- The double end bag is probably one of the easiest ways to improve your skills at home. The one I use is pretty good. I like the size and it was one of the cheaper ones (affiliate link)

I'm so glad you've taken the well-being of us igloo living people into consideration :)
😂😂😂😂
Did anyone else notice the dildo floating on the top edge of the screen at 3:00 ?
This was the first thing my dad got for me and told me if i cant hit this rhythmically I had no business hitting other bags.
I'm making one out of a bowling ball!
You're a real man.
🤣🤣🤣
Balls of steel
"Fred Flintstone does boxing" lol
😆😆😆
Just got mine yesterday, and I absolutely love it. It’ll definitely improve hand/eye coordination, and if you’re not quick enough it’ll bop you when you least expect it. Best part is I’m not thinking of it as a chore because I’m having so much fun training with it.
Made one ! Thanks I love it not only for for speed ,and timing ,but also to practice head movement after combos ,and coming right back with combos after head movement
Hey, how's the bag? Is it still holding up?
I used to make a double end bag out of a basketball in a mesh bag hooked up go bungee chords. I got a real bag last Christmas and love it. Way more engaging than a heavy bag.
"You need to do something."
That isn't only a quarantine quote that's an everyday quote!
Couldn't agree more! The double end bag is the single most important piece of home training equipment in my opinion. You can set them up anywhere and have a lot of flexibility in setups with different sizes and strap/bungee tensions. It's also the only bag that hits back :) Throw on some 16oz gloves and build some serious speed and strength, since it helps enforce keeping your hands up. Love the DIY version with the ball too!
The Street Fighter-esque training sequence at 2:52 is fantastic!
4:02 how long did you giggle after that cut?
I tried to go back and do another take where I actually tried to make a joke out of it but nothing was as good as the natural reaction.
@@IcyMikeP "that's what she said"
True, so long as you want to do strict boxing and do not want train mid or low kicks, knees, clinch, etc.
So...if you do a collapsible d-ring in the floor, you can actually make it pretty easy to alternate the same space between heavy bag and reflex bag.
They are simply different tools for different purposes, if you want speed and endurance with your arms up, speed bag. If you want coordinated movement and striking - reflex bag. If you want power and varied technique...heavy bag. You can get away with all 3 in a pretty small amount of space though.
Alternative title: “The Double End Bag is Better for a Home Gym. How to make one with random bullshit from your house”
Can't swear in the titles haha.
Icy Mike you were talking bout the monetization thing about how the tone of the vids matter more than the cussing and but there really are limitations smh
@@IcyMikeP meh
Hahahaha
Haha!
the single most important piece of equipment for striking arts. you can also practice hand fighting, you'll sometimes get tied up in it, just like you might an opponents arms, can practice various clenches and can attach noodle segments to the rope for something to grab. super cheap. versatile.
completely mobile, can backpack and hang it in a park or the woods. I hang mine super loose sometimes so it has a slow wide arc and is good for head movement training . my favorite
I looked right off the bat on Amazon Canada for the bag - all ones on amazon temporarily out of stock! But then I kept watching and I see how to make one. Genius. Absolute genius. Thanks @hard2hurt! I am so glad I subscribed.
I am surprised at how applicable to so many people this video was.
I made mine. Gotta find one more bungee cord. Then tomorrow I test it out. Woohoo!
"You gotta decide how long you like it, or how tight you like it... You gotta pick." - Icy Mike
Y'all heard the man. You can't keep going back and forth. Make a choice... Lol
After I said it I went back and tried to make a gag or joke out of it in another take but nothing was as good as the natural reaction.
Roger that!
I asked me Julie that but she wallopped me in the head with a wet fish
@@IcyMikeP 🤣🤣
It makes less noise too, for people who live with roommates or neighbors with very little patience
So weird. My wife and i have been doing your home workouts and i just got a double ended bag from amazon. Right after i set it up, this video got posted
You are also very cute when you sleep.
@@hard2hurt eh
@@hard2hurt hello , i have a low ceiling , can i make this work?
Well, it is not weird at all, since google know your browser's history and they listen your conversation through your phone's microphone :)
Mike all night
Something not many people think when it comes to this bag is snap kicks and super-chamber kicks. It really works kick dexterity.
