Peter and Kate do have unique voices. Peter was the singer in Genesis before leaving for a solo career. He has some great song. Deep and meaningful songs and just fun songs. Probably best exemplified by two songs. 'In Your Eyes' and 'Sledgehammer'. Both huge hits.
This song actually kept me going after getting 'let go' from a job. I had nowhere to go, being as I was what is considered as "old" in the business world. My girlfriend and her mother kept encouraging me, even though jobs were at a premium in 1997. Because I didn't "give up" and kept sending resumes out, I finally landed a very good job. I ended up working there for 14 years, and was able to retire with a pension. Just sayin' to all of you, "don't EVER give up..."
There’s a video of this with the 2 of them completely in full on bear hug on a rotating platform- mesmerizing to watch- they never let go- And speaking of quirky and COOL.. his mega hit “Sledgehammer” is a groovy vibe and MUST see official video-💜👍
This song came out during a time when England was going through a serious economic depression. Young men in small towns particularly were laid off from factory jobs.
Angela. You asked about Kate Bush. She was and still is one of my favorites. In the UK she had many hits and is still singing and performing today. I highly recommend...This Woman's Work. It is a beautiful and emotional song. She is an amazing song writer and lyricist with a one of a kind vocal talent. Btw...if I remember correctly this song (Don't Give Up) is about a family struggling during the Great Depression in the USA.
The MTV video to this is also amazing, Peter and Kate Bush embracing each other is powerful. If you want the best of Peter Gabriel, the entire Secret World concert is bar none. 😁❤️
This specific song & duet is a dream combination...the perfect marriage of lyrics & 2 ARTISTS‼️ ♡ If you aren't moved by this, it's time to take a laxative & depart the planet. 🪐
You might want to consider listening to Kate Bush - Woman's work. It was covered by someone else, not that long ago. But this was originally Kate's song. There is no one like her!.
Yes, Kate’s voice is special and a great one to react to if you don’t know her work. Throw in the unusualness of tracks like Pi, Wow or Mrs Bartolozzi and it’s fabulous reaction material.
Peter’s voice is warm and beautiful, so unique. I’m sure you’ll enjoy listening to him if you want to explore some more of his songs. “Solsbury Hill”, for example, is gorgeous, and so are “Washing of the Water” and “Here Comes the Flood”. Peter sings another song with Kate called “Another Day”, you can find it on youtube, too. And Kate does chorus for him in his song “Games Without Frontiers”.
For a stage full of joy and musical genius, try "In Your Eyes", live from the Secret World Tour 😁👼 You'll absolutely love it, we the people promise! 😃👍🤓👼
Solsbury Hill is an uplifting a d fun song, probably his first big hit as a solo artist...check it out. Also, Shock the Monkey is a quirky song that is a protest using animals for lab testing. He has so many good songs, though many have never gone mainstrem.
Really appreciate your commentary, and I really love this song. It is relevant--maybe for many times. For more of Peter Gabriel's unique vocals, I'll repeat a lot of people here and suggest "Solsbury Hill," and if you want to risk a deep cut that also shows off his dynamic style, try "Humdrum." Appreciate your reactions.
Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins were in the same band in the 1970s called Genesis. Collins took over vocals when Gabriel left the band after six amazing albums. And Mike Rutherford (the Mike of Mike & the Mechanics) played bass & guitar in Genesis. Their former lead guitarist is worth checking out. Two songs you might appreciate from him are Serpentine Song (a happy walk about in the park type of song) and To a Close (richly orchestrated and a bit of a tear jerker).
It is amazing the two incredible male voices came out of the band Genesis; Peter Gabriel AND Phil Collins! You should listen to Genesis, both early with Peter and later with Phil as lead singers. Their voices are so similar yet unique. (in early Genesis, Phil sang backup and occasionally solo or in duet with Peter)
He was the lead singer of Genesis before Phil Collins. That said Genesis was an album oriented prog rock band that didn’t explore the commercial side of their music until Phil (just drummer at the time) also started to sing lead. The rest is Rock’N’Roll history.
i suppose songs can have a unique meaning for every person.... for me, this song displays why men need women. I think a man can fight and struggle and continue regardless of any obstacle if he knows his wife believes in him.....he will face anything and everything to protect and provide for his wife and children if he knows he has their love.
Agree with all of the "in Your Eyes" requests. But not from Secret World. Watch the one from Athens, 1987 with Youssou N'Dour who sang the original. It is a wildly beautiful thing
You mentioned during your viewing of Billy Joel's "don't go changing " how everyone needs to be accepted as they are. Another beautiful song to listen to when things are down.
Love Peter Gabriel going back to his early days with the band Genesis to his multi decade eclectic solo career.I saw his secret world tour in 94 one of my favorite concerts. I would suggest In your Eyes next from that tour incorporating a world sound into one of his biggest hits
Like you, many people see this song as being about suicide, or perhaps, suicide prevention. It is not. It is a primal scream from a man who is vulnerable enough to tell the world that what men really need is to be NEEDED. If you listen to it thinking in this light you will see that the woman in his life is telling him, she still needs him--even if he feels taken for granted. The thing that women today have not been taught is that all men actually need is to be NEEDED. That is why you hear so often women say, 'I don't NEED no man'.
Scottish voices are often a bit special. Gerry Rafferty was Scottish / Irish... And tons more were too. Paolo Nutini is Scottish (from the same place as Gerry), Amy Macdonold, Annie Lennox... The list goes on. (Not even gonna mention Rod - Who I've seen at Isle of Wight) :-D
You should check out Peter in his early days with Genesis. "Carpet Crawlers" would be a nice place for you to start. Phil Collins on drums and singing backing vocals. I know you like him Angela.. That's Kate Bush singing with him. Paula Cole does an excellent rendition live too.
A former member and lead singer of Genesis! I've never heard this one before either! He has a haunting voice and I like most of his material! Bye humans!
This song is for 40% who are holding out against the most evil tyranny that will lead to the enslavement and destruction of all humanity. Don't give up and don't give in, because you are carrying on your shoulders the hopes and futures of absolutely everybody, even if they don't yet know it.
#DayOneReacts ... Don't Give Up ... This song sounds like someone already gave up; Wow I mean it is in the key of depression... I gave you a like, but I didn't like this song.... LOL
Tears...every time.
I adore the voices of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush together and the lyrics are just heartbreaking in the hands of these two experts
The live version of Peter Gabriel "In Your Eyes" is life changing and life affirming. You'll love it.

