The Sims Medieval for Windows and Macintosh computers.
EXTRA NOTE: One thing I wasn't sure if I should mention in the review was the way the game "endings" happen - if you don't want spoilers, don't read this. After your kingdom ambition is completed and your kingdom is practically fully-upgraded with lots of high-level heroes, you are forced to start over with a new kingdom to continue playing. While you can choose one of your successful heroes to take over as the new monarch in an extra (and optional) quest, I really wish you could have continued with your original kingdom. You can either play the old one in "free mode" or you must make a new one and possibly do many of the same quests over again, re-building and re-creating everything again with every new kingdom ambition. Not exactly a "flaw", but while I think I understand why they did this, it's a questionable design decision and not exactly ideal to me.
EXTRA EXTRA NOTE: Many of the complaints I had about the game have been fixed as of patch 1.3 on April 30th.
Notes:
New Feature: Free Play Ambition - Set up your perfect kingdom without worrying about long term goals. In this special ambition, you can play quests when you wish, or control up to four heroes at once in a more open free play mode.
New Feature: Child Succession - If a Hero Sim dies, but already has children, you can choose to have one of the children grow up and take over their parent's job!
Camera improvements - Have you ever wanted to get a better view of the action? The camera now allows tighter zooming and full 360 rotation in buildings.
End Game Improvements - Similar to the Free Play Ambition, can now play quests, earn XP, and build buildings even after your ambition is completed!
Hero Leveling Improvements - Can now gain XP beyond level 10 for all heroes, giving additional benefits.
Brave New World Quest Improvements -- When you complete the quest "Brave New World" and start a new ambition with that character, he or she will now retain several abilities from their previous profession!
Kingdom Aspect Improvements - Can now gain additional benefits when increasing aspects beyond their maximum capacity
And many more! This is why these things are listed are problems I had with the game in the video... at the time this video was made, shortly after launch, these were very real problems. They have now been fixed and are no longer problems. - Развлечения
EA is stupid dropping this game it had so much potential.
EA dropped this, Urbz Sims, and a good TS4 lol

