1838 was the ‘end” of slavery for our African kinfolks and the beginning of slavery for our East Indian kinfolks. We all still suffer from the effects of slavery from the white folks. Like it or not, we are still suffering from its’ effects.
East Indian people were never slaves. They were indentured servants. They came to Guyana to work on with their free will. Slavery was ended in Guyana before East Indian people came. Unlike, Africans, who were bought to Guyana as slaves and in bondage and enslaved and forced to work without pay. African slaves were brought to Guyana in 1620 and slavery ended 1834. That over 200 years that Africans were in slavery before indentured servants came.
I would like to see French Guyana become free and independent from the French at last ! I have the impression they are still slaves. Please help them. They are struggling on get free from French colonisation
I really enjoyed looking at the crafts and clothing stalls. Thanks for sharing, Ralph.
Thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤
August Monday was always big in Guyana.
As a child I remember my great grandmother singing … ‘First of August come again ; Hurrah my sweetheart…’
Thanks for the video.
Lovely video
