I was told to go halter my school school. He was eating. Ooh my, for a newbie like me I was a joke to him. I tried to hand feed him for him to lift his head up, I kept trying to lift his head. I spent a good 30 minutes with this horse. I wanted to cry. A girl that works on the barn told me I had the wrong horse. Whoops. I cried inside. I embarrassedly walked to the correct horse. SHE gracefully let me halter her. Wow, but I sure played the stupid role to a T.

I used to watch a particular family horse vlog. Younger girl always tried to put the nose in first, then struggled to get the crown piece on. I always wondered why no one taught her to do it with this method, seems it would be much easier for a little girl dealing with full size horses.

I always watch people talking about doing it this way but the thing is is I am very short, and a very tall horse so I can't really reach over their neck. So thats what I always wondered.

Why not train horses to back up using target training? Teach a horse to put their noses in the halter using positive reinforcement.

that's great but in the veterinary field we deal with people who don't train their animals all the time. I've only worked with dogs and cats so far, but you wouldn't believe the amount of people who never even trained their dog to sit 🤦‍♀️

Use a rope halter not a web halter.

Touching the horse to get him to move is not necessary. Use your body language to tell the horse to move.

@@akbarnamdari2463 You will mimic what horses do. Horses 'talk' with their body language to other horses. You would do the same. I would need to show you. One thing to practice is active communication and passive communication.