Honestly I think The Sims 4 is pretty good. The lack of an open world is a massive downside but through patches and DLC it's not nearly as lacking as it was in the content department and the major optimization, graphical improvements, and the greatly improved CAS/Build Mode make up for it.
Sims 4 is garbage* EA is literally making so many pointless packs that they could easily put all together... Like, in all the packs from Sims 3 had covered multiple things. The only pack, which wasn't even an expansion, that got the most backlash was Katy Perry's... Besides, they don't have create a style and couldn't match the darn swatches
Abigail Foote The worst pack in Sims 3 is still better than anything Sims 4 has put out.
I’ll actually stay in Katy Perry’s house of pain over Sims 4 any day.
@@thisismyname5657 There is no create-style and no color wheels in build and buy mode and create-a-sim in The Sims 4, except for cats and dogs for some reason. The improvements with objects placing, dragging rooms and body parts and resizing don't make up for the lack of customisation.
Lord, I would pay SO much money for a sandbox version of the Sims: Medieval. Like, a full on, proper version that had the style of Medieval, but where you have the same amount of freedom as in the Sims 3.
Sadly, that won't ever happen. But I would be more than willing to pay full price for it; which for EA games, is rare for me. I like their games, but I fucking DESPISE them as a business; enough that it makes me not want to buy their games.
+LordofFullmetal You can play Dwarf Fortress if you don't mind the graphics.
YoSeriousLee
Yeah, Dragon Valley's alright as far as downloadable neighbourhoods go. But I agree; it's nowhere near close enough.
ZorotheGallade
Huh; might have to check that out.
+LordofFullmetal It has a very steep learning curve, but once you can get the ball rolling it's basically...Warcraft meets The Sims and Rogue, and all three of them get smashed at a pub.
ZorotheGallade
Whoa, sounds cool. Thanks Xx
Years later, I'm still wondering why they don't do time period roleplay sims games with MORE freedom than this. Modding communities always have entire catalogs of medieval and Victorian era stuff, (but all they can normally do is aesthetically change objects) I don't think I'm the only one that wants this.
SourBitters simply not the style of the sims series there's other games like that
Yeah like assassin's creed but sandbox
You are not the only one! Even if they added a true eras system to the game where there was no risk of a townie running through in modern clothes on their cellphone, it would be cool.
I really appreciated this game. I wish they did more with the concept. =(
me to..
can i ask you a question? because i will be given back this game because my cousin get it from me and if i end all misions can i do a free room? or somthing?"
Zdziwiony Quaz huh??
ok.. i tell you more easier
can i play free room like sims 4 or 3 or 2 or 1 you know normal if i end all missions?
I believe so
Carl johnson no you complete your campaign and start another. You can take a day off and then do only one part of the quest though. You can kinda free roam as long as you don't completely ignore your quest for a week
It's an amazing game. Too bad EA has completely dropped this game and doesn't update it anymore.
They don't give a shit about the sims 3 anymore either, the last update on it was back in 2014 and was pretty much only on the latest expansion. Thanks EA, for creating games and completely ignore them when you find out its not your cash cow anymore.
I mean, it's pretty old now....there's a lot of content for Sims 4. You can't expect a game company to keep every game they've made up to date forever....
CodeRed Ofcourse, but this game doesn't support windows 8 or higher. And that's a problem that's been going on for years now (even before the sims 4 came out). You'd expect a company to fix such a big issue
Old games die off, it's how it works. They don't have to update all their games to work with the latest OS. There's a new Sims now, so that's what they focus on
CodeRed That is true but like I said before, this was already a problem BEFORE the sims 4 was even fully announced
This was actually a very good side game for the Sims. I actually find myself playing this much more than the Sims 4 right now. Some of my major concerns is sometimes it's impossible to do your daily tasks as ingredients aren't available and there are a lot of bugs that have not been patched yet. Sometimes leaving you to restart a mission from scratch.
I actually really like this game. although the gameplay is not the same as the sims 3, I sometimes find the quest system refreshing when I get bored of the sims 3. I also like the look of it. Total medieval world!
How do get over having to start a kingdom fresh every time you start a new ambition and having to do the same quests and unlock the same things over again? Are there completely new quests for every ambition or is it really all the same, just with different end goals? That's my main reason for being unsure whether to buy it or not.
You can't really but I find the fun is in creating new characters and stories and putting characters from tv shows and movies into it. And also you can choose different choices each time and different quests are opened sooner based on which roles you open first.
Same ❤️
@@taariyadavis4977 the sims 3 potential travelling to the past
They made Into The Future. This could have been a nice expansion pack for Back into the Past lol
I wish they continued releasing expansions beyond Pirates and Nobles.
mollsGreen Me too!
Mandy Kluijtmans me too
mollsGreen Same.
+mollsGreen same. all we can do is mod the shit out of it
+mollsGreen The bummer is it seems like this never got much traction. No one wanted to play a Sims-style RPG game. Or at least not many people. I had fun with it, but it needed more gameplay modes and expansions. Unfortunately the game's lack of popularity basically defeated those possibilities. Kind of like what happened to Spore.
I will say this about the game. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something about the way the sims are animated here seems much more appealing to me than it does in any of the main games. Or maybe it's that the animations are the same but the aesthetics are different...I dunno.
Truth is the aesthetics of the sims themselves have always quietly bothered me. They just moved too jankily for my liking; too cartoonish. Granted they move cartoonily here too, but something about it here just works in my eyes. I dunno.
+GreatFox42 I thought I was the only one who thought the same thing!
+GreatFox42 He did SAY in the first few minutes that they look more realistic in this game. But yeah, the Sims are MEANT to be cartoonish. It's just the aesthetic the creators have chosen to use. If you don't like it that's perfectly fine; but there's really nothing you can do, unless you wanna go ahead and make an overhaul mod. The Sims is not meant to be a realistic game; it's designed to be cartoonish and silly in every single aspect. it makes sense the sims themselves look that way. if you want a more realistic game, you really should be looking elsewhere.
It's like they have more warmth to them. As Clint mentioned, it's kind of something in the skin. They don't quite have the same sort of squishy pudding-face look as in The Sims 3 despite using similar engine elements. (I call TS3 sims pudding-faced because that's kind of how I perceive them, but I am legally blind, so that might not be the best descriptor. Still, their faces, even if they're thin, just always look kind of squishy to me.)
@@MagicalAuroraDream Yeah they looked like they were made out of clay. In Medieval they have more texture, and you can set things like the opacity of age details which I reaaaally appreciate; let my sims have wrinkles without looking 100 years old EA!! It's either that or a baby face right now :(
Universe Artist Glad my assessment was pretty much on point! I actually tend to like aspects of TS4's graphics, even if I prefer much of TS3's and even TS2's gameplay.
This game has so much potential! Too bad the company dropped this project. And the music is amazing!

