Hello, outstanding advice. I started my grinding business in 2001 and we’ve developed into a 2nd generation of stump grinding professionals. My 2 sons have been working w/me since they were 8-9yrs old. You’re suggestions are solid, solid advice. I’m bout 2 years behind you & when I hit 60, I’ve already been planning on a lift in my garage as well. Slowing down as well but will work smarter not harder. Keep up the video’s brother, great to see someone being honest for a change
Really good ideas, thanks for the info! I got the 252 I bought in Claremore tuned up, bought my insurance, and have done 4 stumps so far. It cuts better than I thought it would. I appreciate all your videos!
Great video from a great guy. He gave sound advice on a whole range of topics- Roth IRA, part time vs full time, initial equipment, marketing, preferred customers, door hangers, internet advertising. A treasure trove of information.
Just heard you mention your retired from the Fire Service. I retired due to injuries. Springfield Florida Station 28. I just started grinding for a company and want to get out on my own. Thank you for you videos on every aspect of the business. Thanks Brother!
I ran into one of your workout partners today in Houston and he shared your story with me. I'm excited to watch your series and learn, and I wish you continued success
Thanks a bunch! Appreciate the info. I will wait to see you insight in how to maximize google. The biggest lesson I have learned from you is to be good too others. thanks for the reminder!!!!

I’ve been thinking hard about this, I’m currently unemployed and don’t want to work for anyone. This is great info and I really wanna get started on this, just afraid how well it’ll go.
You should hold seminars brother. Great video. Just starting out. Would the Vermeer sd30 stump grinder be OK? As business grows. Go larger then? I heard stump grinder guys need small and large grinders. Thanks buddy
Thanks for all the great information. Just picked up and older stump grinder yesterday. Very excited to start grinding. Just waiting on my business license and insurance.
I am retired Military, K-9 bomb dog handler, approaching 60. Need something to do, been thinking about grinding. Got experienced helper. Love your advice. I have $4000 to spend on grinder and a thou more for accessories. What would you suggest on what brand and accessories. I have 11 stumps from neighbors. I'm in Austin, Tx. Tanks in advance. Hook'em!
Hey brother, I'm also a fireman. 20 years on the job in Alpharetta, GA. I am starting a lawn business to get this all going. lots to do. Thanks for your advice. Kevin H
Started in tree work and still have a corporate job, started with a dump truck and bucket truck old and cheap but it worked. Grew it from there. Now I have more equipment and a self propelled zt1844 because my local dealer got one in as a trade in, and their support/parts have always been good to me. Liking the power it has in a small grinder and I was aware of the issues going in, but starting somewhere with the grinder and my goal is to step up in the next couple of years but keep that for right access.
Would i be able to get the door hangers info send to me. Thats a great idea. Got myself a rayco1625 and rayco 1665. Looking to upgrade in the near future. Thanks again.
Thanks so much, truly enjoy your videos. I am retired and have been pursing the stump grinding business, I have friends in the tree business and they have told me they have stumps to keep me busy! I do like however how you have done door hangers and magnets on your cards.
I bought a sgr13 stump grinder from home depot. It was all beat up and under serviced. I did what I could to bring it to better shape. It has given me some good cash.
Thank you so much for your time! I’m a machinist and fabricator by trade. I bought a SC672 powered by a 65 horse Wisconsin that I’m rebuilding. I have plans for a 252 as you suggested to get into back yards and do smaller stumps. It will be paid for before I start. I’m enjoying restoring the 672, it’s a beast!
You're the best!!...I've always been interested in this work as a retiree from the electrical industry. I have a small Toro 7hp that I bought 10 years to do our property and just recently did 7 stumps for my fiance's daughter. When she told me what a contractor quoted her, I almost choked...I got to get into this. Love working outside. Thanks for all the tips!!
Just found you. I also am a retired firefighter ( 30 years - 20 on the truck and 10 as chief). I also was in the grass business on the side and bought a small bucket truck to go with my lawn care. With that I started doing tree work - amazing how much we have in common. I also found that I wasn’t doing the stumps and giving that business away. I recently bought an older Vermeer 630B. It’s in good shape and I would like to eventually change over to more grinding than tree work. I did already have a bluebird stump grinder ( 13 horsepower Honda engine) that runs great but to small to really do a lot. I’m 56 and thinking stump grinding will be less physical work than tree trimming. Any advice. Thanks and I enjoy your videos. Sammy from Georgia
Also, just started. I bought used Toro STX 26. It Boggs down quite often on wet stumps, pine, 36 inch. therefore I can move forward on cut about 1/8 of an inch each move. Do I have enough horsepower?
I just had 7 trees removed and the stumps were removed from another guy. I was blown away with the stump grinding part. He used a brand new Rayco RG80. That thing was awesome. Remote control and 4x4. I currently work nights for a school district and we have a food trailer at a local Home Depot that my wife runs. The guy did our stumps for $500 and was gone in less than an hour. I'm interested in starting a grinding service. I'm in northwest Georgia. How do you price out your jobs?

Sorry if you have already answered this 100 times already, but when you say you charge roughly $3- $3.50 per diameter inch, is that total or are you charging a travel fee as well or minimum? If I have to go 20 minutes to grind a 5 inch tree that is only like $15-$20. Thanks in advance, great video.
