  • This song is performed and sung by José Luis Guerra, one of the members of the Uruguayan duo "Los Olimareños", the other member being Braulio Lopez. They've been performing since the early Sixties, and their repertoire ranges from love songs, to political protest songs. It were the latter than brought them fame in the early Seventies, as political turmoil swept the country. This particular song is very powerful; it relates of a farmer mourning the death of his daughter, who died of abuse and heartbreak (which is implied by the lyrics). The deep, 'oak' voice of José Luis Guerra is full of emotion, sorrow, disgust for those responsible, and contained anger, as he impersonates the farmer, relating the sad fate of his beloved daughter, hereby accompanied solely by accoustic guitars, which create a sense of darkness, doom, and deep melancholy. That's also the reason the pictures I used to illustrate the song, are all of accoustic guitars. This is therefore also a modest tribute, to an incredible instrument. I hope you enjoy!
