I'm the big head in the middle of the frame (that was actually recorded by a friend of mine). This is the second concert after her return while René was sick, but still alive. Not this one night, but all the nights had "I Surrender" 100% live, how do I know that? I've been to the first 4 concerts of that season and that friend had been to the first 8... I also returned to the 2 New Year's concerts and so on... the thing is that she doesn't go any single bit out of the script so it's really hard to notice differences between one performance to another. But this specific night is a proof that it's all live, until 3:21 everything is perfect (and sounds the same) as always, but at this moment she gets emotional and cries (pay attention to the raspy voice), and after that she stops singing and misses the lyrics and the whole point of the thing, ruining the song actually. Just to remind you, there are 2 teleprompters with the lyrics, so forgetting it is not a big deal. We were all commenting "What happened to her?" "She got totally lost". Before criticising so much remember the personal context of this moment, she was not emotionally 100% and this song might have been too strong and personal to what she was going through...
Thanks for your comment. Even though you definitely know it better because you were there (and I wasn't), I still think August 29th was the only day when Celine sang I Surrender live. At least, live recordings and bootlegs make me think so. Anyway, it's not a big deal. For me this particular performance is the best rendition of I Surrender she's ever done. It's true, passionate and sincere. A thousad times better than perfectly-autotuned playback version.
She's sung a lot of live music at the opening night so she must have to rest her voice, specially the my heart will go on, and not to mention the All By Myself. Credits to the legend, ofc she wants to preserve her voice.
Before deciding to do it live, Celine definitely would have done a few run throughs of the song prior. And probably did every high note or else she wouldn't have done this live like this. She still has it. What happened here, is everything is different on the stage, nerves take over and everything. What happened (my logic) is that Celine felt like she was gonna crack if she went for more high notes, her voice probably felt exhausted especially because of the nerves... opening night she is always very nervous. So that's why she avoided the high note. At one point with vocal exhaustion you just start yelling words out and hope for the best, so she was also resting her vocal chords when she wasn't singing. Everything's different on stage... rehearsal can be perfect, and the actual performance might not be! The nerves and stress just cause your shoulders to go stiff and your jaw to feel stiff, and then you're putting in a lot more effort than usual to sing, it happennssss.. anyways, that one high note at the beginning was pure genius, I wish the playback track had that as well.
Also you can't say "she can't hit the high notes anymore" because just listen to The Reason live 2017, and Think Twice... both very vocally demanding songs... The Reason is even more vocally demanding than this and she did it live 4-5 times!
Have You Heard The Rare Performance Excerpt From March 25th 2003 ?? She 100% sang the whole thing live and im serious. The super long second one was ended 1 or 2 seconds short but the first high note then the long opener note and the end note (6 seconds) were all live. And it was amazing its on youtube i think and or Celine Dion forum
whatever it is lip sync or live it doesnt change how i dearly admire this very talented woman.i ve watch the other videos of this she sang in 2018 still d best.i thnk this is the time that his husband is still sick..
Every single video of Celine's you have all these people commenting how she lip syncs. If she lips I, Surrender then she wouldn't need to put her mic down and miss some notes like she does here. If she is having a bad vocal day she can just lip the song. I'm not saying Celine never lip syncs (we've all seen her TV specials), but this is in late 2015 and her husband was literally dying right in front of her every day. He passed away like only six months after this. All of the performances around this time and until her husband's death were not as good as she normally is. But then after her husband passed away, her performances started to get better again. Now, she is back at the top of her game.
Funny enough - beside the missing two high notes the rest sounds exactly the same like the previous recorded ones if not even better which is a proof that she is easily capible of singing the pre recorded versions
hawk eye Absolutely! Makes you wish she’d done with this what she did with All By Myself and My Heart Will Go On in later shows, perform it live with a little vocal support on the bigger, power notes.
@Matin 1029 actually it isn't hard to Believe at all 😂 Good singers find other ways to handle vocal fatigue as well as the stress of touring. Celine may have just found a new way to support her voice better. And with her level of discipline its not at all hard to belive that she would be strict on herself to ensure she's able to sustain her improvements
@@alexbodi5526 I can’t believe she didn’t do it during the a new day has come tv special in 2002. She was in top shape and imagine if she had Beyoncé sing if her on that song.
Y’all have it wrong! All the other ones are pre-recorded, that’s the only full version live begin to end. Even with the 1st round 03-07, there is no real proofs of any live... at the end, we still all love her.
As much as I hate to admit this, she does lip-synch. I'm a big fan of hers and I had the opportunity to see her in Vegas. I wish I could prove you wrong, but I can't. I don't know about the rest of the songs, but "I Surrender" is definitely pre-recorded, with the exception of some parts of this show (August 29th, 2015): First verse: live; Then, pre-recorded till 2:50; Live from 2:50 till 4:06; From 4:06 till the very last high note: pre-recorded.
