Beautiful thing about the Iowa City area is, if Iowa City doesn't fit you, you have nearby options that might fit better, and vice versa. I've lived in Cedar Rapids and Marion. Loved both of those
Why were there parking meters on almost every city street when I was there today? Also I parked in a lot I thought was fine to do so, but it had a sign stating " will be towed at owners expense lol " it looked like the many with some sort of make shift shelter didn't mind lol
You must have been parking in the downtown area? The parking in the downtown district is metered. There are some lots that are not public parking (like next to the City Administration/police station building).
I’ve heard Cedar Rapids is one of the few blue areas in the state, I’m sure Des Moines also is. It’s mostly true what you said about cities being blue and smaller areas red. The few times I’ve seen a red city area are Boise-ID, Tulsa-OK, Fort Worth-TX, and Jacksonville-FL.
Is davenport a good place to live in if your work is there? Or is it better to live in nearby towns? Which ones are good place to live in if you work in davenport? Thanks
There's a Realtor in Davenport that has begun to make RUclips videos kind of like mine about his area. His name is Alex Skeen. Reach out to him or watch his videos! ruclips.net/channel/UCcY5azm9BuUSIw6jskVDU3A
Your cars suspension will thank you for not moving there. Imagine driving through a minefield. That’s the entire area😂 illinois side is worse. Downtown at night looks like a 1920’s horror film.
My wife wants too move to Iowa. I dont but I'm gonna have to now because her mom is sick. Iowa is nice but I can't handle the country side. I love the city life much more. What do you do for fun?
Iowa is not all country. As long as your moving to one of our larger cities you should be fine…unless your expectations are similar to someplace really big like Chicago, LA, New York, etc.
Iowa City is a very diverse and liberal community, and Iowa has been a progressive state since it’s beginning. While the rural counties are conservative, Iowa has a place for everyone with great opportunities to grow and prosper. If you can keep an open mind, regardless of the side of the spectrum you may be on, Iowa is a great place to live.
If you truly want to understand this state you need to understand what it's like in small towns here. Which are so dark red that they stink like... something brown. If you find yourself physically or financially vulnerable as a progressive in a small town loaded up with election deniers you'll come under fire first. Extremists only gain confidence by attacking the most vulnerable people and these "Iowa City progressives" don't go out of their way to protect them. Vulnerable progressives in small town Iowa are most often targeted by city officials first. Election deniers, racist extremists, religious extremists, and the like seek out positions as small town mayors, police chiefs, city council members, and anything else that gives authority away to them. So if you're poor "it will serve you right" and don't be surprised if you have problems with your water, sewer, trash collection, or anything else controlled by the municipalities.
What's your definition of progressive? I can tell you if it's instability and absurd and irrational concepts with zero definitions, I don't want it here and I will actively push against it here. If you can't define the concepts that you support then you don't deserve to have a voice or an opinion. Which is about 99% of progressives
As a regular conservative person i sure aint moving to overly liberal areas plus we see what all this progressive liberal garbage is about nowdays just look to AOC and her squad
Good job, Iowa, I am voting RED too, never again voting blue.

Yes, it is great the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids are in such close proximity to each other because they each offer different qualities.
Lol! Minneapolis here! Real cold in Iowa City? Nope! I miss Iowa City so much! Left in 1976. Magical place!
Iowa city is dead after school is out for the summer.
RED STATE!!!!!
Oh Lord here we go🤦
…
Yeah it’s good to live in a place that has laws that match your lifestyle, I always consider whether a states laws match what I want.
Purple state, it always has been!
So
Iowa City has some real friendly people.

@EmilyFarber lol sure yea most cities have meters but Iowa City went a bit overkill
Cities always tend to be liberal. Rural and suburbs are typically conservative. I wonder what desmoines,Cedar Rapids, and other cites are there.

Is there any hint of Libertarianism in Iowa City?

Bettendorf is great and it's adjacent to davenport.

Davenport is a shit hole

Where’s the American flag in your thumbnail? It is Iowa, not CA lol

OK sure but California has diversity but not liberalism gone insane

Thank you for this honest breakdown. It is so helpful to have an idea of what places are like before really diving in. 😀
Exactly! I’m happy to hear you found the video helpful. 😊
Get ready freaks be everywhere been here 70 years so must be a freak myself 😮
Don’t go to the city find a small town
State income tax is a deal breaker. Sorry Iowa.
As a progressive-leaning liberal who is from the "other half" of the state, I can only dream of living in such a place!

Uh oh
Ya'll need to face it. There is nothing about the GOP that could be remotely classified as "conservative" anymore.
Take it from someone living in a blue state. Democrats ruin everything!!!
I live here most people don't agree with pride from who I know
Trump 2024
I guess this just tells me I won't be in Iowa city much
