    Hasn't convinced me on the glove, but the second method is awesome. It was my first time fileting a fish of any kind and it worked out perfectly.

    I'm from cape cod . Love to try fresh pike and trout. I grew up eating stripe bass and cod along with bay scallop and clam. The occasional lobster was good

    Thank you i think this method works the best i think in the next video you should clean a lake trout.

    Do you gut the pike first with these methods? I like the second one. We ate many pike as kids and we always dreaded the y-bones.

    • @moonsmilelucide
      @moonsmilelucide 10 лет назад

      No the guts are still in and remain untouched, if you are skilled with the knife removing the guts is a waste of time to get the filet's. If you let's say want to grill the whole fish like with trout or want to have nice chunks of salmon (where you cut the fish through the middle) you remove the guts first.

    Yes. my man. two ways to do it. and if fillet enough fish you will get a fillet glove. it’s worth the protection. I got the Rapala one. I love my Rapala products. I have fished 62 years and love it. the Great outdoors. :-)

    Well done, thanks. A little different from the way I do it but I am always looking for a better way to skin a cat. Yes some waste, but it is a difficult fish, and one (in my opinion) that should be kept.

  • @zapblam
    @zapblam 11 лет назад +1

    I use the second way now. Both ways worked well. No bones means kids and wife will eat fish. With bones, no fish. Pick the battle and accept some waste.

  • @PastorPeewee20
    @PastorPeewee20 9 лет назад +2

    ok watching this obviously the 2nd way seems much more fillet meat is on the fillet but I am curious if and 8 know this would probably take a long time but for even maybe as much meat as possible, why not start filleting like normal I guess like the 1st way you showed but instead of removing that thick long piece with all the Bones why not get some pliers or tweezers pluck out the bones? maybe even something for the kids to do but end up completely boneless and tons more meat ?

    • @iliketurtles8329
      @iliketurtles8329 8 лет назад

      +Pastor Peewee that might work. You should try that and post it on youtube. But the second method would Probably get more meat regardless

    • @crystalscherer
      @crystalscherer 8 лет назад

      +Pastor Peewee Have you ever tried to pluck bones from raw pike fillets? It is nearly impossible. Sure they pull out easily once cooked, but not when raw. It is a lot like trying to get the bone out of a turkey drumstick raw vs well cooked.

    • @iliketurtles8329
      @iliketurtles8329 8 лет назад

      +Crystal S how about a salmon I just plucked a few bones out of a raw croaker fillet with the skin on

    • @crystalscherer
      @crystalscherer 8 лет назад

      +BudderWarriors Good question, I have no experience with saltwater originating fish. I have filleted a lot of pike in the past though, I have never seen the bones come out easily with them? (PS. if my previous comment came across as sarcastic, it was not meant that way)

    • @iliketurtles8329
      @iliketurtles8329 8 лет назад

      +Crystal S what is the question

  • @cf6285

    Try placing your filet with the rib bones removed inside up. Begin at the front and perpendicular to the filet cut down almost thru filet until you feel your knife not cutting bones anymore. Do this about every quarter inch with your knife at bout a 60 degree angle through the "Y" bone area.. Fry your fish and you tell me where the "y" bones went.

  • @taylorfluffy746
    @taylorfluffy746 11 лет назад +1

    So the first technique gets you 2 fillets... The 2nd one gets you more? More is better for me :3

  • @dwightgordon9354
    @dwightgordon9354 9 лет назад

    The first method is the one I have been using. With a little bit of work you can get closer to the y-bones than he did with the knife and waste virtually no meat. There is one other method I have seen that seems to get good results, but I haven't managed to get it right yet. The second method this guy used was just horrifying. More efficient? No way. Faster, yes, but efficiency is more than just speed. That was a BUNCH of meat he left behind in that fish. Has anyone seen any other methods that are worth looking at? I'm always on the lookout for a better, more effective one.

    lol learn how to eat Pike! Fry the entire Fillet. When its cooked take your fork and pull off the bottom 2 inches. ALl the Y bones will be sticking out. Pull them out and then you have Boneless Pike..0% wasted meat.

    yes. I am eating pike right now. I am fished pikes for all of my life and I still do. I am filleting about 200 pikes for my personal use every year. or much much more if I sell them. I am sorry but that method really is too slow and complicated and there still is too much waste.