+Mutt Lutt It's really refreshing considering that you can change what uou do and things like that and I like it alot. I had it but sadly I moved and the disk was lost. But I loved playing it! I kind of prefer it over Sims 3 at certain points of time.

why won't EA make a Sims 3 Narnia or Lord of the rings type game?
what about Sims 3 star Trek?
I feel like they could do a lot with the Sims.
Sims Star Trek would be great, imagine creating your own ship and crew and go from lieutenant to captain, plus all the uniform that you can customize, and the races
For clarification, since he refers to the Kingdom goal and the quests as Quests.
When you start a new game, you pick a Kingdom goal, based on the goals you've unlocked. (the initial goal is more of a tutorial and merely requires you to build all possible buildings in a kingdom to Win).
There is no free-play mode initially, and anytime you're actually using Sims you will be on a quest. These quests have clear goals and a time-limit (though usually pretty generous), and determine which classes you can play as. (some quests allow multiple heroes to be used, or change how to reach the goal depending on the hero chosen) and cost quest points of which you only have a limited amount. The initial Kingdom has a simple goal and is basically impossible to fail, so you don't have to worry about what quests you choose to play. Completing quests gives the chosen character/s an amount of xp/gold based on your performance, as well as modifying your Kingdom in various ways, and adds Kingdom points for unlocking new buildings.
Fulfilling the goal unlocks free-play mode for that Kingdom, which allows you to pick 1-4 heroes to manage with no particular goal to work towards, aside their personal daily duties.
Once you've completed the initial Kingdom goal, you'll have unlocked other goals for new Kingdoms, which have more specific requirements and require you to choose your quests more carefully to ensure that you don't run out of quest points before achieving the goal.
If you want the more free-form sandbox experience, this game REALLY isn't for you. But if your the type who needs goals to work towards but aren't good at making your own, this may be a good purchase.

