in movies and comic books!
Fun Fact: Victor Zasz (a Nr 11) is the villain whom Batman admitted of hating the most, even more than the Joker himself. And here is the reason why: Joker got his mind messed up by chemicals. Zasz was rich with loving family, like Bruce, and perfectly sane, but when he lost everything, he just decided to murder people as a new hobby for a sick and twisted pleasure. For Batman Zasz represents the worst kind of evil - pure, unadulterated and completely remorseless.
1: Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow (Scared Inmates) 2: Arthur Fleck/Joker (Killed Jason Todd) 3: Bane (Broke Batman’s Back) 4: Ra’s Al Ghul (Leads the League of Shadows) 5: Slade Wilson/Deathstroke (Went to Oliver Queen’s house) 6: Edward Nigma/Riddler (Blew Up and Flooded Gotham) 7: Waylon Jones/Killer Croc (Tried To Drown Batman) 8: Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Stole Stuff) 9: Harvey Dent/Two Face (Held Gun To Gordon Family) 10: Oswold Cobblepot/Penguin (Stole Children) 11: Dr. Hugo Strange (Became Batman) 12: Mr. Freeze ( 13: Harleen Quinzel (In Love With Joker) 14: Joe Chill (Murdered Bruce’s Parents) 15: Court of Owls (Took Over Gotham) 16: Clayface (Disquised Himself) 17: Mad Hatter (Obsessed With A Lady) 18: Poison Ivy (Poisoned Robin) 19: Deadshot (A Hit Man) 20: Victor Zsasz (Killed God Only Knows How Many) HM: Black Mask, Calander Man, Man Bat, Professor Pyg, Ventriloquist and Scarface, Hush
The big 5 core villains are Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Riddler, & Two-Face. Next in line are Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Harley Quinn, Bane, Mad Hatter, Ra's al Ghul, Clayface, & Killer Croc. Additional top villains include Man-Bat, Talia al Ghul, Firefly, Black Mask, Deathstroke, Ventriloquist & Scarface, Deadshot, Talon, Hush, Punchline, and Mr. Zsasz.
How come Gotham's version of Penguin and Riddler were actually really good. Also, we need another live action movie with Scarecrow as the main bad guy.
I think Hugo Strange is often undersold in terms of how dangerous he can be, both to the public in general and Batman specifically. The fact that he is a bit more covert in comparison to most of Batman's Rogue's Gallery makes him a threat that is often not recognized until it is far too late. B.D. Wong gave a stellar performance of Strange in "Gotham." Wouldn't Dr. Hugo Strange versus Dr. Stephen Strange make for an interesting DC/Marvel crossover?
Honorable Mentions: *Man-Bat -Once a scientist named Dr. Kirk Langstrom, he injected himself with a serum from the secretions of bats to try to cure his own deafness. It works... but not in the way he had hoped. He becomes a human/bat hybrid monster known as Man-Bat. As far as I know, Man-Bat has yet to appear in live-action, though he does appear in Batman: The Animated Series, The Lego Batman Games, and Batman: Arkham Knight. *Killer Moth -I only know of him via his appearances in the Lego Batman video games. *Firefly -There are two versions of Firefly, but I'm going with the one more focused on fire. After a fire left Garfield Lynns with severe burns, he becomes the pyromaniac supervillain, Firefly. I know him from Batman: Arkham Origins and Arkham Knight. *The Ventrilloquest and Scarface -It has been debated who was controlling who? Arnold Wesker, or the dummy? They've appeared in various media and while Wesker was absent for the Arkham games, Scarface still makes appearances.

One of the things that makes Joker the number is the fact that he isn't trying to kill batman , he wants to make batman as insane as him
He wants to prove to Batman that he is already insane. Or from his perspective, he and Batman are the only two "sane" people in an insane world. The Batman never gives in, which leads to their never ending cat and mouse game.
Bane "took part in experiments known as Venom". and Tom Hardy played Both!
Rip Heath Ledger, his Joker was way too good

I love Jack Nicholson Joker also
Heath Ledger, Mark Hamill and Joaquin Phoenix are the best actors to ever portray the Joker. They all brought out the Jokers psychopathy and crazy laugh
John DiMaggio and Cameron Monaghan are really good too
Jack Nicholson also deserves some credit.
@@BraydenOverHeaven Cameron Monaghan was very cringe as joker
Leto’s Joker > Joaquin’s Great Value version. Lol Great actor though and got the Academy for it. Just not a good interpretation of the comic character. Ledger, Hamill, Nicholson, Leto and Romero top 5.

