Tall at 180 cm (5'11") and with a weight of 50 kg (110 lb), she began her career as a model in 1974 at the age of 17. She quickly became nicknamed by many as "the talking mannequin", due to her tendency to talk with fashion journalists and express her opinions on her profession and on fashion.
In 1975, at the age of 18, La Fressange appeared for the first time in photos by Oliviero Toscani for Elle magazine, then modelled for Thierry Mugler and other designers.
In 1983 she became the first model to sign an exclusive modeling contract with the haute couture fashion house, Chanel, by fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, whose muse she became[3] due to her remarkable resemblance to the brand's founder, Coco Chanel, who died in 1971. She was the first model to sign an exclusivity contract with a fashion house and the first model to become a big media personality and popular figure in fashion history, a symbol of the 1980s due to her omnipresence.

She worked the runway like an actress who just happened to have the suave of a supermodel. It’s as though she channeled the perfect personality for each outfit. She BECAME the ideal for the clothing. She delivered a package, unique each and every time down the runway. No other model, I’m sure, would have gotten away with breaking out of the “mold” for the show. Who could mess with success like that❤️

Absolute proof that runway models do not have to walk with blank, stupid, vacant stares on their faces, nor do they have to scowl. The clothes look a million times better when models look as if they are enjoying them.
Agree with you on that but I did hear starting in the early 00s that designers collectively decided they wanted models to be 105 lbs and to have the same scowl look on their faces in their minds it displayed the clothing better as the models didn't distract from the clothing when they scowled

@@din5027 One of the best shows I've seen was a video by Zimmermann. It must have been about 6 months ago and was for Summer 2022. It was as if the models were at a party and everyone was chatting, joking, moving around and having a good time. It was so refreshing to see models smiling and enjoying themselves. Rather than detracting from the clothes, it made them look as if they were dressed to party and have a good time. So as a customer, I would ask, do you want to be in clothes that make you uncomfortable or clothes that make you smile? Times change and it is time for models to stop acting as if they want to spit.

First time witnessing this beauty. She is what I envision a Chanel woman should be. The clothes are all masterpieces on their own, but she definitely gave them life. So much personality infused in every walk, and it’s her interpretation of the wearer of the clothes. I love it. She’s an instant favourite for me.

Back in 1986 when she was promoting the release of COCO for Chanel she was on David Letterman and the Late Show w Joan Rivers, she was absolutely charming! I had recorded those on VHS and always swore I would digitize them - one day!