I was going to mention that video if someone hadn't already. It's a beautiful video, and shows how close Peter and Kate are in real life.
Everybody knows that video but I never saw this one. (?)
This song came out during a time when England was going through a serious economic depression. Young men in small towns particularly were laid off from factory jobs.

You really need to do Mercy Street. Simply spectacular. Peter Gabriel, such a name breeds the spiritual and divine.
The MTV video to this is also amazing, Peter and Kate Bush embracing each other is powerful. If you want the best of Peter Gabriel, the entire Secret World concert is bar none. 😁❤️
This is the second video of this song. The first is the best with Peter and Kate hugging. More powerful.
This specific song & duet is a dream combination...the perfect marriage of lyrics & 2 ARTISTS‼️
♡ If you aren't moved by this, it's time to take a laxative & depart the planet. 🪐
Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel....both legendary English artists. You would not be disappointed with diving into either one's musical repertoires.
You might want to consider listening to Kate Bush - Woman's work. It was covered by someone else, not that long ago. But this was originally Kate's song. There is no one like her!.
Wuthering Heights was covered by Pat Benatar

KB massively overrated ... I should know I was a 25 year fan

Absolutely.
I totally agree!
Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes... beautiful Angela, you will love it, I highly suggest that you add it to your reaction list.
You totally caught his message. Female vocals by the amazing Kate Bush... if you're unfamiliar check out her Running Up That Hill
Yes! RUNNING UP THAT HILL :)
Solsbury Hill is an uplifting a d fun song, probably his first big hit as a solo artist...check it out. Also, Shock the Monkey is a quirky song that is a protest using animals for lab testing. He has so many good songs, though many have never gone mainstrem.
Peter’s awesome and that angelic female voice is Kate Bush. Try Running Up that Hill. Another masterpiece.
Need to react to Sleighhammer by him

Humdrum is an amazing song.❤
Kate bush sings backing on Peter's "Games Without Frontiers"

Blood of Eden is one of his most moving songs, and Sinead O’Connor’s backing vocals are hauntingly beautiful.
Peter Gabriel's live cover of "Heroes" is amazing.
"So" is an album just as good as any of his early work in his "other" band.
Different for sure, but just ad good.
Check out Peter live on the secret world tour- In Your Eyes... think you'll love it
The incomparable Peter Gabriel. and the fabulously talented Kate Bush. what's not to love?
I once queued at a till behind Kate Bush.
He was the lead singer of Genesis before Phil Collins. That said Genesis was an album oriented prog rock band that didn’t explore the commercial side of their music until Phil (just drummer at the time) also started to sing lead. The rest is Rock’N’Roll history.
Tears every time. Why do I do this to myself?
Should do Mother of Violence. A hidden gem by Peter.
Kate Bush will melt your heart with This woman's work.

Yes, its a great pairing of Kate and Peter. Got me into Kate Bush's music. Despair and hope.
You really need to watch the video of them hugging while singing this in front of a solar eclipse.
You MUST do some Kate Bush!
Steve Perry Missing You
Kate was great in this song then I head Paula Cole do it live and I was just amazed. Love them both
Kate Bush sings with Peter on his song "Games Without Frontiers" She sing's backup, with him, "Jeux sans frontières' the song title in French.
You mentioned during your viewing of Billy Joel's "don't go changing " how everyone needs to be accepted as they are.
Another beautiful song to listen to when things are down.
Probably the Only Album I Liked From Peter Gabriel. This is a Good One! It gives You Strength to Keep Pushing.

Song really helped me in a hard time...
Don't Give Up is by Peter Gabriel AND the fantastic Kate Bush. Listen to "Running Up That Hill."
Peter's cover of summertime is incredible.
woah, so there's 2 music videos
His best song was "Solsbury Hill " about a place in Somerset that people go to,to have spiritual experiences and see UFOs
In my top ten...
Mercy street by peter Gabriel is a must but you need to wiki what the song is about first
I love this song.
Kate Bush was brilliant on backing vocals.

You should react to Mother's Finest, A piece of the Rock and Baby Love
Great Peter Gabriel songs:
Mercy Street
Steam
The Book of Love
In Your Eyes
Red Rain
Crowded House - Together Alone
Biko and In Your eyes
Pink and John Legend do a nice cover of this.
Am I wrong or did he say this was in response to Thatcher's Government and the closing of all the mines.
Pls. React to Kate Bush her song ..,,… The man with the child in his eyes …..it is soooooo beautiful

In case you weren't already aware, that's Kate Bush singing with him.
She actually mentions that it's Kate towards the end of the video.

No disrespect to Kate Bush, but Paula Cole does the second part of this so much better. She makes it a different song.
Biko
“In your eyes” is a much better song by Peter Gabriel
No, it isn't.
Before I saw it live for the first time, I almost didn't like the studio version at all.

stop watching miserable recommendations
try SLEDGE HAMMER also by

This is the wrong video and most definitely not the one everyone loves that’s why they remade it with kate Bush !
