Lol just put his character in WITSEC, maybe he witnessed a crime so horrific that he got death threats after testifying so he had to be placed in witsec and its only now in 2024 he's safe enough to return to Emmerdale city. Idk just an idea I thought of😂😂😂
@@VHSandVinylCollectorif Fraser who played Joe wanted to comeback with the right idea from the producers and writers it could happen. Obviously only family he has is Victoria but it would have to be a great reason for his comeback
It was a really stupid decision to kill Joe off, and he should've been brought back after a couple of years. But he was a very tired character in 1994 and it was right to write him out at that point
Chloe Jones I agree, but by early 1995 Emmerdale had completely changed, it had removed itself from the farm era completely by then, 1994 was still rather familiar even after the plane crash, the plane crash to me is part of the Farm era (1972-1994) I too wish Joe hadn’t been killed off, creatively it was a daft decision I would have reintroduced him a few years later in the early 2000s, of course I wouldn’t have killed off Rachel either, having Jack on his own kinda ruined his character Joe was needed to balance out the dynamic between them, and Rachel was a Bridge between the older generation (Jack and Sarah) and the younger generation (Robert, Andy, Victoria) also they wouldn’t have put so much on Kathy in the late 90s which essentially burned her out as a character
@@JayJay-nc7pr A lot of very good points there. I think it was Glenda McKay's decision to leave though. Too much damage was done to the Sugdens between the plane crash and Joe's exit, and they never really recovered from it. Killing Mark off was stupid for a start; Kate could've been recast and come back, maybe patched things up with Joe. But Emmerdale just weren't interested in repairing the past
Chloe Jones Agreed, killing Mark was daft, especially as they had killed off Jackie a few years earlier, there needed to be more “middle generation” Sugden’s by the 1990s, Mark was coming into his own by 1993 and he would have only grown further throughout the decade, I still probably would have written him out around 1996, I don’t see how Mark could have gone into the 2000s, Rachel on the other hand could have carried on into the mid 2000s for me, she had longevity, if Glenda wanted to go I would have had her live in Spain with Annie for a while then brought her back around the time Kathy left in late 2001, then had her get involved with the Kings, Kathy was great but again they gave her too much to do by the late 1990s, especially after Rachel & Sarah both left
@@JayJay-nc7pr They did over rely on Kathy for drama, and all her links to the past gradually disappeared one by one. The problem with Kathy is that her character was almost completely driven by being in love with men. Once the men ran out, so did she!
Killing off an iconic character like Joe when the actor wanted to remain was madness - the door should have been left open for his return.
Still could happen. Characters have returned from the dead in other soaps so to speak

Joe should not have been killed off.
Emmerdale developed a bad habit of unnecessarily killing off characters instead of giving them a happy ending and joe deserved one.
Should kept the Joe Sugden character
Quite agree - crazy decision to get rid of him.
The great days before the unrealistic dingles took over

Chloe Jones absolutely true about Kathy, if you had the power what would you have done with Emmerdale from 1995 onwards?
Jaime better know how to pay his medical bills when the Doctor is not around lol
Ha
