I am in love w/ Sean Hayes. The way he plays that piano, the little shoulder movements and facial expressions are just darling. *sigh, another one lost to the gay camp.
"Memphis" was the only show nominated that had an original score, yet they're the only show that didn't get a number in the opening. If I were them, I'd feel cheated.
ugh I love it how when billie joe armstrong comes out and he's all like WHAT'S UP NEW YORK CITY!?!!!! I WAS GOING NUTS (becasue I am an American Iditio freak) but everyone in the audience was like so civilized ahahaha
I love how everybody automatically finds something wrong or negative w/ Fela. I'm just going to say that & hopefully something will register in your mind.. She sounds amazing. And obviously the show is about African culture. Speaking of culture........
i never saw fela. i never saw million dollar quartet. and i never saw next to normal. but from learning more about them, i just have to see them, anywhere.
@scorpioninpink I like Memphis, but im just not feeling Everyday Raptor, but La cage aux folles is one of the most amazing musicals i have ever seen. I am what i am is my favorite Male Balled next to Stars from Les Mis.
I think it would've flowed better if they had stuck the numbers from American Idiot in the middle, kind of how last year they stuck Bret Michaels in the middle. Then again, that might have not been possible because of all the equipment.
I don't care what people are saying. GREEN DAY IS FREAKING AMAZING AND YOU NEED TO OPEN YOUR MUSICAL TASTE FURTHER. I am saying this as a die-hard Broadway fan
You know, one would have assumed they would have fixed the sound for this year's TONYS after the FAIL that was last year's sound but... nope. Did anyone else notice how the scary woman from Fela! was not singing the creepy notes that we were hearing, and how the blend in the La Cage part was a fail? Dear Tonys, Stop failing. Thanks.
I don't know if anyone remembers but Poison was at the 2009 opening number and I haven't seen a single piece of hate on that year's video. Everyone just wants to pick something because it wasn't as good as the 2009 one. I respect everyone's opinion but I just wanted to throw in my two cents.
For everyone complaining about Green Day, A) their music made some gorgeous transitions, as 21 Guns proves B) If pop stars/rock stars on the Tonys are so awful, why did Poison perform the year before this? Just accept that Broadway is broadening its sound and is appealing to more people.
honestly, was ready to say something along the lines with "Green Day does not belong to Tony Awards" (and they shouldn't really)... but God, they are still so good live and the AI cast set the mood right... I must say good performance among the mediocre broadway shows. Wasn't broadway best years. But Neil Patrick Harris, on the other hand...
Thing is, Green Day are a fantastic band, and they are amazing to see live, heck ive been to one of their concerts. But to perform on the Tony Awards is a big massive NO-NO! This is an award ceremony for Theatre, not for bands.
Yeah, yeah i knew that Tony's not for bands... but what i mean or what i want is some RESPECT y'know... so i don't give a sh*t if everyone's saying that Green Day don't "deserve" to be there or blah blah blah... and yeah of course i know how to respect some comments/opinions too... but geez... i saw a lot of comments 'bout that so it's pretty annoying now...
What about the fact that at the begining of Electricity, Elton John's mike was off and during the begining of the Luck Be A Lady/Tonight mashup you could hear warm-ups in the background? I'm saying the production of this opening number was much better. Plus, despite my love for N2N and Pal Joey, those musicals together kind of makes me cringe. Plus, my hate of Rock of Ages means I tend to skip that part, just like I skip Fela! on this on
@thewickedboy2012 So I looked through the comments to say who said American Idiot was a copy of Rent and *incredulously* Les Mis. And I'm sorry. That's stupid. American Idiot may have stemmed from the genre of "rock" musicals that began in part because of Rent, but it is not similar. And I won't even dignify the Les Mis comment with an explanation. That's just plain ignorant. If it's a copy of anything, it's Hair, and even then you can only draw parallels. I saw it. it was incredible.
@ImNotThere100 the ONE comment I saw actually talking about the technical aspect was written only a week ago. I responded to people like lyras12 among others that actually took time out to give only negative feedback about the Fela section pretty much right after the video was posted. Sorry if you were offended but I was too at the subliminal negativity that has been surrounding the show in general! Thanks
@lmw7987 oh yeah, that awesome opening where the mikes where off at the beginning, they had mikes on while people rehearsed and there were sets falling on people.... there's nothing wrong with this opening, besides that fela is yucky...
