Glad to see this Fab has sucked so far. I wish it was good, but it's not. A very small example being: you can't download displacement maps from within Unreal for Megascans; you need to download the material, then open a browser, download every single texture as an EXR, then grab just the displacement.
Yes + several displacement maps went off the store completely. There was no logic behind Fab, it made maybe a few steps forward for UE5 but a dozen steps back for everything and everyone else.
I am assuming this is just a case of Epic giving the Fab developers a short deadline to create a large scale project; that just makes the most sense in my opinion. Hopefully the Fab team would polish it over the next couple of months.
Fab is the most anti consumer digital shop i've ever seen, from wishlists gone, to prices, to reviews gone, to asking questions gone, it's like they want you to buy assets completely blind, they managed to destroy both customer's and template creator devs's trust, it will take them years to go back to where they were with the former marketplace, lots of sellers are complaining that they saw the biggest drop in sales they've ever seen since the launch of fab due to users distrust of the platform through the lack of possible communication and readability of reviews and questions asked to the author of the assets.
Yes Fab sucks. I miss the old marketplace in the Epic Launcher. Every time I click on any of my assets in my library it opens up a fn browser and I hate it. They better intergrate Fab back into the Launcher, cause it lost its point for me.
Fab? More like Flop! No direct import to 3ds Max or Blender-just zip, unzip, and waste time.🥴🤔 Quixel, thanks for bringing Bridge back and saving us from this mess! ✌
If you actually making games bridge is horrible AH. Megascans website is far-far-far better since you can choose what texturemaps to download, their format, LODs for models, and all of this is independent from texture resolution, unlike in bridge. Quixel bridge is like a test wether a person good dev, or dont know what they are doing.
I look forward to when fab is a functional marketplace. Like, I really appreciate the fact they made it where you could claim all of the Megascans in one click. But still, I need the bookmark feature. I also need the integration into the Unreal launcher. Because except when I want to use something in Blender, I really don't want to have to download it manually. I mean, I don't want to do that with Blender either, but I don't have a choice, so...
I was very underwhelmed when I claimed the Quixel scans on Fab and scrolled through them, to find that they are very limited.... but just learned from you that the 18,000 assets still haven't been moved over. Look forward to that.
Finally! I was missing displacement maps in the textures, once Epic replaced them with metallic in the UE Fab plugin. Also, was missing the nice organization that Bridge offered.
Also one of the most low key underrated features of bridge was the ability to add your own custom materials to it so you had that automatic resizing and channel selection for your own assets.
What a mess. Epic Games have really dropped the ball with the Fab rollout. Thanks for covering this, your coverage is really helpful so that we don’t miss out on having access to a great collection of assets.
Your logic is kinda dumb. By this logic there wouldn’t be any progress in the tech history at all and you wouldn’t be able to even write this comment. Fab sucks right now that’s true, as well as most of the things suck at the raw beginning state. Wait few years till you realise that. When you won’t be able to live without Fab lol. (And btw UE Marketplace wasn’t great at all)
You can claim the entire Megascan library on FAB with one click, but the assets will not appear in your own library. This is probably what they are talking about, just a bit ambiguously.
@@IWillYeah well, we had a drag and drop features with an integrated UI that was very handy, replaced with an ugly web page where we have to download raw files and import them manually... They lost the plot at Epic, who thought this was a good idea?
5:00 - So glad they finally clarified that after "purchasing" the free content and as long as you do so before the end of december 31st you will still be able to download them after that date. I was worried about that as I know I will need a bunch of assets next year but did not want to spend xmas downloading it all :D
Correction: Quixel Megascans was not shut off; only the ability to claim assets was. I've been downloading stuff from them for the past few months just fine.
It is temporal though, only until December 31st, then after that Fab will get a dedicated desktop app, so it's just a temporal placeholder from Epic's side ain't going to lie.
I understand rewriting a project from scratch. I understand wanting to open the system to a wider audience. I don't understand releasing the product without meeting feature parity with the old system. I don't understand how they didn't do some testing with their userbase, it would've been a negative response. I think whoever is running the show doesn't have enough agency over their projects or they dropped the ball as leadership, failed to identify important issues and UX problems... Or upper management pressed the launch button early and nobody has noticed the team isn't delivering up to a reasonable standard. The same can be said for the EGS, they're dumping money into building a userbase but not making the system reason enough to stay. Either I'm missing a something or there is a serious lack of logical reasoning at Epic somewhere near the top.
Honestly Epic made an enormous mistake in launching Fab in its current state. Personally I won't be buying anything I hadn't booked marked in the old Epic games store at least until Feb is on the leve ot the old Unreal Store.
I had like 20 items in my favorites/ wishlist and that stuff didn't carry over. I know they mentioned a way to get that data back but I can't wrap my head around why they would make a new system the default when it isn't ready for everyone's info!?
It's mind boggling how bad Fab is and how the hell Epic ever thought it was acceptable to replace Bridge. Really glad to see this, but still disappointed it's only for legacy scans and won't carry anything new going forward.
This fab market sucks as hell.. why the fk they removed wishlists, reviews and questions !!??? now I have to search for the assets for free to test them and see if they worth buying
I find it likely that Fab may have required a major rewrite to a lot of the base code to accommodate a lot more features the project may have needed, so the Fab developers may not have been given enough time to implement everything before the deadline. Then again, I don't know. That's just the most realistic conclusion I could think of. I agree that it probably should have been delayed a few months.
The Launcher is just dead. Why do i have all the stuff for UE still listed under the engine and no way to filter out stuff that doesn't even work with the current engine anymore. There should just be a download button in fab that downloads it either to where you want or straight into the project you got open.
They nuked a built-in marketplace with text reviews and wishlists in favor of a cheap, shitty web portal to a sea of low quality 3D asset spam. What an improvement!
I dig fab though for ex for free stuff that you can prototype with quickly (low poly / base shapes) at the end you will make the assets anyways. Other than that yeah... quixel ftw.
Quixel bridge still works, just you cant download new content, all you can do on bridge now is add content you’ve already downloaded to your projects, I still use Quixel in my projects till today because Fab is so jank and slow and honestly it’s frustrating to use because of how poor its functionality is.
I must just be getting old. Because all the bells and whistles of Unreal Engine seem to just be creating unnecessary bloat and complexity. 🤔 I'm finding Godot more interesting, these days.
Can you go deep in the license differences from Unreal Engine to quixel inde? If is worth it to ask support to change. From what i saw. The Unreal engine License is only to be used in Unreal Engine, and the Quixel Inde License is not bound to any engine/software.
I'm confused. I clicked on the claim all assets, but when i go to Bridge, or Quixel, it just say i own or purchased what i had before. I'm confused since i saw some people having the 18 thousands asset showing as purchased in their Bridge. Did i do something wrong ? I'm scared to actually miss this thinking i did it right, just to realise in January i didn't haha
Yeah you didn't listen to the video. That's coming next week. The current claim all system only works for Fab. Come back next week for a way to claim everything for Quixel and Bridge.
BRO, A new engine, Nau Engine, has just been released. It is open source, it was created for a lot of money from Russia. Please make a video about him so that the project can be developed by the community.
4:33 you talk so fast it's crazy! i have the unreal license what does it mean for these 18k asset i just claim. i swear this garbage cooperate lawyers bullsh1t is crazy and purposeful no doubt!
What if I used the script that was posted before that automatically purchased all the free ones? It says I have claimed all free megascans already. Ill wait for them to add functionality to get everything next week when they can. Also maybe im misunderstanding but when I am in quixel on linux, i can export to blender just fine.
Then you are good, and won't have to use the little button to do the same thing next week. As the video said you will retain access to everything you own until they feel fab is out to snuff and kill Quixle again. If you already own everything then the button next will will do nothing, but if the script missed a couple assets you might get a couple new ones. So may as well click it anyway.
The licensing thing is starting to get complicated. Do they still see through it themselves? I end up in jail because I downloaded a bush or I click on a button and suddenly Epic Games belongs to me. 😁
I don't understand how fab is so bad? It took so long to launch after announcement and its just awful from a UX perspective, and its missing a lot of content from the stores it supposedly merges.
I dont mind FAB. I prefer having it all in one place and inside UE. I never liked having to use a website through a browser. I think everyone is just being impatient. There was always going to be growing pains and things to work out. Yall act like they're not fixing and changing things. They've already started. Sometimes you have to implement something in the real world to find all the problems that need solutions. Itll be fine, just give em a couple months, again, you all act like they dont understand and dont even use the app... Smdh In the end, itll become a far better experience.