2:50 Damn bro, you’re looking smooth on that.
Great idea. Thanks for making this video. I made a double-ended bag for my garage and it works awesome.
Awesome, I just got a double end bag a few weeks ago and almost bought the Everlast weight thing but I'll try my kettle bell instead. Thanks for another great vid, dude.
Be glad you didn't... It sucks.
Btw, thank you for this. I haven’t been able to spar since the lockdown, so any vid on how to workout alone is very welcome.
We set up a heavy bag in my house some years back. Then a kid lunged and tried to swing off it. The hole thing came crashing from the ceiling.
Double ended bag is the best! So much fun.
I was today years old when I found out that elbow strikes and forearm strikes are 2 different things
Meh... i mean they are but its not super important. Nobody really calls forearm strikes forearm strikes in practice. Everything is usually called elbows.
Another tip that makes it easier for beginners is to wear gloves. I wore 16 oz gloves when I started on it. Now this bag is the only thing I use quick gel wraps on since mine is a mexican style made of PU leather that shreds your hands when you graze it lol.
Dude great video thanks, I loved the “I don’t expect anyone to make this...hahaha!!” As I’m getting older the heaVy bag wears my joints down too much for daily practice nowadays, I need a double end bag ASAP in my life!
I have to agree i bought mine 6 weeks ago it's the best it's much better than a heavy bag and it can hit back!!! Thats the best part it hits back! And you have to have good technique to use and enjoy it 🙂🙂 i never thought hitting a bag of air can improve my boxing
I lift the bucket on my tractor and hang my double end from there lol
That's hardcore.
M A N L Y
Just ordered a soccer ball, I'm buying some bungee cords and carabineers tomorrow. And using a basketball net to hold the ball, and tape to keep everything together and sturdy. My home gym is slowly coming together 🥊🥊
I gotta disagree with “never use a stand”. I rent my apartment and I can’t just drill into the ceiling. So I got a stand better than not training at all!!
Vincent you don’t know how to patch a hole?
Im making one outdoors for my bag
Ricardo can't think apparently, some places aren't built to have some heavy bag hanging from it.
I feel like Mike sometimes just throws bullshit out there just because he thinks he can do so and people are dumb enough to just accept it.
Stands will limit how much you can move around the heavy bag, but you gotta be able to adapt and supplement that training with some padwork or sparring. Use your fucking brain.
I intend to have a welder make me a stand. I'm just looking for designs that I can use.
Do wht I did and use bedroom doorway or any doorway buy a pull up bar tht hangs over the door frame and hang your bag on it. I did tht for about 3 years in an apartment and never had any problems.
That's why I use freestanding
I live in an apartment with a yard and wanted some way to get some work in at home. Appreciate this video, new subscriber now.
"...or how long you like it." You almost got through it without laughing 😭.
The jokes just write themselves.
I couldn’t stop laughing
He is 100% right. One of the most important piece of training equipment.
Built one years ago by punching a hole from end to end through a nerf football and threading rubber tubing through the hole. Worked great. Really fast response.
I had to come show my appreciation for this video, I made one in under 10 minutes while cooking rice and chicken 💪🏼 if you don’t have bungee cord can use kids pony bands !! Works hilariously amazing!!
Marketing idea - design and sell a reflex bag that makes the "BOW-BROW! BOP BOP!! BOP BOP BORW!!" noises for you. Who wants in?!
Talk to me when you're ready to license my noises.
I made one from a football and wrapped it with a golf club bag strap (heavy leather) then taped it up with heavy duty gorilla tape. centered it on thick bungee cord material from Lowes, an eye hook in the stud in the ceiling in garage and weighed with flat weight plate on floor. It hits hard and if you dont move fast enough you get a good wop, mabe a bloody nose lol. My fists are like rocks now!
Did I just see a giant Whang at 3:00 lmao
@@notjaybtw6608 lol
Fir the record the double end bag is now my favorite too
I just built one almost like yours just with 2 bungee cords and a soccer ball the same size. Shorter bungee on top and longer on the bottom. Works great in my opinion and I like that its smaller and harder to hit.
At 4:00 ... "Like how long you like it, or how tight you like it?!" PAUSE - hahaha
Used this this bag more then any other at the gym. Rhythm, timing, distance, reaction, etc. Improved my game 5x. Oi!!
