I now have another Velcro breed after my last Dobe died at 5 from DCM. I now have a Vizsla. The biggest difference is that everyone loves to come say hi to my Vizsla. People were afraid to come say hi to my Dobermans even though they were gentle. I don’t like people so I love that people are scared of Dobes. I also see the protection side of Dobes as they would always put themselves between me and a stranger. The Vizsla will go to anyone for attention. Both breeds are very Velcro. As of now, the Doberman is still my favorite because I love the protection aspect.

I just got my first doberman. He's 10mnths old and I say he fell into my lap. Because I got him from a shelter. I was looking into getting one from breeder because I've always been a massive fan of the breed but living situations never fell in the right place. Now I own my home and no one can tell me what to do. I did a shit load of research on the breed before I got one, But there were still somethings that you can only learn after having one.

Everytime I see dog fights it’s usually a small dog, bulldog, or doodle. Sometimes pitties but people just let dogs do whatever they want and don’t understand dog body language/behavior. So this type of stuff is going to continue until people do their research and learn dog behavior. Imo

I'm actually on my 2nd set of Dobermans... My 1st set was my Female her name was Pepper and male his name was Diablo... Pepper lived to be 7.5 years old she passed because of bone cancer... Diablo lived to be 12 years old he also ended up getting cancer as well.. Now I have two litter mate bothers Jango and Boba.. Now I know alot of people are against having Littermates. BUT no issues my ways the boys get along great!! They get everything equal and plenty of exercise i have a five acre yard and Frisbee is their favorite thing to play!! They are actually awesome at catching it!! Also I don't breed so they was both neutered as soon as our vet said it was safe to do!! Enjoy the videos keep them coming!! Accurate description of the breed. Currently on 6th dobie. Lost 1 to DMC. Females tend to be more clingy, the males more whiny. Had 2 that sucked their flanks. Not aggressive but will react if they feel you or family is threatened. Have one female that I have to crate when physical therapist comes to house, everything was good until my elderly mother cried out when therapist was exercising her knee after surgery. The dobie instinct kicked in immediately! Female more in tune with family than the males.
Great video on educating about the breed.

Thank you for the candid discussion in this video and your others, especially about the health. I had a dog from working-lines of another "alternative" or "off" breed for the sports. I would occasionally see Dobermann's at the Malinois appreciation and envy clubs. My dog was healthy and lived 14.5 years, but his healthcare costs, especially at the beginning and the very end were high because I was willing to do whatever my total commitment to him required. I'm thinking very carefully before I might suffer being powerless to help my dog live a full life.
As for the underachievement in the sports, I adapted to that. There are only a few years that a dog is in its prime for trials and competition, and their life is so much more than just those years. I like how you characterized in your other video the intention for the Dobermann to have been more about intimidation and wariness than actual manfighting. I've never been the victim of violence, and I intend never to be. I believe a suitable dog is a deterrent to potential offenders and a vigilant dog is also a great partner to me in maintaining situational awareness. I'm trained and equipped to protect myself and my dog. Because I am trained in the legal aspects of self-defense and also in the skills of vigilance, avoidance, de-escalation, and use of force, I am not impressed by fake personal protection dog scenarios or the washed-out sport dogs that perform them. I do have respect for the dogs that excel at the sports as some kind of test of the breeding and a validation of training methods, while recognizing that is a very different set of circumstances.
I hope you continue to enjoy your dogs for a very long time.

The best dog I ever had was a Doberman. Supposedly the shelter was going to put her down. My grandkids could hug her and pet her even when she was old and blind. My only problem was that a lot of campgrounds wouldn’t let us stay because of the breed.

I met a Doberman for the 1st time in an elevator. I was already in the elevator, it stopped at the next floor . In walked in my neighbor and his huge Doberman. I admit I was a bit startled 😢. Upon entering the Doberman walked in and leaned his whole body into my legs and looked up at me with the sweetest face . My neighbor and I burst out laughing. The neighbor nervousness said he ok he ok my dog is quite a "leaner" on people 😂❤😅.

He got between us and warned them all very actively! They are known for biting. You just have to get them to LATCH on instead of bite repeatedly on same spot. The german pincher i have is a biter so they play together!

Aw man I wish I had known about dobermans being an off breed in bite sports before I got a show line. Mine loves to bite and that's not an issue, but he struggles to engage and just doesn't have the drive to work (and find that work rewarding in and of itself) like the belgians, dutchies, and GSDs in my club. It's been something I have just had to come to terms with, that my dog will likely never perform on the same level as those dogs, and is going to be much harder to motivate.

I don’t disagree with anything. But “bite” dogs need to bite on command. Dobermans need to be in a pack to attack… so two Dobermans fight to the death. They were meant like many dogs before “pets” to be paired. My paired team is a Duke Doberman male alpha. Val female Great Dane (real alpha) Daisy bloodhound tracker (omega). They hunt on their own but won’t kill anything but coyotes. With me they will kill on command/ not kill on command. If we could live half as good as these pups lives… there’d be no issues, but we’ve got to deal with fuck yards… ready the cannons! 👍 video