The fact that you are redirected into the website and not part of the Unreal page feels like a weirdly half arse intergration.
Yes + several displacement maps went off the store completely. There was no logic behind Fab, it made maybe a few steps forward for UE5 but a dozen steps back for everything and everyone else.

@@andrewsneacker1256 in bridge, this is also all you can do........
you can import to unreal from under market place. is that goal? why cry bout unreal if use 3dmax(still athing?) or blender or unity
I was starting to miss all the overdraw in my project. Glad to hear it's back safe!

0:13 D’you know what is FAB? A way to complicate customers to make our life miserable. Why change something that works well??
It also forces people to pay higher prices for liscences so not a net benefit to customer.
So you say Unreal marketplace worked well before? LOL
FOR FUCKING MONEY!
to buy what u had. to make u use only unreal. to get know who is get stuff xD from database we all had downloaded fully. why we need

Very confusing* 🤣
I thought we already claim all megascans lmao.

You can claim the entire Megascan library on FAB with one click, but the assets will not appear in your own library. This is probably what they are talking about, just a bit ambiguously.

quixel bridge never really worked very well in blender for me. I'm glad it's back but it still needs work
Supposedly megascan is free on Fab but it doesn't have even half of what was on Megascan
Epic's latest lighting and texturing techs have pushed Unreal way ahead of the pack. Why do their basic services suck so hard?