I'm not a massive gamer so I don't know a lot about gaming companies but I always wondered why EA didn't make a sim's style/open world Harry Potter game seeing as they already made HP games. I mean I know there a mods for sims but its not the same as having an interactive universe solely designed for HP with game-play geared specifically for spells/flying etc. and this game just makes me think of that aesthetic. I mean projects like Pottermore show theres a clear desire for such an experience from fans.
There's so many possibilities too like you could create you're own students to be sorted into houses or adults you can sign up for jobs as aurors/teachers/qudditch players/dragon trainers etc. They could have expansion packs like 'magical beasts' instead of pets for dragons etc or extra places/schools mentioned in the books like Durmstrang. They could have both open world and/or goal orientated play by going to classes or signing up for quidditch/duel club etc. And with the new spin-off movie series coming out thats even more possibility for expansions. Maybe you could choose whether your kid is muggle born/half-blood/pure blood and whether you're 'sim' becomes a dark/light wizard or not.
I mean I realise that the HP games that exist are semi-open world in that you can explore the school but you're always Harry or one of the main trio and you have to follow the games story. I also see that a lot of people have mixed feelings about EA - especially with a mostly negative response to sims 4- and I guess you could say that if EA attempted a completely open-world HP game they could mess it up and focus more on the money-grab aspect of expansion packs over quality. It just strikes me as odd they never even thought about it, or maybe they did but it just never happened due to the latter.
It would be pretty hard to make tbh and make it fun, the current sims formula would not fit the magic style of HP
Yeah I agree I thought it was odd out they never made Harry Potter expansion since they made harry potter games.
It could work very well as long as it's contained in Hogwarts, I think. You'd have things to do, people to interact with and probably things like quests or events that you could (or not, I guess) participate in. The rest of what you proposed probably wouldn't really work with the current Sims formula, though, since it's too expensive and would probably require changing maps too often.
See, i think it'd be better if you didn't have a physical hogwarts in the game. I think it'd be cool if they brought out some expansion where you could send your sims to hogwarts kind of like how children go to school and they'd learn to cast spells to make life easier or do quests in the sims world, maybe have other sims react in good or bad ways depending on how they believe in magic or something so it could be risky to go around casting spells in public in front of muggles
Me too where you go there as kids and don't return until your a young adult :'D it would've been so freaking cool!
I discovered this game years later and nearly sobbed, it's like one of my all time favorite games haha. I wish EA would make another, more modern version of this with more creativity, because this was such an ambitious, amazing idea. It's SO GOOD and could be SO MUCH MORE
Good old times.. RIP Sims.
why rip
Tatsumaki Tornado
because Sims 4 is nothing good comparing to its former.
oh
KoolBoi3000 really? but you can still play Sims 3 right? so no rip?
Sure. But the franchise is dead to me after the miserable Sims 4, Maxis was shut down and EA confirmed no Sims 5.
I bought the game thinking it was an expansion and was disappointed until I played it. If you like sims and RPGs it's super fun. :)
Sims Medieval is my favorite Sims game, specifically because of the narrative structure - the way you had specific questlines and stories to complete made it feel a lot more... I hesitate to say Focused... than Sims 3. While I enjoyed Sims 3 and 4, I often get burned out playing them, because they get very repetitive after awhile, doing the same chores, jobs, school, etc. often off-screen - in Sims Medieval each "Quest" was it's own story, and involved a variety of events and characters to interact with.
It was also coincidentally the first Sims game I ever played, although I owned Sims 3 at the time, I could not run Sims 3 on my PC.
Honestly, even in its flawed nature, I really like this game. The jobs are interesting, I love the light hearted little stories, it’s stable, interesting setting... it’s just a shame it’s so samey. You cannot play it unfortunately because the bounds of the game will tie you down at some point. But it’s nice to complete and then take a break from and come back!
i was hella hyped when this game came out and hella disappointed and how limited the gameplay actually was
I hope your not still saying hella

i loved this game! LOVED. past tense. because i payed $60 to digitally download it through EAs website. in the fine print of the installation details, i was paying for 3 installs. 3. in 1 year, i upgraded to windows 7, my motherboard broke, then my harddrive broke. 3 strikes im out....of 60 dollars...and a game. fuck. you. EA.
Have you tried contacting EA? The same thing happened to me with the Sims3 and the expansion packs. Had some download limit, but after 45 minutes of dealing with their crappy customer service, the extended my downloads.

FutureJarhead16 yes :,(
Wait what? I've installed games from EA tons of times over even on different machines and they never stopped working. Is that something new?
did anyone notice age of empires music playing very quietly?
Indeed I did.
Was about to post the same thing...
It seems this is his thing. I've just found this channel and in another video same thing happened. :D
Yes :D
yaaaaaaas!!!!
I love this game, I wish EA Games would have stuck with it longer. They could've done so much more with it if they hadn't given up on it so quickly. 😩
I personally loved the Sims Medieval; but maybe that's just me. I'm not sure why so many people seemed to hate it.
Love it too :-)
I don't like how focused it is. I (personally) just like doing completely random thing, on regular Sims, I never play with one family for to long, but on Sims Medieval, If you create a Sim, you either stick with it, or do all of the challenges again
I think it’s mostly to do with variety. If they put more effort into sims medieval it would be an awesome sims side game!
Nice FAQ at the beginning. It really summed up for what I was expecting.
This video is 11 years old but just popped up in my recommended. I actually completely forgot about this game. I'm not a big fan of Sims but this game and Bustin' Out were great.
I still think this game was great for what it was. I sank tons of hours into it, however, unfortunately it is lacking on greater depth. There's a progression system where you can continue to create new kingdoms and play them with different goals in mind, but after while they all play so samey there isn't much incentive to keep going beyond a few levels deep. It would have been excellent had it been expanded upon. Or maybe they could have beefed up their "free play" mode allowing for multiple generations and dynasties while still having a separate mission based play. Oh well. "What Could Have Been" could be applied at this point to dozens and dozens of EA games....