4:01 gets flustered by “that’s what she said” joke that he couldn’t finish 🤷🏻♂️
I sorta replicated this with cordage by using a simple knot pattern to make a radial net to secure the ball, instead of using the duct tape. Though the duct tape is much softer on the hands, I didn't want to make anything even semi-permanent since I only have one soccer ball :)
Will either try some reused bike tubes to secure it or the same cordage as the net. Thanks for the great idea!
I have the tennis ball set up like that and it's hard to hit at first but get use to it and you'll be ok. Thanks man like the video 😎
Also stuff a tennis ball in a leg of panty hose or a long sock tie them off around your bungees
What does that do?
Kinky.
@Dirkjan lol hahaha yeah
I like it. Must get myself another one. With a acl surfing injury and a tear in my other knee , I have been scared of high pivot movement. I get excited then hurt myself . Old age tears your young mind apart
Unless you want to shin clack with your buddy, a heavy bag is decent conditioning. The softer moving target might seem cool, however, it doesn't actually mimic head movement in any real way nor will it condition your limbs for hard strikes.
What's the Size of the one you're demonstrating? T hey come in 5" - 7" & 9" - Thanks & Stay Safe.
I think 9
@@hard2hurt Thanks brother. Happy Holidays. oNe LovE from NYC
9” look at his first for comp
I’ve had this before and seem to be a natrual mine is much more resistant so it springs like crazy and I’m very accurate with my jab and straight
Agree. I haven't boxed or worked out hard in 10 years! So all i ordered was a extra small double end bag. I also ordered a slip bag. Slip bag is good too 😷👍. Oh and nice strikes btw
Thanks man. Nice set up too. My home gym is the same color. I got into this just in search for a way to warm up my arms before weights and I fell in love with it as a work out. I appreciate your advice on how to make one as well.
Both are best. I might prefer the speed bag if I could only have one piece of boxing equipment. Especially for a novice, I recommend Not using a rope "S-Hook" to secure the double-end. If you miss, the open end of the s-hook will scrape and cut into your forearms.
Tha nka for this.. just started bjj and Muay Thai class. Starting to put together some home stuff to practice
Yo Mike I actually really liked this idea and made one for my home. I can't speak for how it improved my anythings, but I gotta say it's the most fun thing in my place by a wide margin, and I actually ended up using it a lot more than I thought I would. I am going over to hit it when training, when relieving off stress from work, when thinking about how to approach a problem with my work or my studies or just when thinking about what I'll have for dinner.
If anything I think it's teaching me to be stay aware even when relaxed or with my mind half elsewhere. I had the thing bounce back to my face a number of times in the beginning but that's happening less now, even if I still do random stuff on it while thinking about who knows what.
Made one out of a basket ball held in place with a basket ball net (not gaffer tape). Great for head movement - it hits back! Cant use it without gloves though because the nylon net rips up your knuckes.
That’s what she said. @3:58
You made my day with this one.😆
This is for beginners to know how to control their bunches but the heavy bag it’s to give them strength as they are fighting a real human weight , but it’s good job that you did
excellent , i have one lying around for ages iI am putting it up today! Namaste
Mike, why not put a bag on a stand?
They tip over too frequently.
Some of them the feet come out to far and your not really able to move around the bag well.
@@leebrown8498 ah cool thx man
I was out of town and went to a commercial gym with a bag on a stand (the only bag accessible without either paying for a personal trainer or being in there for sports rehab). It was horrible. I'm 5' 7" (170 cm) and it was like trying to punch a short person. The stand simply couldn't be adjusted any higher. I ended up shoving a medium sized medicine ball in the top between the chains just to raise it up a couple of inches.
It had no weight. I'd pile whatever spare weights I could on the stand so I could at least use a little power and work body shots.
And yeah, the legs stuck out where I needed to step. So footwork was out. Whoever designed it clearly has never boxed before. Yet alone done kickboxing.
@@edwardstanulevich1764 yeesh that does not sound fun :/
I made mine with a basket ball and the whole time I before I started tapeing it I knew I needed to leave the air hole exposed. Then I taped right over the damn thing.
I never took any training. Would this still be a good idea?