Every freakin year the sound and audio is crap ...you would think with all the money they spend to put this on every year they would get sound equipment that actually works
@Moritz015 WELL IF IT WAS GOOD IT WOULD OF GOT ATLEST ONE TONY BUT IT DIRENT SO I THINK THAT MEANS ITS NOT GOOD LIKE MEMPHIS THE MUSICAL IS SO GOOD AND GOT THE TONY FOR BEST MUSICAL
Oh come ON. Sound problems AGAIN??? This happened last year! If a high school production can do it, why can't they do it on national television for ONE NIGHT? Is it lack of proper equipment or proper technicians? Either way this is unacceptable and disrespectful!
Sean Hayes is amazing at the piano!!! I love him!!!!!!!!
I honestly could listen to Sean Hayes play piano forever.
i saw memphis, it deservied that tony! love every second!
I am in love w/ Sean Hayes. The way he plays that piano, the little shoulder movements and facial expressions are just darling. *sigh, another one lost to the gay camp.
Million Dollar Quartet!!!!
the other musical from village theater that i enjoy :) besides N2N...which i miss
can we take a moment to appreciate the women being thrown around in the Come Fly Away bit?
"Memphis" was the only show nominated that had an original score, yet they're the only show that didn't get a number in the opening. If I were them, I'd feel cheated.
Love JGJ! Keep on rocking
Levi and Sean are freakin amazing!!
Kristin and John jr. are my favorites in the whole thing...
and of course Mr. Hayes
Somehow, this just doesn't have feel as magical as previous years...
The opening number to the 2009 tony awards was so much better!!
billy idol will always remain hot
ugh I love it how when billie joe armstrong comes out and he's all like WHAT'S UP NEW YORK CITY!?!!!!
Everyday rapture ahhhh! So simple and yet amazing!
My aunt saw Fela and she said it was really really good
i never saw fela. i never saw million dollar quartet. and i never saw next to normal.
but from learning more about them, i just have to see them, anywhere.
@Elphaba1979 it was adopted into musical during the 80's.... it is actually a great show next to memphis and everyday raptor...
Eurgh... jukebox musicals blow.
John Gallagher Jr
Huey Calhoun is AWESOME!!!
I LOVE Huey Calhoun!!!
John Gallagher jr. is amazing !
I've been watching Broadway and Tony performances for the past 2 hours... Thats healthy isn't it?

Snaps for Sean Hayes.
KRISTIN CHENOWETH . LOVE LOVE LOVE HER
I LOVE SEAN HAYES
@scorpioninpink I like Memphis, but im just not feeling Everyday Raptor, but La cage aux folles is one of the most amazing musicals i have ever seen. I am what i am is my favorite Male Balled next to Stars from Les Mis.
Does anyone else think "Million Dollar Quartet" is kind of like "Jersey Boys?"
oh 2010 tonys opening, what happened after the amazing 2009 opening.
I Love u Chenoweth
I think it would've flowed better if they had stuck the numbers from American Idiot in the middle, kind of how last year they stuck Bret Michaels in the middle. Then again, that might have not been possible because of all the equipment.
I love American Idiot and I love Green Day but i think the cast of the musical should have done this one...
i never quite understood what happened with the mixed up vocals of the fela performance
i like how in the end of Fela her mouth kept moving but nothing came out except that scream. Fail at lipsyncing? lol
Good job guys
after if finish college im gonna go to the tony's and FIX their tech problems :)
From 1:25 to 2:10 when Huey Calhoun is talking, isn't the song "Everybody Wants To Be Black on a Saturday Night" playing in the background?
I don't care what people are saying. GREEN DAY IS FREAKING AMAZING AND YOU NEED TO OPEN YOUR MUSICAL TASTE FURTHER.
I am saying this as a die-hard Broadway fan
MEMPHIS! :D
No idea Sean Hayes played Piano like that?!?!?
@ell0mynameis will they EVER get the sound right at the Tony's?
You know, one would have assumed they would have fixed the sound for this year's TONYS after the FAIL that was last year's sound but... nope. Did anyone else notice how the scary woman from Fela! was not singing the creepy notes that we were hearing, and how the blend in the La Cage part was a fail?

