I find it interesting how many K-pop idols look up to Western stars, especially since I'm less interested in the Western music scene right now. A lot of K-pop idols seem unsure about improvising or moving loosely on stage without choreography. They seem hesitant to be spontaneous or come up with stuff on the spot, maybe because they’re so used to trusting their team and feel like they can't disappoint them.
I’m really curious about what Sakura could come up with in a solo project, given her experience and the unique worldview she obviously has, which we can see in the behind-the-scenes videos. She needs to learn to trust herself and tap into what she already has and is. Not just her, but I see this in a lot of K-pop idols.
Also, I don’t like Sabrina Carpenter. I don’t like her message or attitude. I don’t want to elaborate on that because I don’t actively dislike her; I just simply don’t listen to her music and I’m actually slightly repulsed by it. Also I hated her recent super violent music video, I skimmed through it and quickly thumbs downed it.
I’ve gotten more into K-pop recently because I appreciate how idols take care of their image and are conscious of how they look and the message they send. Of course, I worry when they take things too far, and I find the overly critical Korean audience pretty dumb and unrealistic, honestly. But when that middle ground is found, it’s so inspiring.
A lot of idols genuinely seem to strive to be good examples and role models. There’s a more carefree (or honestly, careless) attitude from American celebrities. The lyrics are often dirtier and less considerate. I really like K-pop, especially fully Korean songs.
Overall, I just really appreciate the positive influence K-pop idols can have, even if the industry has its issues. They shouldn't feel the need to crossover to America; instead, they should pull the whole world towards Korea and make us feel obliged to learn Korean, just like they feel obliged to learn English. Right now, they are totally capable of doing that. I’d rather have my daughter listen to K-pop than literally anything charting in English right now.
I'm gonna stop now... Not gonna write a whole esay...
There is some truth in what you are saying but Sakura herself has moved into the kpop industry after years in jpop, and she was a fan of kpop artists first - Girls Generation, Red Velvet etc. I think the kpop idols usually are big fans of other kpop music typically first and foremost. Western music might have an appeal for its differences but usually ask a kpop group to list their favourite Western artists and its the same answers with few exceptions (someone like Yunjin as an American not so surprisingly might give a more niche answer). But its Charlie Puth (the most random answer from a Western perpespective imo - but he is one of the most prominent Western artists to a Korean audience), Coldplay, Ariana Grande, and now Sabrina Carpenter etc. Sakura seems to have genuinely become a Sabrina fan and she's enjoying it, but I think she still likes kpop (e.g. she went to the IU concert with Minju and Chaewon recently, and as a Kkura biased Fearnot but also Uaena, I have been happy with how much she's mentioned IU lately too).
Actually Sakura became a fan of kpop around 2017 when a Korean fan of her told her a word in Korean (wrote it in romaji) and she asked what that means and what language it was, before that she never really took a glance in kpop or something related to kpop. Girls generation is not a good example of kpop cuz the 2gen of kpop was yet jpop root so it was natural to some Japanese people to know girls generation (in my country they have their fame too even when kpop was nothing outside Korea) let's remember that kpop was born around 95 taking everything from jpop (banning Japanese music so the cultural steal don't keep in Koreans youngsters memory) and so to Japanese was more like another groups copy from jpop. An example of early days of kpo until 3gen even 4 gen is that choreographers and song writters were all Japanese even they teach koreans. Another example is that super junior was created as the male AKB48 😅😅😅 with all the system, produce 101 it's the AKB senbatsu. The dating ban in idols was created in 80s cuz the scandals that happened to Japanese idols during the 80s.(that's why Koreans don't know why there is a dating ban in kpop😂😂😂)
Taking what the original comment is saying the look up to western music from Koreans is more recent cuz before was directly Japan and also even nowadays Korean idols listen and follow Japanese music not only Japanese idol music but with all the Korea government minions attacks on idols from 1 and 2 gen mostly 2 gen and 3 gen they don't say freely they like jpop or some. To point out what I'm talking about stealing and more Yena has released her new song, Koreans are saying and I quote "that's the diversity ONLY kpop have"(when some years ago a Korean music expert explained that kpop doesn't have diversity and roots in korea and it can't be compared in level with jpop cuz the diversity in jpop it's cultural😅😅😅) but it's jpop totally not kpop 😂😂😂 so Koreans are like that they like to take things from Japan(don't take me wrong I'm not saying Yena is stealing or something but Koreans cuz Yena knows it's jpop like all the members of Izone but she can say it cuz the Korea government minions on internet are...) Why I'm talking about jpop cuz kpop idols is not like that only look up a western is more they're the only ones they can say freely they like. I can say lots of examples but it would become a very long comment
not reading that but good for you or sorry that it happened
