i do not understand having so much fire starter and so many knives and so little food, you cant stay out for more then 3 days on that food before you start becoming a liability, that is my only big negative, . why not swap some of that gear weight over to other things, a colored smoke marker might be useful, maybe a bit more climbing gear in case you need to get to a sketchy spot, or out of one. might be the 3rd backup weight could better serve you and whole knew capability weight
Are you required to purchase all of the first aid supplies to use on patients or does the SAR team/sheriff dept have a large team kit that they supply for you?
Thank you. I saw Wyatt at a SAR Academy this past weekend and think we will do another. Not much has changed but streamline the video a bit. Anything you didn't see that you would like to see?
I want to get into sole SAR job but the state that I live in California have their SAR department attached with law enforcement. In order to get paid for doing SAR I would have to be law enforcement. Does all SAR team members need to be EMT certified or just basic first aid and cpr?
Wyatt, our unit's gear guru, replied with this: "Heat up a nail with a flame, holding onto it with pliers. Then press the hot nail across the side of the tape roll. The heat will melt it, causing it to hold in place. Don’t apply too much heat/melt or it will be too difficult to remove."
Much appreciated. I just purchased a hill people gear sar kit bag and am looking for an essentials list to accompany my hiking and bushcrafting packs. I am curious to know what are your most useful and essential medical items that you carry. I want a couple cat tourniquets and chest seals and pray I never need them.
Hi Carl. Thank you for the kind words. The metal match is from OutdoorSafe (see link below). And he switched out the hacksaw blade for a more robust carbide sharpener. Link to metal match: outdoorsafe.com/shop/ols/products/outdoorsafe-metal-match
Good comment :-). The funny thing is that a lot of the food, shelter, and clothing items are meant for a patient(s). Should we need to stay overnight, we can keep people calm and warm.
@@channingpaine7223 Wyatt's pack is roughly 40 pounds sans water. He is a team leader so he will carry more gear than most, for example, he may carry duplicate or triplicate of a critical survival item.

This is an EXCELLENT overview. Thank you
today I added a few peices of fabric with vaseline thanks to this video! thank you for your insight sir!
Thank you for the kind words. I carry and teach students to carry cotton balls soaked in petroleum jelly-they help light wet wood.
Awesome breakdown.
Wow, a very thorough bakpak 4 any Search & Rescue mission. Any1 needing help will b in good hands when yur team arrives. Thx 4 Sharing on Utube.
Hi John. Thanks for the comment.
I am guessing that 30% of our gear is for a patient - extra food, clothes, shelter, medical, etc.
Excellent video. Would love to see more on the flashlights and knifes you carry.

Great question: we purchase our own gear.
Typical for public safety lol. We purchase our own too.
This is the only realistic SAR kit video on here

Really liked your medical bag. That a wilderness kit?
Great video! I would love to see a list of components that you carry and would love to know what backpack that is.
Thank you, Sam. Here is a generic list for individual field searchers. No specialty gear included: survival--u.blogspot.com/2021/02/blog-post.html
@@SurvivalU can you add links to the gear from the video if possible. Thanks
What pack is shown in the video? Doing a SAR t RR aining course next month (cold weather) and don't have any ideal packs.

Hi Nicky, for our team here in North Idaho, CPR and Basic First Aid only. I believe every department is different.
Ex-California SAR member here. It’s volunteer only, and is connected to county Sheriff’s Department. You will pay out of pocket for all personal gear.
EMT certification required; you can do your semester while completing SAR academy.
Do you bring sleeping bags for overnight missions?
Typically, individuals do not. Each team, however, carries one for a patient hypothermia wrap.
Great breakdown of what you carry. How do you stop your flagging tape from unspooling?

Great video. However, judging from the amount of food I think you should add an extra pack of TP, just in case, ha.
