- This was one of the hardest videos I've ever created simply because of how much this game means to me. It was truly a passion project and incredibly difficult for me to cut this playthrough down to an hour. While I was drawn into the franchise with Kingdom Hearts 1, KH2 is what solidified this series as one of my favorites to ever exist. It's been such a long time since I've been so touched by a game.
This is one of my favorite documented playthroughs and Kingdom Hearts 2 is one of my favorite games ever. I really wanted to do it justice with this video, I hope you enjoy my journey ;-;

@@tarekatorr I played the game so the cutscenes in between the frustration didn't impact me as hard as they should've. But rewatching the cutscenes had me sobbing, especially going back after finishing the current series. Such a beautifully tragic story in some cases
I want to tell you that Kingdom has manga, and the manga it gets you more tiers than the game, more context and more stuff than the game can give you :'D
You know, if you take "days", turn the 'd' upside down, twist the 's' into an 'n' and replace the 'y' with an 'i' (because they rhyme), you get "pain"!
You may think I'm stretching, but Nomura sure didn't.
@@elizasworld184 It does... But some stuff it gets wrong and there is a raaaather reoccuring set of comical running jokes that are almost played too seriously. The light novels completely flip some stuff upside down (besides the obligatory "can't include certain Disney worlds due to legal reasons" SDG only visit the Disney worlds at the time they REVISIT them in the game. However, there is a good bit of context too, such as what Axel/Riku/Naminé/DiZ were up to at certain times (main thing being why Axel was *fatally* wounded prior to his helping Sora get to TWTNW)

People make fun of Kingdom Hearts' writing, sometimes for good reason, but the opening to Kingdom Hearts 2 is the most emotionally draining experience Ive ever had playing JRPGs. Every single thing that happens is gut wrenching.
Liza Minelli. When KH 2 was first released you had no idea the weight of who Roxas actually was. We literally knew Roxas for like an hour or 2. No way you could become that attached

@@RobinsAssistant She didn't know who Roxas was playing this either, she watched 358 after this. So yes, it is possible. I was extremely sad for Roxas my first time through. That scene where Namine said "you weren't supposed to exist" and he said "How could you say that...even if it IS true?" hit me like a fucking truck due to some of the things I had been going through at the time. Sometimes it's better not to know some harsh truths.
@@RobinsAssistant that's kind of what makes it work so well actually. You don't know who he is but by the end of the intro you become attatched to him and his friends while realizing that he and Sora can't exist at the same time.
It's great cuz
1. If you didn't play Chain of Memories, you're essentially in the same position as Roxas: "Where tf am I, who tf is this, wtf is happening"
2. Roxas will either get you attached or go past your radar, depending if you think he was cool or not, but either way you end up feeling bad knowing summer vacation was...over
3. When you come back to it, it just hits like a truck

God I love these games
My favorite part about the Roxas fight is that he fights HARD. That boy wants so bad to live and it is just gut wrenching that you gotta win that fight.
He's also full on berserk.

@@TheUltimateRare ur not alone over there, I’ve enjoyed Atlantica in KH1 so much. It was unique, it was enjoyably adventurous with all of those mazy locations and Ariel as a party member, she was bada$$ to fight with. Yea, we are one of those rare people to like this world

I'm sure there are plenty of character analyses out there, but it'd be interesting to compare Sora to Riku, to Kairi, to his Nobodies, etc. just to see how well this idea is reflected. I might do this myself with the character themes.

Kingdom hearts is a series about nostalgia and how our memories shape us. It’s silly and often kinda dumb but it succeeds in its dreamlike melancholy.
Back on the Island Kairi reintroduces the boys after such a long time away:
Kairi: “So this is my boyfriend Sora and next to him is Sora’s boyfriend Riku.”

Same. Its honestly a beautiful ending to what I consider the OG era of kingdom hearts. After KH2 is when the story really started to expand, for better or worse, but I feel like KH1, COM, Days and KH2 make for a beautiful complete story with a beginning, middle and end.

I can’t believe I’ve never noticed Axel crying when he said goodbye to Roxas.
I'll never forget the first time i played KH2's prologue. Roxas sacrifice going back to Sora stayed with me throughout my entire first playthrough. I just kept hoping Roxas would get some kind of closure and not be trapped in a limbo like state of being inside Sora forever always aware of what they gave up. It just nearly broke me thinking of that throughout the whole game as Sora blissfully unaware kept having a good time.

