    Thank you so much for explaining so clearly about deadheading and pruning times for hydrangeas. Also good tip about moving the plant in a cooler part of the garden. My hydrangea has been full of blooms and now brown in colour and I didn't feel confident about deadheading the blooms. Thank you for giving me the confidence. X

    Thanks for this video! I was afraid it was too early to deadhead, but I see that it is not!! Whew! I am new to hydrangeas in containers. I thought fading was a sign that I was a plant murderer. After your video, I am relieved. Thanks again!!

      That’s exactly what I thought when I first started growing hydrangeas! Although there are times when it is my fault a bloom gets damaged 😆

    I know this is a 1 yr old video, but wanted to thank you much!! I am in midwest and cannot seem to grow them in ground... so this year I used pots. They are
    gorgeous as ever. Stunning! I wondered about the fading flower and you popped up with awesome info. I will just put these beauties in pots every year.

    Thank you for the advice. Im a gardener of many different types of flowers but I ’ve always had an obsession with hydrangeas. A couple years ago I was given one for Mother’s Day. It was a beautiful purple/blue/pink color. Amazing color! I’ve since learned color is due to the ph of the soil. I planted it and it dyed. I understand where I went wrong. This year I did a lot of research cause I wanted some so bad. Bought a pink one and a month went by and it had doubled in size so I got a purple/pink one for Mother’s Day and it’s also growing beautifully so my husband knew I really wanted a blue one and so he got me a little blue one and it too is doing amazing. My pink one the flowers are turning brown due to the age of the blooms so I wanted to cut them off to give it a new start at making more blooms. Found your video and I appreciate it. 😊

    I've always loved hydrangeas. I have two big beautiful potted ones in pots. They are doing pretty well considerably . I like the blooms when they're blue or white . Its been in challenge to prevent then from getting too much sun. I've moved then around a bit. The next concern was deadheading then in the correct spot. It looks like I did it correctly . Thanks for sharing your knowledge .

    All my hydrangea blooms went brown at the same time. They were happy for a few weeks then it happened. I’m moving it to a different spot in the yard. But will I get any more blooms this summer after I deadhead them, or will I have to wait until next year for more blooms? Thanks!

    I noticed that you have a fern sitting next to your blue hydrangeas. It's a not the plant I love, but I can never keep those. They die in a very short period of time for me. You didn't leave the link to the fungicide ?

    We had a landscaping company plant a whole bunch of hydrangeas this spring and we have been watering often in-between rains and they all look brown and have some wilting. We never really got a full beautiful plant. Is it tougher the first year or did we over/under water.

    While on the subject of deadheading, are you deadheading the knockout rose? I also kinda impulse bought one earlier this month and am on the fence if I should leave the hips or cut them off so more energy goes into growth.

      I am dead heading! Since it’s my first time, don’t assume I know what I’m doing 😆 but I did notice when I dead headed it started putting on a bunch of new growth. Right now, there aren’t a lot of blooms but there are a lot of new leaves and new buds.

    So if I deadhead my hydrangeas, then will new blooms form ? It's Aug . 24th, is there still time for more to bloom ? I live in a state where it gets colder in the fall .

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  2 года назад +2

      That depends on the variety! Some will continue to produce more blooms and other won’t.

      @@ChicagoGardener Thank you for responding to my question . I so appreciate it. It's the macrophyllia " Endless Summer Crush " that I planted last year. It grew a little bigger this year and has/had beautiful fuscia blooms that blossomed this summer . The blooms are turning now and not so attractive . If I deadhead them, will more blooms develop ? It would be nice to see more. I know it's suppose to be "Endless" for the summer but I don't have much experience with hydrangeas. Thank you and have a good night 😊.

      I’ve never done it myself but I sat through a lecture on it and I think it was mid to late summer for the best time to take cuttings.

      The only one I can remember the name for is the summer crush hydrangea! I should have kept the tags for the others, but I think summer crush is my favorite.

    My hydrangeas have brown leaves??????

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  2 года назад

      How much sun are they getting? That was the main cause of my hydrangea leaves browning so I had to move them to the shadiest part of my garden.

      I read that they could turn brown from overwatering too, if it is also mushy/soft. Or it can be from too much heat/sun.