Mad Hatter has to be one of the most underrated Batman villains. I remember the Hatter from the Arkham games was incredible
Indeed in knight and city mostly

Yeah! He was one of my favorite villians from Batman TAS and he only got two episodes! TWO!
the arkham series absolutely perfected every batman villain (except bane in city and asylum)

Definitely Joker is no. 1 but Penguin will always be my personal favorite. There's something about a classy, umbrella-wielding mob boss that makes me yell "That's awesome "
Hugo Strange, Calandar Man, Shiva, Mad Hatter and Deacon Blackfire can make an impression in a grounded and gritty Batman movie.
i really hope they go with Mad Hatter. Or at least a combination of a few that includes Mad Hatter.
The Joker played by Heath Lager..

There’s a doctor strange in DC and Marvel, a death stroke in DC and a Deadpool in Marvel, a Cat woman in DC and a Black cat in Marvel, a Darkside in DC and a Thanos in Marvel, a Wonder Woman in Dc and a Captain Marvel in Marvel. Marvel doesn't have a version of Clayface. In fact what many people don't know that there are four different Clayfaces. One of them being female. The most dangerous one in comics was Basil Karlo. He was the first Clayface

Dangerous and tragic for Mr Freeze
Insane and scary for Mad Hatter, Calendar Man(Thanks to the Long Halloween two parter)and Scarecrow.
Also Deathstroke is more of a Nightwing villain then a Batman villain.
Mr. Freeze, Mad Hatter, and Calendar Man were indeed first made as more or less joke villains, but Scarecrow was created as a serious and threatening villain right from the very beginning.
@@topgig Huh never knew that, I guess I should read more DC comics.
Same with Polka-Dot Man. He was a complete Joke until James Gunn turned him into the tragic antihero we see in The Suicide Squad (2021 obv.)
Mr freeze was a Joke and a Lame villain Back then in the 60s However he was rebooted in the 90s Thanks to the Animated Series That made him a tragic character as we know today
The Joker is easily the greatest villain of any comic brand. Definitely superior to everything else DC has to offer.

Penguin is more complicated than that. There're a lot of more canonical versions then ones of Gotham's and Batman returns (even though they're fabulous too). He deserves better then 9th place!

Nolan said Tom Hardy as Bane deserves more recognition. He's right
Nolan shouldn’t have whitewashed Bane and cast Hardy to begin with. Bane’s Hispanic. Secondly, whatever that hilariously absurd voice Hardy chose to give him just shows how terrible Hardy is at voices and accents.

I think Hugo Strange is often undersold in terms of how dangerous he can be, both to the public in general and Batman specifically. The fact that he is a bit more covert in comparison to most of Batman's Rogue's Gallery makes him a threat that is often not recognized until it is far too late. B.D. Wong gave a stellar performance of Strange in "Gotham."
Wouldn't Dr. Hugo Strange versus Dr. Stephen Strange make for an interesting DC/Marvel crossover?
Honorable Mentions:
*Man-Bat
-Once a scientist named Dr.
*Killer Moth
-I only know of him via his appearances in the Lego Batman video games.
*Firefly
-There are two versions of Firefly, but I'm going with the one more focused on fire. After a fire left Garfield Lynns with severe burns, he becomes the pyromaniac supervillain, Firefly. I know him from Batman: Arkham Origins and Arkham Knight.
*The Ventrilloquest and Scarface
-It has been debated who was controlling who? Arnold Wesker, or the dummy? They've appeared in various media and while Wesker was absent for the Arkham games, Scarface still makes appearances.
I was surprised that Man Bat or Ventriloquist didn't get a mention on the list.