It would be easier if you keep the strings tight
If you train unsupervised, you’re gonna grow on your mistakes and bad habits without realizing. I’d try to keep things simple and work in front of the mirror in that case.
@@umbrellastation25 kinda has a point... I really recommend you get some kind of training to go along with it but I think this is even better for beginners than a heavy bag.
Yea if you like hitting air
Are you trying to be a boxer in fights? Or just for fun? If it's just for fun go for it
I was considering getting a waterproof cover for a freestanding bag kept outdoors as I don't have much space inside. However I am now sold on the double end bag :-). Thanks icy Mike - you seem alright when you're not armed with a taser 🙂
Very informative video and the actual demo is superb its obvious that the guy is professional.
It gets better as you change the bands holding it in place. Next level is to play with another person and try to hit each. Kinda like a violent tetherball game 😂
Fanny thing is, last summer I made one, quite the same.
Sadly, I needed gloves because of the duct tape.
After a few weeks I had it hit to pieces.
After i hit the old 'sandbag', I found in the basement, in two.
Mine is a tennis ball, which I have used for the last ten years. It works well.
This vid is legit . Love the concept and no bushit going on.
He has the funniest reaction to his own fruity suspect comments
I'm thinking about all you guys reacting to them.
In my opinion the heavy bag is THE best equipment to develop strenght and powerful blows... I have strong wrists, I can practice a lot of techniques, kicks, elbows, knees, punches, open hand attacks, even blocks... in fact my heavy bag's been my best friend since I was young ;-)
And why "never put a heavy bag on a stand" ? I mean I don't have any other options for a heavy bag while I'm under a rent contract. Yes you can not rotate more than 120-180 degrees around it but hey, it's a home configuration.
Just made one with an old soccer ball my dog chewed up lol. I can’t believe how well it works.
Thanks for the tip, ordered mine today :)
I made one years ago for my son. Nice informative video.
Especially slower bulkier guys...if you've already got good pop, no need to bang on a heavy bag everyday. Work on that timing and speed on the double end. If you lack pop, I suggest some more heavy bag work and possibly a heavy handed mitt holder. Some just never get fast and some just never have pop.
I would say the Heavy bag is better for training hard strikes and getting stronger, while this is better for reflexes, hand-eye coordination, technique, etc.
4:05 you got me there 😂😂😂
I’m making this today. Thanks for the idea.
Guy has a whole gym and looks like he don’t even use it lol
What's even funnier is if you watch some older stuff and realize I own an actual commercial gym too! It's crazy! How could a dude make his living in fitness but look so small and unfit?!
train hard, but look skinny with this one simple trick... 🍌
Cracked tf up when he cut it
Just wait a few months. All this gym equipment will be on craigslist for penny's on the dollar along with toilet paper.
This comment didn't age well
Been saying this. Most valuable piece of equipment
I take Kickboxing and TaeKwondo I use my heavy bag for kicks and Double-end bag for speed and accuracy. Honestly I usually use heavy bag, cause I feel a better workout after. I also feel more improved punches and kicks. I mean getting stronger after training on heavy bag. I only use double end bag if someone is home in my house. The heavy bag shakes the whole house. I chained it around the supporting I-beam. In my opinon always go heavy bag if you can.
I know I’m late to this vid but will this end up tearing my roofs Sheetrock and then ripping and falling??
Great video. Double end bags are great. So fun
I am 1000% going to make one of these
Phew, I’m glad this will work for my igloo
Try using surgical tubing. It really helps increase return speed
the noises, i love it
Me and my dad mad one pretty similar to this today but we used a rugby ball
Mans got an X-Men vs. Street Fighter cabinet in his garage. Godlike
the soccer ball and duct tape is old school for a Double End Bag, so is a basketball.... though it would be better to use parachord than straps and big carabiners.
I take mine to the gym, light as a feather. A take anywhere piece of kit, saves neighbour issues in a block of flats 😂
Making this later tonight 💪🏾👏🏾🎯
Amazing idea I maid one and works perfect unbelievable
Great video
I made a double-ended bag for my home gym
Nice suggestion but you cannot develop power with just a floor to ceiling ball though.
that weight at the bottom is genius
Can't believe I haven't subbed until now. Thanks for this
I've got heavy bag, floor to ceiling, speed bag and professional multi gym, pads, nearly 300kg weights in my home gym
