It will not burn for a long time, the wick must be horizontal, not vertical, then it will not burn out and completely absorb the oil. Look how the ancient oil lamps are arranged, where the wick always comes out from the side.

It must be Kerosene instead vegetable oil, look at video, vegetable oil doesn't catch fire easy like on video on this thick wick, only on a thin wick vegetable oil can catch fire fast like this, and vegetable oil doesn't rise well more than one inch about oil level.
I have one vegetable oil lamp, a mineral oil lamp and a kerosene lamp, I know the difference between this fuels.

No 😂 cheap ones lay on the side the expensive olive oil lamps sit up straight and use carbon felt wicks which wick thick oil like it’s water

Put 90 % of the wick in a circle in the bottom of the can ( emersed in the oil ). It will burn slower. The exposed part of the wick should not be long. Keep it short.

What disturbs me about this, is apparently drink cans like this, have a thin layer of plastic to separate them from the drink, so no reaction with the metal. I wonder what happens to that layer doing this. Is it more dangerous to breathe then the fumes? Will it ruin the reflective back for the flame? How will it react with the oil?

It's a kerosene lamp, there's no way vegetable oil work on this lamp, and besides, vegetable oil doesn't catch fire fast and easily like it does on kerosene, without a doubt it's kerosene on video, can use diesel too, it also works well, better S10 diesel than S100 diesel (less soot).
Vegetable oil doesn't rise more than one inch.
