Don’t forget The Rock also bought the XFL, after the Vince McMahon relaunch debacle. They then merged with the USFL and are now marketing themselves as an alternative product the NFL
So, I'm going through this now. A few things: In Vengence 01, Jericho won because Austin and Rock went to bat for him. They both liked Jericho and knew they would work programs with him. Austin had spent most of 01 rehabilitating Jericho, Angle, and Benoit and helped showcase guys like RVD. I bring this up because Austin was a mentor to the Rock, famously protecting him in '99 when Shawn and Hunter were trying to sabotage his push. This ended when Austin told them and Vince, in no uncertain terms, that the Rock was who he wanted to work with. He also gave Dwayne a piece of advice which stuck with him for the rest of his life. This is the reason why Dwayne, unprompted, will talk very warmly about Austin and Bret Hart, as they both looked out for him. As for HHH's win rate... well, I guess being married to the business will do that for you.... As for the Lesnar vs. Austin thing. Austin was absolutely in the right to tell Vince, Stephaine, and Hunter to take a walk off a cliff. 2002 was an interesting year because you could see how angry both Austin and Rock were becoming with the company. Little wonder they both peaced out.
@@lindseyf.rhodesii5407 I think it must have been enraging for Austin to put all that work into elevating guys like Jericho, Benoit, RVD, and Angle, only for Hunter to sweep in and undo all of it. @@lindseyf.rhodesii5407 it's because Shawn disrespected his Grandmother and kept trying to sabotage him in the back stage. It's pretty well known by now.
What makes me even curious is the sudden ‘face turn’ of HHH, beyond the scenes. For many decades, he was seen as symbolic of all that’s wrong with WWE - nepotism, backstage politics, and a stranglehold over creative (much to the detriment of the product). Many of his peers - Jericho, Angle, Punk, openly spoke about how they never got along with him (instead backing Vince as the guy they preferred). But in the last few years, suddenly HHH is the true force of good backstage, whether it be creative booking decisions, backstage morale and talent relations - while Vince is seen as representative of everything wrong with the company.
The way I see it is that the moment he semi-retired (and again when he fully did), he stopped making everything about him, 'cause he couldn't go anymore, and instead started thinking about the future, with stuff like NXT
I mean, elements of the Old HHH are still there with the revisionist history (eg trying to convince us all that he was the reason for the success of DX)
nah, hes still the same. hes just not in the ring anymore, so he doesnt care to hog the spotlight as much. thats why hes actually liked more now, cause his ego doesnt need to be stroked as much as when he was an active wrestler.
Well he's retired from the ring, so its not like he can make everything about him anymore. And even then, he still finds time to come out to get that entrance pop.

This didn't even cover the Steiner maths he, Diesel and Statham used to make sure none of them looked weak. From a WSJ article, "according to producers and crew members on the films, Mr. Statham, 51 years old, negotiated an agreement with the studio that limits how badly he can be beaten up on screen. Mr. Diesel, 52, has his younger sister, a producer on the films, police the number of punches he takes. And Mr. Johnson, 47, enlists producers, editors and fight coordinators to help make sure he always gives as good as he gets." They're planning fights like actual wrestling matches.

