My strategy: Always zoom out so you can see your neighbouring countries, whether that country is far or not. Doing this at any stage of the game can give you the informational advantage since some people don't zoom out often. At the final stage of the first game, you had the zoom out to see the whole map since North America was technically your neighbor. I understand you zoomed in to hop into islands but you can still click it even if you didn't zoom in. Thanks for the content as always CG!

One thing you can try is to attack the guy in South America from Antarctica, that way you can get a significant portion of South America as well when that player collapses, you can enter Antarctica from either Africa or Australia

i think you should just boat to really small island, like a few pixels and when you get the occasion, you have a land near it to get it quickly

Make sure to conquer Greenland fairly early so you have a convenient bridge to invade North America when you need to. :3

My strategy: if you control Russia or Europe, take over the islands just outside Greenland and then you can take over that as fast as possible. You can’t really do anything else except focus on Australia and move south so you can compete with that land

personally I do use the small islands near Noth America, but often it they are discovered and taken away from me. So there is no perfekt solution for ur problem. But having tiny islands is the only one I can come up with.😅😅(as an answer for ur question at start)