Juan Pablo Yes but I'm confused now haha. There are some parts that sound very very similar to the pre-recorded track but on the other hand she doesn't sing some others which are included in the track. The final note is definitely live though
Juan Pablo actually no..... this specific performance is 100% life and she couldn’t sing the big note because the pre recorded track wasn’t being played that time....... but in 2016-2018 this song is fully lipped except the first verse and last verse. That’s the truth.
A truly amazing talent she is. However for about the last 10 years she has been loosing the signature sound and control of her voice. Most of her love performamces have either been pre recorded vocals that she lip syncs to. And on the few she does truly sing live they Key of the song has been dropped a couple steps to make the “high” notes more easily obtainable. However in the more recent years all her shows have done is showcase Just how worn her voice gotten from literally thousand of performances over the years. So while she isn’t the same my comments are in no way to detract from how many amazing performances she has done live over the years and sung everything flawlessly.
I'll tell you why it happened. While I was compressing the video the audio went out-of-synch. I wasn't able to fix it. I took this extract from a larger video (more than 1.5 hours) and large videos filmed unprofessionally and then uploaded on RUclips usually have such problems. That was the only night when she didn't lip that song. It's true
I remember being there this show, it was the one show I was in front orch for the first night i figured was lipped, but was wrong about the ending. figured she did that live like in AND but she didnt . I thought it sounded live well into the chorus but wasn't sure for a little bit more.... man I go on my feet and started cheering during the bridge cuz I knew it was live ans wanted her to go for it. but it's okay, I'm sure if she had actually planned to do the song live it would have sounded better. the only reason it sounded as decent as it did was because she recently did the playback for it shortly before.
I guess she wanted to do it live and planned it. Maybe it's like All By Myself - she does it live at the beginning of every new show/tour. Anyway I'm sure that if she didn't skip the high notes and went for them it would have sounded well. Maybe she's just afraid of making mistakes...
The only time she ever lip it was for tv taped performances, where it was a schedule problem to sing live, with rehearsals and shit, and probably the producers request. When she sings live, she sings live. Theres no conspiracy here, she doesn't record one note in case she can't hold it, and sometimes they play the recording sometimes they dont. ur theory is crazy stupid. Celine's voice is the best because of that, because she holds notes perfectly for up to 15 seconds, and she always sing on tune. Believe what you want, but when she sings live, she doesn't lip. If you think other wise, bring proof.
I'm just curious, is this video to show that she can't sing that long live note anymore? because she paused and didnt sing and let the music play. she admitted she can't hit the notes anymore right?
+Robert Grant I posted this video to highlight the only truly live performance of this song. Definitely not to insult Celine in any way. All the other performances are either partially or fully lip-synced. She hit the first high note (D#5) quite well (after "and they will see"). Then she was probably feeling unconfident and decided not to attempt to sing the long note. It was live and I'm thankful that she sang the song live anyway that night. Of course she is aging, her vocal cords are becoming less flexible and powerful. Though she is still capable of doing amazing vocal things
+Ilya Gulenkov it makes sense. I totally respect her and love her for this. and don't worry I didn't mean to come across rude if I did I was just curious! and also this video shows that she's very human! she's the best. I was just in Vegas (if u saw from instagram) and I met her son!!! but I'm going back to Vegas soon to see her live in the coliseum :)
Robert Grant I actually replied to your first comment without being aware of who wrote it :) so it's ok. Yes, I saw your pics from Instagram. Was kinda jealous when I saw the one taken near Caesar's Palace :D. You're a lucky one to be able to see her during the next Vegas run. I'm also lookind forward to discovering the new series of shows (via Internet of course), hope her voice recovers after the French tour. Judging by the videos from Quebec, I can say that such a tremendous number of concerts is really too much for her.
+Ilya Gulenkov aw that's cute haha :) yeah it was nice to see where she has her stage. there were so many photos of her in Vegas and advertisements! she's the queen of Vegas! I hated seeing Mariah Carey all over the place while Celine is gone. hahaha and yeah I'm curious what Celines show will be like when she returns soon to Vegas! she needs to rest her voice for sure. I hope she sounds good still :/
Robert Grant My hopes are that she changes the setlist a little bit, but this is highly unlikely to happen. Anyway, in a recent French interview she said that if she renews the Vegas contract (after 2019, I guess. Sounds crazy :D), she will deliver an absolutely different kind of show. Probably now she is really more into making the career decisions
So glad her Vegas residency is coming to an end... She "did" (in quotation because a lot of it was lipped) more than 1000 shows and it's a bit inhumane, in my opinion. Céline is a legend, she's my favorite artist, but all the lipping is very disappointing. Any lip synch is too much lip synch and I know a lot of artists are doing it, but they are frauds too.
After all, this performance is so honest , really good vocal moments. #Queen