Anyone else find the irony that despite trying so hard to push Black Adam as a hero and trying to make himself The Face upon returning to WWE... he ultimately just ended up playing the villain anyway?
Out of hogan cena austin and Michael’s, rock pulled the least politics when he was at the top. No story’s of him refusing to do business, no along his ball and going home, refusing to put people over, he lost matches A LOT losing his first 3 mania main events… let’s not try to even place the rock in that category of ego paranoid stars.
It pisses me off how modern wrestling fans (who didn't even watch Rock in his prime) are trying to rewrite history and portray Rock as a backstage politician on the same level as Hogan, HHH, HBK, Cena, and Austin, when in reality he was the least protected top face in the history of the company. Every top star has played politics at some point (including Rock), but judging by his weak booking, Rock didn't play it as much as the other guys I mentioned. His title reigns were short-lived, he was constantly being undermined, I'm not sure I fully buy that Hollywood "taught" him how to politic any more than he was simply out from beneath the shadow of the guy who married the boss' daughter, so always had the boss' ear. It definitely feels like his fallback because Hollywood, ultimately, didn't work out on an executive level. And honestly, good on him: most people don't get to order around the guy who tried to bury their career 20 years later.
The Rock was a star but his flame quickly burned out after 2001 he started becoming stale with his catchphrases sooner or later people would get tired of him then he joined Hollywood and the fans hated it which turned him heel The Rock never fully had support from the fans he was the right guy at the right moment when Stone Cold got injured and people found his charismatic personality and cool catchphrases alluring similar to LA Knight which again got stale and boring over time.
If you watched The Rivalry video of him and The Rock you learn HHH and Shawn Michael's abused power due to jealousy. @@captainleppy1373oh for sure! The end reveal was pretty good, but I still prefer the comic version of it. Also, was a bit irked by the fact that Doctor Fate kept removing his helmet...
When the Rock was at the top of his game, he lost a lot. Put over guys all the time and was one of the most unselfish top top guys in the industry. He might be pulling more strings now but his Final Boss character gave the bloodline a shot in the arm it needed and made Cody’s win feel even more special.
The crazy thing of all this to me with this is many people like to think as Rock wanting to face Roman who people want to say is Superman in the Rock's eyes as Roman is the biggest star in WWE. Hear me out though the Rock is probably loving the idea of facing Cody as Cody is actually superman in the wwe. Superman is a Nobel hard working guy from the country, but the Clark Kent side has been deemed a bit of a boy scout. Cody even referred to himself as Homelander who is essentially a parody of Superman. Cody vs The Rock is Superman vs Black Adam.
My theory is the original plan for wrestlemania was for cm punk and cody to team against rock and roman and then for punk vs rollins to be night 2's match. I think the rock was always supposed to turn heel and was never going to replace cody at wrestlemania but they used the heat it would gain to allow the rock to turn heel, something that wouldve been almost impossible without "betraying" the fans
We'll never really know the answer on what was the true intention on this year's WrestleMania. But there's no doubt he is one of the most charismatic people out there. Honestly if he does run for president I have no doubt he'd most likely win.
Rock saw the writing on the wall in 01,02. Despite him being the top star in the fans eyes, he would never truly be the guy. He was never going to be a Hogan, Austin or Prime Cena booking wise. His longest title run was in 2000. In a way he was just a exceptional transitional Champion. I'd say his booking pushed him further and further into Hollywood and 20 plus years later, here we are.

When the Rock was at the top of his game, he lost a lot. Put over guys all the time and was one of the most unselfish top top guys in the industry. He might be pulling more strings now but his Final Boss character gave the bloodline a shot in the arm it needed and made Cody’s win feel even more special.
Love these videos ❤
Every day people find out that "FINE! I'll do it myself and it's gonna be better than you could ever make it" is very hard
Damn Olí you read that so amazing. I felt like something on WWE or at least NXTUK.
OLI ..... Make all The puns....I SAID ALL THE PUNS ...great video.... Keep it up
I'm just glad Oli got to mention CM Punk somehow still
love these videos
The joke should’ve been “a rock and the rock”
0:46 😂 love you oli
In your Video Essays playlist its missing the Bloodline and McMahon videos
The crazy thing of all this to me with this is many people like to think as Rock wanting to face Roman who people want to say is Superman in the Rock's eyes as Roman is the biggest star in WWE. Hear me out though the Rock is probably loving the idea of facing Cody as Cody is actually superman in the wwe. Superman is a Nobel hard working guy from the country, but the Clark Kent side has been deemed a bit of a boy scout. Cody even referred to himself as Homelander who is essentially a parody of Superman. Cody vs The Rock is Superman vs Black Adam.
Homelander is a poor paradoy of Superman
My theory is the original plan for wrestlemania was for cm punk and cody to team against rock and roman and then for punk vs rollins to be night 2's match. I think the rock was always supposed to turn heel and was never going to replace cody at wrestlemania but they used the heat it would gain to allow the rock to turn heel, something that wouldve been almost impossible without "betraying" the fans
do you guys not do smackdown reviews anymore?
I will say fast five is one of the better films in the series. Love that movie
Now imagine if Eddie will go down the same road
4:28 "...which solidified Kurt Angle as a main event star"
Shows photo of fans flipping him off after the win 😂
enough of these videos we want the smackdown reviews back, thank you.
The Rock was great and hilarious in the movie Pain and Gain and he shared a scene with Kurt Angle in it
We'll never really know the answer on what was the true intention on this year's WrestleMania. But there's no doubt he is one of the most charismatic people out there. Honestly if he does run for president I have no doubt he'd most likely win.
We already have enough loser politicians running the world. We don't need another one.
I'm still mad about the rock beating CM punk
