Hi Andy, as a child (I’m 73 now)we were regular visitors to Normandy, my gran lived in what I believed was called Green Lane. It ran from where the village shop was. The cottages are still there but have been converted.
The village, had a wheelwright/joiners shop, a blacksmiths,a butchers, and the white building, near the corner, was a religious meeting house, and, at one time, had a brickworks!. Also, a village hall, at the top of beck hill, now delmolished, that had, reputedly, one of the best dance floors around,Oh, and opposite the shop, was a milliners shop, ran, by the Keyworths.
Been asked this before. I'm not using a drone for two reasons. 1. There's a guy on RUclips who does that already. I don't want to step on his toes. 2. There are a ridiculous amount of people out there who hate them flying close to/above their property This way as well, I can get close to stuff
I would imagine its to do with water. Lots of springs in the area so they likely developed along where water could be sourced. Also, the A15, the former Roman Road. Most of these places connect to that via a long lane (and have "Cliff" areas to the West at which point the join the Lincoln Cliff). Educated guesses but I don't think they'd be far off
NORMANBY BY SPITAL ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

I believe the wheelwrights you refer to is near the corner. I swear I remember seeing the word "Wheelwright" on one of those cottages
Hi Andy
I like your village tours brilliant. I think if you use a drone will make it easier to navigate some areas . What do you think

@@TheVillageIdiot I looooove your clips, a massive thank you!
P.S I wonder if there is any connection to Normandy Hall about 5 miles outside Scunthorpe
Just a thought
Thou spelling is different.
I would imagine there might. "Norman" being present in both could be a clue
Do you know why Normanby by Spital Civil parish and other nearby parishes are horizontally long and vertically short?
