    Grace, I know the term isn’t as popular in the metadata as “anti-hero” is, but the term “anti-villain” needs to be used more, and describes a lot of characters, including cruella well. Anti-hero means a hero with villainous intentions, while anti-villain means a villain with heroic intentions

    • @axx012
      @axx012 3 года назад +12

      Yes. Batman's Mr. Freeze is the iconic example of Anti-Villian ( later adaptations just made him a straight villain though). The two terms you stated are not downright, those definitions. Example Spike Spiegal, a fictional bounty hunter is an anti-hero. While he does stop bag guys, it's not for the sake of justice but just to collect bounties on the people's heads. He does not have villainous intentions, but it's just a job for him. Vegeta from DBZ also turned Anti Hero. A person who only fought to improve himself ( and his ego got worse as a result). Once again not an outright hero, but someone who indirectly helped humanity by getting rid of threats out of self-interest. Yes in DBS he has improved and is closer if not a hero but I'm talking his DBZ version.

    • @wwozanewmusical

      No, cause its not what the writer of these characters wrote about in the book that started all these films and sequels, Disney is following how the character is created and jumping off of that. in the book she is a evil horrible women who doesn't care about anything but what she wants, and that includes killing and skinning animals its in her blood due to her father and his past. i hate how they try and change characters that have already been established, just to make them sympathetic. she's evil and horrible the way the writer created her in the 101 Dalmatians book. If the prequel is supposed to lead into the animated or live action movies based on the book, they should have cast Annita and Roger to look like the cartoons or the live action actors who played them.

    Sometimes you have to decide whether to just take the good with the bad, or not consume it at all. The movie was good, but Cruella's dark side was so watered down that she minus well not even be a villain anymore. You could even argue she isn't one at all. She's just an abandoned orphan taking what's rightfully hers from a very evil woman. It sucks because they really baited us with this. I don't get why they couldn't do everything they did in this movie AND give us the Cruella that we know.

    And I disagree Grace. Cruella and Jasper romantically? She’s extremely wealthy! By the time we get to 101 Dalmatians she looks down upon him. She would never consider being with a master thief. Their friendship will go from employer/employee but that’s the extent.

    • @Haiyken
      @Haiyken 3 года назад +6

      I think that Cruella and Jasper being a couple is not as obvious as Grace wants it to be, but I think there is a relationship a lot more deep between the two than in the animated movie. I do think Jasper being in love with Cruella is more than possible, but the relationship will probably be one-sided. That said, I don't think that version of the character will treat Jasper and Horace and employees, even if she's the boss.

      While I love 101 Dalmatians a lot too, I don't see how they could have the same storyline today without having problems, now that they made Cruella a somewhat sympathetic character. This movie actually goes against the idea she would even use real fur, especially dog's fur to make clothes. I think it would betray this movie to make a sequel where Cruella is looking to kill dogs.

    Just finished watching this, I wasn't really going to watch it properly, just as something in the background but it caught my attention very early and it turned out to be a superb film. The twist wasn't a huge surprise but pretty good all the same. Do I think it was setting up or even needing a sequel? Whilst I have no doubt a well-received, money-making film demands it these days, and whilst I'm sure there is scope for a possible sequel, I don't think it needs one. The end credits seemed to flow the story into the classic animated film, though I must admit I've not seen it in years so not sure just how well they marry up.

    I just watched it and thought it was quite a bit of fun! Yet I can't help but feel like this movie was so much inspired and based on the life of the famous fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood. Not only did she create a fashion label in the midst of what would become the 70s UK punk scene, but she also did it with thanks to Malcolm McLaren, who also owned his own fashionable store. I see what you're doing there, writers ;)

    Neither the writers or the director really think better the post credit scene. Was like 'gosh, this scene is good to be a easter egg or reference to the original movie' and they're just go with. A better alternative to this will be like Roger found Pongo on a box in some random alley close to his house and in fact Anita was the only one that actually receives one of the Genghis puppies and that would give the green light for the sequel without any inbreeding issues. Next time think about it better

    Baroness gets out of prison and wants her revenge. Cruella learns of the Baroness' plans to frame Cruella by creating a real dalmation coat, so she kidnaps pongo and purdita before the Baroness can. Cruella, in all her faults, is convinced Anita and Roger can't protect the dogs (especially after finding out purdita is pregnant) so she creates a new line of fur to convince the Baroness and accidently anita and roger that she's killed the dogs. She begins to acquire more dalmations to make her story seem plausible.
    Movie ends with 101 dalmations in Hell Hall.

    I was actually surprised that I liked the movie that much. I think the story and the characters were surprisingly compelling, the twists were not that original but worked great and the end felt satisfying even if predictible. I liked the editing and all the times Cruella was shown to mess with the Baroness, it was both fun and spectacular. I laughed so much when seeing Horace dressed as Cruella in the third act, such a nice surprise and a funny unexpected scene. I also liked Anita and Roger a lot, the characters were refreshing. Emma Stone was spectacular but I'm not surprised. I think she such integral to the movie being good while leaving space to the rest of the cast to shine throughout the movie. Great time watching.
    My only small disappointment is that the music/score, while very fun and good, could have been more impactful and present in some scenes. They were a bit shy, in my opinion.
    As for a sequel, while I liked then ending and nod to the animated movie with Roger and Anita, I don't think the 101 Dalmatians route would work considering this version of Cruella. They need to create another original story for her and just have Roger and Anita involved in some way, with the dalmatians. But I can't see this version going after the dogs in any way. I surely will watch another movie of this caliber.

    No notes. Fabulous. I feel like a changed person after finally seeing this masterpiece of a film. It definitely feels like Joker, with even more whimsy, which is kind of what Joker 2 seems to be and I’ve often thought to myself that that movie looks like it was made for me and I felt the same way watching Cruella. There’s something about stories of once regular members of society gradually becoming more and more unhinged to me that... And the added layer of glamorous fashion? I’m in heaven. As for Emma Stone’s performance, I feel it can be summed up in one simple line that isn’t even actual speech: the whimper she lets out when the Baroness pushes Cruella of the cliff. It comes across as funny because she doesn’t sound scared at all but that’s ingenious because it demonstrates her intelligence and cunning, she knew exactly what she was doing and was one step ahead of the Baroness. I knew I was going to love this movie from practically the moment it started, I’m so glad I finally got round to watching it and I would absolutely love a sequel (maybe they should make it a musical too...).

Any sequel where Cruella doesn’t lean into her scociopathy and retell the classic does a disservice to the original story-which is a storytelling sin because that Cruella is delightfully evil-but any sequel to this movie that includes puppy killing is a disservice to this movie!! A full conundrum... 😬😬😬