I just recently and i gotta say i really love the your videos.
I've never been someone who played or particularily enjoyed sims games or anything-building games (say simcity, roller coaster tycoon, etc, etc) but hearing you talk about them in your usual style of reviews (which surprisingly hasn't really changed over the years and i mean that in a good way) is so interesting to listen to and watch, i've been binge watching a whole bunch of your sims games reviews today. (city XXL, simcity stuff, etc, etc) i'm barely barely scratching the surface of everything sims related you've reviewed over the years.
Your channel is easily escalating as one of the best one for me.
The sims medieval is one of my favorites. Maybe because I just really love medieval themed games? I also wish they'd make a roaring 20s version of the sims. Party like the great gatsby! :P But I think I'll reinstall this if I can find my key code! D:
You could make a Duke Nukem who could literally be a duke...
I found this video 10 years later and its one of the best review videos I've ever seen
Did you ever asked yourself: "How would be to live the life of an npc?". The Sims Medieval answers this questions.
And: no, being an npc is not very fun. Btw, I loved this game but it's just too underdeveloped.
I love the sims medieval to this day it may be my favorite. Even the expansion pack for the game was amazing. Everything about it I love. Expect the glitches. I can play for days on end and then suddenly my sim can't leave the castle. I'd kill for a revamped sims medieval.
I heard there's an EP for Medieval called Pirates and Nobles? Correct me if I'm wrong. Think you can do a review on that, LGR?
there is
I liked this game. Pretty funny characters and gameplay. :P However, after finishing all the scenarios (even all the new ones with the expansion pack) I didn't know what to do with it. Would've been better if they added other sims 3 features to it.

LGR has pretty much become my Covid-19 isolation outlet and im not even a PC gamer but find this channel very entertaining, thanks man!
I kind of love this game. Not enough to play it every week like I do with sims 4. But when the mood hits me, it hits like a train.
You are gaining a steady fan in me with your videos - and you definitely sped it up with the hilarious NOPE intro!!
I love it!! 😂

Newer comment here. October 2020: I just bought the whole game on Origin’s site for $19.95 USD. It contained the expansion pack of Pirates and Nobles as well. Played it all weekend. It’s very fun. Actually, for what it’s worth, it’s a lot more fun than Sims 4. Sure there are rabbit holes, but there are more locations to WALK to and explore, and it actually feels like there are less rabbit holes than Sims 4. The Sims Medieval doesn’t bombard with load screens. Maybe because I’m goin through the ‘honeymoon’ phase with this game, but it’s actually really fun IMHO. No. The graphics are not Sims 4, but they are livable. I would have enjoyed CC made by people for this, but as a whole it makes a worthy stand alone game in general.
I just got the game today. Still $20 and it’s honestly freaking wonderful. I’m having so much fun playing it.

TSM has the best looking sims of the entire franchise imo, still upset they don't used these models for TS3.
You can have "free game" non quest with adjustable options like work or no work n such, you have to beat the first chapter for it to unlock
i play mainly ts4 with a bit of ts3 mixed in, and i always come back to this game. it’s such a fun disruption from the monotony that can come from a traditional sims game. i love having quests to complete, characters (heroes) who are quite distinct, and a visually lovely aesthetic. while medieval is nowhere near complete (and i wish they had been able to expand on it), i inevitably return to it at least once a year. there’s limited gameplay, and once you reach the threshold it’s not nearly as fun, but until then, i always have a blast. i love this game and i so wish they had expanded on it more than just with pirates & nobles
You are hilarious! I watch some of your videos that I don't care for the games you are reviewing, but you crack me up, keep up the good worj
I'm a liiiiittle disappointed that you never covered the expansion, mostly because of pirates and stuff. :D
Ramdom Trivia: It took me 4 years to realize The Sims Medieval was not a Sims 3 expansion.
Also when I used to play SimCity 2000 I thought the African Swallow speed was how fast it took an African American to Swallow.
Huh. The religion thing got me thinking. Aren't characters from any game which doesn't interact with the fourth wall effectively agnostic, since they aren't aware of you manipulating their actions and environment?
ZorotheGallade well, the characters could full well be atheist or believe in a different all powerful force, they'd just be wrong! Lol

