Not sure how this video popped up on my feed, but I've done eagle peak more than dozen times, it was one of favorite hikes in the entire park. It's short, intense, beautiful views, you can look down to paradise below, up close of glaciers and summit, see several other peaks around you such as Adams. And finally you can scramble higher up to the saddle (don't do it unless you're a sure footed billy goat with experience). I've never gone earlier than June and wouldn't recommend it until July, till October latest. I've gone several times during a season between those months and can tell you, things can change in only 2 weeks. Those who are visiting on a brief stay may get wildly different experiences depending on when they go.. thankful to have lived about an hour (90min) away. Best months are July, Aug, Sep -is usually hazy but can be beautiful. While stationed at Lewis I frequented the park often even helping a couple times on trail projects and getting a pass to stay at the sites further down and behind the trail. Of all the places including wonderland (4x)... Eagle peak was my favorite, I had planned to trail run it, but never did get to doing it before having to leave. The trail can have winter storm damage early, so be prepared extra if going early. it's easy to miss the trail head our first time. -Someone had parked right Infront of entrance blocking the sign. We ended up walking right past, and into the camping and border of park. So don't be that person and literally park your Prius at the foot of the trailhead smh. There's plenty of parking further down at the visitor centers of both the camping and back at Longmire. Finally bugs are for the most part a non-issue. Depends on your pace and how often you stop.. if you do the trail in an hour you won't notice, but if you stop in the wooded switchbacks in July then you'll have some bug pressure but even then it's not bad. At the summit there's none, too exposed and wind so I've never had bug issues. Keep in mind that going early there will be snow on the ground, often times patches can linger into July, and even early Aug. I've encountered mule deer twice while on the trail, no other large animal. It's a low population trail plenty of times we've gone and no one else, or only a few other hikers. Dogs are not allowed, and don't bring your service animal, understand why you don't bring animal on that trail. Plenty of other places to visit. You'll also be unnecessarily putting yourself and animal at undue risk doing that specific trail. It's basically a nice steep climb to a peak above Longmire, but there's so so many others in beautiful MRNP.
Awesome video. I came upon the video while reading news articles and decided to check it out as a possible future hike. As soon as the video started I said, hey I know that voice. Enjoyed the video, great narrative and walkthrough of the hike.
Keith, great to hear from you! You're probably looking for a trail you can run up, right 😄. If you don't mind me asking, how did you find this video? Most of my videos only get a few views but this one is doing really well and I'm trying to understand how people are finding it. I hope all is well on your end!
@@ChristopherLum I was scrolling through Google news feeds this morning and they put your video in my feed, probably because I'm always searching for trails to hike and run in the Pacific Northwest. I didn't realize it was you until I heard your voice.
@@ChristopherLum I did a bit of sightseeing around Paradise, which definitely looked beautiful with the flowers. I did a couple of short trails there and a long one called rampart ridge. I also went to ohanapecosh. Haven't fully explored it, so I'd be really happy to go back and try some trails like this

Nicely done. It was really helpful to see all the detail of that end part of the trail. Agree that it's best to be safe when hiking solo.

Thanks for the detailed comments. It is great to hear from people who are so excited and knowledgeable about mt rainier. Thanks for watching!
Just hiked eagle peak a few days ago. Early October & beautiful weather. No bug problem.

Wow! If I go back there I will for sure have to hike here. Looks gorgeous!
It was really nice. You mentioned you were out at Mt. Rainier this summer, did you do anything cool while you were there?

Nice video thx
7:25 This looks like a super fun hike, but bugs (especially mosquitoes) seem to really ruin hikes for me. Is this throughout the entire area?
The bugs were bad only near the top. Thanks for watching!