Glad he’s grown into his shoes. Haha

I know that a lot of people find the whole Riku looks like Ansem thing stupid and weird, but I always thought it was a great representation of how his experiences have aged him and forced him to grow up too fast.
yeah, that wasn't so bad, but the story definitely jumped the shark though, it became way too convoluted and nonsensical for its own good, it really lost its way.. even the metal gear storyline doesn't go off the rails as much as the KH story does

Every keyblade is a token of the friendships Sora Makes on his journey. Oathkeeper represents Kairi, and Oblivion represents Riku. In Kh1, you get Oblivion in the room you defeat Riku for the last time, and obviously, Oathkeeper is the lucky charm Kairi gives you. In kh2, You get Oathkeeper when Sora reminisces on the promise he made to KAiri to bring it back, and here you get Oblivion when you reunite with Riku.
It also appears that those are the 2 keyblades that Roxas dual wields because of Soras connection to Riku and Kairi. That was well thought out.
@@schuylersilverstein1935 and the Bond of Flame keyblade represents roxas’s connection to axel so whenever I fight roxas I make sure to use it because it’s just too appropriate

The scene in days where the 2 kingdom keys transform made me think this way cause I figured each kingdom key was their individual connections to sora. Meaning that one belonged to roxas and the other one was xion’s then they became their own thing in response to Roxas’ resolve

I'm so excited to finally see your KH2 journey. Kingdom Hearts 2 was there for me at a rough teenage year for me and means so much to me. I'll never forget sobbing at the conclusion and my mom just holding me through it. Thank you for sharing this journey with us.
This is by far the greatest game to exist, The way that emotion is conveyed is wholesome. Has been my favorite game series since 2002.
Ive played a plethara of games in my life. But nothing has touched me more than kingdom hearts. Playing as a kid it was a fun adventure and as an adult its emotional when you understand the deepr meanings more clearly

After the kh1 video i watched all of the vods for the rest of the kingdom hearts series and something that SHOULDNT be understated is how leigh was like lvl 32 for the marluxia fight and like mid 40s for the sephiroth fight, TRULY EPIC

I spent countless hours as a kid just riding around Twilight Town on that skateboard. The sound of the of that jump is seared into my memory haha. Glad you loved the game. It's one of my favorites and it makes me very happy that people are still experiencing it for the first time. Cheers!

kh2 really is pain, but its so so good. every time i replay the game i do it on critical and just have an absolute blast with it
I wanna finish the franchise before coming back to Kingdom Hearts 2, but I’m having a bit of a hard time with their “really important story elements on the random system of the day” design philosophy they had going after KH2.

I truly appreciate your earnest and sincere emotional reactions to these games. There's so much in Kingdom Hearts that makes it easy to want to write off the whole experience with a sense of ironic detachment, but watching you fully engage with the story is so great. It reminds me of my first time playing them as a child.

Watching someone play kingdom hearts for the first time really pulls my childhood heart strings. These will always be my favorite games. And given I’ve played them so many times they’re obviously not new to me anymore so seeing them be new to someone else and their reactions almost brings out that magic from my childhood of playing the first time

I come back to your Kingdom Hearts reactions all the time and it actually fills me with so much joy. Kingdom hearts has been apart of my life for over 20 years, it was honestly the first really important thing to me. It's Incredibly cathartic to see someone get emotional at the same places in the story. You likely won't see this but thank you.
I've never seen someone feel this hard at some of these cheesey games I love, this is why I'm so hype about these channel uploads. Leigh feels SO MUCH for games' emotional narrative, all the dorkiness and hamminess of the content aside.

KH2 holds a special place in my heart and remains my favorite game in the Kingdom Hearts series to this day. Sora leaving twilight town is one of the most emotional and beautiful moments of the series imo, everything from the meaning to the tear to the music choice is all so much

Ah, yes, one of the best parts of a new KH game: listening to the new version of Dearly Beloved on the title screen before playing.
This was very beautiful seeing you go through all those emotional moments. From the biggest plot developments to the smallest gameplay changes, it reminds me of when I played KH2 with my sister after it just dropped in 2006 for us. Thank you.

I was so jealous of you through this whole thing. I've played this so many times I rush through everything with some speedrun strats and skip all the cut-scenes. To experience it truly fresh for the first time would be such a gift. Great vid!

As someone who played this game many times religiously as a kid, this video gave me laughs, joy, and teary eyed the way you reacted to a lot of the scenes since it’s your first time playing this game! It was definitely a treat rewatching KH2 again bringing back good ol memories I wish I could relive.