The looks of the Spies remind me of Assassin's Creed characters. I smell a lawsuit from Ubisoft to EA brewing.
Seth Bailey Well, the composer of the first Dragon Ball Z Budokai (2003) was claimed to have used copyrighted material in the music in 2011, so Ubisoft suing EA could happen.
Lowdog002 It was not the composer of just the game, It was the composer of most of the entire Franchises music. Dragonball is still one of the strongest anime's on the planet, of course he's going to get sued for stealing parts from multiple songs. This is just a very faint resemblance- Not enough to go by really.
Video Game Industry Politics is a confusing subject. It's not uncommon for companies to harass others because of the use of words that appear in the Oxford Dictionary only to completely ignore blatant rip offs. It all depends on whether they feel they have anything to gain from the prospect, and they're all a bunch of delusional megalomanic bastards making it even more confusing.
And Assassin's Creed copies the Knights Templar in a way. So therefore they can't really claim the design as their own since it kind of relates to world history which can be used by anyone.
Nar ubisoft isn't like that unline EA and apple they aren't pussies who sue someone if the gui is the same colour or something
DO I HEAR AGE OF EMIPIRES MUSIC IN BACKGROUND ?
Yep! I hear it too. Definitely AoE music.
It must be..I was confused when i heard it.
i thought my brother was playing it, so i paused to realize he wasn't lol
Holy shit I'm not the only one
Oh my god subtle Aoe2 music on the background :DD I love ya
Eight and a half years later and a few lazy wheel scrolls down tells me no one has noticed this... That's you doin the Duke at 4:02 "Medieval." In case you guys don't know, his Duke Nukem impression is... impressionably impressive. Hail to the King baby!
More Sims Medieval
It's pretty awesome. Especially, with the Pirates and Nobles expansion. Speaking of which, LGR PLEASE review Pirates and Nobles. I understand if you don't have the time, but I just wanted to put in a request. It's a great pack and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks! :)
I like the AOE2 music at the end.
Damn you're good. So good. Professional quality reviews.
ha AoE II music in the background for sims medieval review, well played 👏
that Age of Empires 2 music hnnnggg
One time i got really really drunk and decided it would be a good idea to buy this along with Pirates and Nobles. What even is my life.
OH MY GOD I just noticed you had Age of Empires music playing at the end
Loving the Age of Empires 2 early game music towards the end of the video lol.
I like how years ago it is 50 bucks and now I just checked and it is like 5 dollars on Amazon haha. I mean, now it is more worth getting for christmas than 50.
The way this is structured as a game reminds me of The Sims games on consoles like The Urbz, The Sims on Xbox or any of them. They usually had reduced features and a more focused 'story mode'
Nice playing the Age of Empires 2 theme in this vid. I wasn't sure if that was it until the very end.
That Monty Python reference...
My man, you are now my favourite RUclipsr.
i lol'd at the Monty Python reference.
NOPE! Killed me
Subbed!!
Your grammer is incorrect. It should say: "Nope killed me!" Wait, if a man named Nope murdered you, how did you post this comment?
Jerry Stamos BOOOOOOOO
@@Private27281, it's spelled "grammar". IN YO FACE! ✊
Well this vid is just what i need to see to make sure if i want to download it or not :) , thankss
The “it’s only good if you know what you’re getting into” is solid this is why you’re the best reviewer
This game disappointed me, like I wanted family members fighting & killing for the throne & order people’s executions 😭
14:31
"Eat, sleep, woohoo, make a blue person and die"
I just realized that there's Age of Empires soundtrack playing in the background. >_> Nice touch.
Great review!! Thanks!