i'm just sorry that isay a little prayer wasnt sung by girls from glee but this is amazing too :D
Did anyone from "the Addams family" perform during the night???
I only caught the last half hour.
i have a maths exam tomorrow
WHAT AM I DOING
BUT
TONY AWARDS
For everyone complaining about Green Day, A) their music made some gorgeous transitions, as 21 Guns proves B) If pop stars/rock stars on the Tonys are so awful, why did Poison perform the year before this? Just accept that Broadway is broadening its sound and is appealing to more people.

But Neil Patrick Harris, on the other hand...
@MysteryGirl411 well their musical was nominated, so I guess they had a good reason
What would a tony awards opening number be without major amounts of sound fails.
that wasn't green day, it was the cast.
Um, Promises Promises, Everyday Rapture, Memphis and La Cage are all RAD.
whoaa what happened to that one lift in come fly away? at like 3:37. aw.
@thewickedboy2012 how is it even close to rent and les mis?
@twilightrox2468 why did they get Dolly Parton and Liza Minnelli in then?
@RandomPersonman Actually, that was a technical error. The wrong microphone was on.
Thing is, Green Day are a fantastic band, and they are amazing to see live, heck ive been to one of their concerts.
But to perform on the Tony Awards is a big massive NO-NO! This is an award ceremony for Theatre, not for bands.
@yukicross199 One of the musicals uses their music.
@kuhll96 no, she and mathew morrison got their own little number
Is it just me, or did Miss Cheno get taller?
@MysteryGirl411 They wrote a musical.
have you ever heard of the American Idiot musical and that Billie played St Jimmy on it? What is this, if not theater.
JGJ
Yeah, yeah i knew that Tony's not for bands... but what i mean or what i want is some RESPECT y'know... so i don't give a sh*t if everyone's saying that Green Day don't "deserve" to be there or blah blah blah... and yeah of course i know how to respect some comments/opinions too... but geez... i saw a lot of comments 'bout that so it's pretty annoying now...
The balance was off with the sound. You couldn't hear the band, only the singing, which is a shame.
@madisonemily18 You should've seen the 2009 Tonys...BEST. EVER.
@sophiaessig Brett Michaels hitting his face on a set piece was A) his own dumb fault, and B) hi-fucking-larious.
What about the fact that at the begining of Electricity, Elton John's mike was off and during the begining of the Luck Be A Lady/Tonight mashup you could hear warm-ups in the background? GREEN DAY
I'm glad American Idiot didn't win for Best Musical.
the tonys are for singers, not people who try to sing.
Green Day will always be amazing even if i dont like @1st century breakdown....
@vorvodoss I KNOW!. but I think a show is not a real show without sound problems ahahaha
@RandomPersonman
what is fela about.....
@jaygaarder I agree
@thewickedboy2012 So I looked through the comments to say who said American Idiot was a copy of Rent and *incredulously* Les Mis. And I'm sorry. That's stupid. I saw it. it was incredible.
@lyras12 it's the brown note xD
The techs suck every year its like really turn mics on at the right time lol
@ImNotThere100 the ONE comment I saw actually talking about the technical aspect was written only a week ago. I responded to people like lyras12 among others that actually took time out to give only negative feedback about the Fela section pretty much right after the video was posted. @karatechik713 SAME HERE!!! i saw him in american idiot...oh my god I ALMOST DIED
3:49 - 3:51 the bald guy; the thing he does, i can't remember what it is called... is there a legit name for it or what?
Does Kristen look a little skinner than usual to anyone???
It kind of concerns me actually.
@vorvodoss THATS WHAT BROADWAY MEANS THEY DONT DO PLAYBACK LIKE ALL SHOWS DO>
...why is green day at the tony awards?
It was just a bad year for Broadway.

@guadaphobiax3SP ...and broadway in general!
lots of audio problems!
@arnelakawhitewash not at all. everyday rapture and promises, promises, not to mention la cage aux folles killed it!!!
i bet all of the drag queens are blokey dudes off stage
Oh come ON. Sound problems AGAIN??? This happened last year! If a high school production can do it, why can't they do it on national television for ONE NIGHT? Is it lack of proper equipment or proper technicians? Either way this is unacceptable and disrespectful!
GREEN DAY :)
last year was sooooo much better...
@starletdawn HOCKADOO!!!
seriously tony awards? green day? seriously?
