One of the things I love about you is that you are able to share your emotions that you are feeling at a particular time and place. Too many times I have allowed my emotions drive my behavior. When we focus on what we lack, well we will see that we are lacking. At the end of the day you had regrouped and focused on what you had and were grateful for having them. It is good to see you climb out of the valley and end up in a high place emotionally. Tap into love, joy and peace my friend. Much love from Alabama! Happy Hiking
Such a gorgeous place! I’ve been preparing for my first backpacking trip and really learning a lot from your videos. I’m struggling finding someone to go with me as I’ve realized I don’t really want to do them alone. I know that I can & I probably will do some alone, but I don’t think I would enjoy it as much. My schedule is more flexible than some of my friends & the others just aren’t interested in doing a trip like that. I hope you got to swim!
Thank you for your honest and heartfelt words. I am a very slow solo hiker and on my most recent trip, really struggled to accept the full range of emotions from elation to fear and loneliness and self-doubt all the way back to gratitude for all that I am experiencing. Thank you again!
We had the same camp spots! But I was struggling sooo hard to get to Susi Lake. I think this was actually the hardest day on the whole trail for me - due to the heat, heavy pack with resupply and the rocks... Also, we made the same mistake and thought heather lake is Susi lake. :-)
Looks like the emotional challenges are as tough as the terrain, but glad you were able to make it a positive experience with the aqua blaze and some new acquaintances. Thanks for keeping it real! Hope you were able to swim, that lake looked inviting.
Lovely hike! One observation, I watched all of your AT videos and it seems on that trail there was a ‘bubble’ and a sense of community, trail angels and shelters where you can meet up with people, etc. From the looks of your videos here it seems like there is less people on this trail? Just thinking the loneliness could be the hike and perhaps less trail community? Just a thought. Thanks for sharing!
The views and lakes are so beautiful! I’m envious of you but appreciate you being real about the emotional and physical challenges. Gotta take the good with the bad. I’ll be following along!
Count me in for your next adventure! I don’t work and would love to hike again with you! I am starting the High Sierra Trail on Thursday, super excited, 10 days food carry, I am doing it slow, I want to enjoy it to the max. See you and thanks for the videos.
Well it is what it is. I’m older than my wife and I am going to retire next year. If I am going to do the things I want to do I’m going to have to do them alone. She has no plans to retire and she doesn’t do outdoors anyway. If I wait I’ll be too old. If I’m lucky I’ll have about ten years to hike in the mountains. Maybe more but my parents are still here and they told me that at around 75 they were just not able to do like they used to. So it’s do it or let it go.
I was there on August 21st, before the storm rolled in, and stayed on the north side of Aloha, about mid-point between the Dick’s Pass trail that takes you to Heather, Suzi, and Gilmore, and Mosquito Pass, which takes you to Clyde. It was brutally windy that night! I returned to Echo Chalet for my ride back to town. Did you know that Lake Aloha is a man-made lake? It was created by a dam!
I planned to finish early the day before I flew home and spend most of the next day enjoying South Lake Tahoe before my flight. That was my buffer time. In hindsight, I wish I’d planned about 17 says vs. 15 (inclusive of travel days.)

My daughter and I saw you at chalet, but didn't want to intrude. That section was a good day.
Awww, sorry I didn’t get to meet you. Hope you had a great time!

Absolutely brilliant place my friend, your channel is getting better and better!
Thank you very much!

It’s Chantale 😊
Have fun out there! I’ve only seen videos of that trail, but it looks gorgeous!
Have a great time!
Good to hear from you! We need to catch up after your hike. 🙂

Wow, I had no idea it wasn’t natural!
Would you have been able to allow for extra days so you could relax more?
