A handful a years ago, my dad and I stopped at a corner bar, I was all of 14 years old, and my dad handed me a quarter and said play something from the jukebox son, and I said like what dad, and said awe just push some buttons, ok dad will do, and by a stroke of luck, flip Wilson came on and the whole bar broke out in laughter, the bar tender gave a free round to everyone and gave me a free soda, I'll never forget that day, thank you mr. What a beautiful Presentation and Performance by Miss Black America. "My Soul's Been Anchored in the Lord." We should all pray that our souls are anchored in the Lord.
Last nite, bc the heating unit blew, and no one would be available to fix it bc it was Christmas Day, we all sat around the living room, near the fireplace. Somebody started talking about our Christmas gatherings of times past, and the topic turned to favorite tv shows, and we had quite a lively conversation about Flip and his show. Then, somebody pulled out a few decks of cards, and suddenly, we had a full-blown Carlotta tournament brewing. It was a magical night. RIP, Flip, and thanx so very much, for the magic, music, and memories.
That’s when we had real comedians!! I miss Georgia and Flip! I remember when he did Laugh-IN for the first time! was 12 or so. I couldn’t quit laughing! I’m so glad I hat the people that have channels like this one have Flip and many of the comedians so we enjoy them in “my old age” anyway!
Both men! So very far ahead of their time! Would that we had their amazing wit and talent today... maybe we would be less in dire straight and have a more accepting and beautifully healthy planet. 💜💜💜
I had the fortune of meeting and spending about 20 minutes after the taping of a show with Mr.Wilson. I was nervous but asked, "can I have a kiss", which I planted on his cheek. He said can I have a kiss and he kissed my cheek. He gave me his autograph on a studio envelope which I still have. It was awesome! I was 15 yrs old
At the start of George Carlons comedy career he had a lovely woman named Dianne Richards- Reese who resided in Newark California. They both were super talents and die all to soon. Love them 💕always!
I don't mean to sound corny but it is great to see such talent; black and white preform in front of an audience; black and white; young and old, and have things just be fun. This is America at its best!!! Wilson, Carlin, Namath and the top 3 contestants of Miss Black America. Today's culture can learn a lot from this. ✌👍

Watching this brings joy to my heart and a tear to my eyes. Comedy was better, TV was better, Music was better, African-Americans were proudly Black, Afros were in, Black Women wanted to LOOK black, and Blacks and Whites were trying harder to live together with mutual respect. I miss those days so much!
@@Beardman29 It started with Nixon and the War on Drugs. Then, we got Reagan and the War on Unions plus the War on Americans. It's been all downhill from there.
We/I am laughing but this guy worked hard & I hope his Family is getting Royalties/Benefits from his body of work. They should be proud. Just beautiful man .
You know you're old when you know and remember all these people and you feel this was entertainment at its best. You never watch TV's entertainment today so you only watch old shows on ME TV and TV Land. Actually, this not only shows we're old, but also smart.
This is history for me. This show came on every Thursday evening on NBC. My sister and I would usually be doing the dinner dishes. One Thursday night my mom calls up the stairs and says “He, girls! Flip Wilson’s on!” I called that we were doing the dishes. She said to stop, watch the show, then finish up the dishes, that this was a big deal; an African American man with a No.1 variety Show was a big deal in our house, as, during that time, we didn’t have many of us doing something this great that transcends
I agree about Flip,l have just re discovered him what a class act in so many ways and Geraldine Only he could have done all this He was brilliant This is helping us as we have just Gone thru this 3 year Covid Yes flip you are helping us heal ourselves. So thank you from the bottom of our hearts You were a special young man and a good Father from all accounts It seems everyone Loved you and admired you No negatives at all only positives Rest In Peace Dear friend You were one of a kind Hk
Flip Wilson was brilliant. Always made a statement re important social issues through humor. So sad he died so young. Read his autobiography, too. He said that his father abused him so horribly that he sustained belt lasting marks on his butt & this made him very embarrassed & uncomfortable during intimate moments with women. Very sad. Rest in peace & power, brother Flip Wilson!
Wished my own father were around to discipline me. It came at the hand of bi-polar relatives and a 'prison guard' of step-parent. I'd say if parents don't know the meaning of 'train-up-a-child-in-the-way-that-he/she-should-go', then give 'em up to someone who does. Abuse stays with you for life and manifests itself in many ways throughout adulthood. That makes for decaying societies, we're actually living in one in large part because of it.
G Carlin on TV was a Saint. In concert was raw and filthy as were and are many stand ips.. delighted to see this clean comedy. Lived Geraldine and here come the judge
I remember watching Flip Wilson when I was a kid. I can't remember any show that wasn't funny as hell. I am so glad that we have access to this show and the people that made them great all these years later. As others have said, these were the years of comedy where things were implied in the jokes and skits, but it was left to the audience to appreciate the humor. It was "clean" humor, wink wink, without all the raunchy look at me crap of recent years. I'd rather spend hours on the Internet watching Flip, Dean, Jonathan Winters and others to be truly entertained.
@@karenwhaley8635 Yes he was. I am 64 and enjoy watching the shows that I grew up watching as a kid.
