During his only trip to the Soviet Union, Kapoor landed without a visa and Russia, a country that is most definitely not known for being lax with official protocol, let him in the country with a smile on their face. While in his taxi, Raj felt the taxi is not moving forwards but upwards. It was his massive fan following that lifted him and his taxi up in air. That's how loved Raj Kapoor is in Russia and Soviet
There isn’t a Russian in my grandparents and parents era that does not start singing Awara Hoon anytime I/we met them and they find out I’m Indian and they start praising Raj Kapoor Saheb and tell me stories of how they fell in love to the songs in his movies and other stories. There’s also a video of Rishi Kapoor when he was in NY getting treatment for his illness and walked into a barber shop of Russians only to find Raj Kapoor pictures on the wall and they all started singing Awara Hoon and was delighted to meet his son.
What is that communist message hidden in that film? The film was just about human values. Not any political motives. These kind of films about human values hollywood also made.

Raj Kapoor was die heart fan of Charlie Chaplin. He once visited Charlie and cried when it was time to leave.... a great actor and legendary director..
Raj Kapoor and Charlie Chaplin were close friends.
In fact, in late 1960s, Raj Kapoor worked with Charlie Chaplin on the movie "A Countess from Hong Kong", starred Marlon Brando and Sophia Loren which Chaplin directed while Raj Kapoor played a supporting role.

Dilip Kumar is a powerhouse when it comes to acting. This was the ONLY movie where Amitabh Bacchan had to match up to Dilip Kumar, especially during the emotional father - son relationship turbulence. The actresses Rakhee and Smita Patil were great too.

SANGAM in 1964 was a big romantic hit (love triangle) for Raj Kapoor. His music was really great.
Thanks for watching this movie and recognizing the genius Raj Kapoor was not only in acting but in producing and composition of his scenes and his absolute participation in the writing, composition and production of his songs. The great singer Mukesh was his singing voice. He also endured a lot of jealousy and some people always trying to knock him down a peg or two just like they do his grandchildren but they were/are all immensely loved too. He was also known as the greatest showman.
The best Raj Kapoor film as an actor is for sure "Mera Naam Joker". As a director i would go for "Satyam Shivam Sundaram" and "Prem Rog"
Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand were called the legendary trio or the triumvirate of the golden era of Hindi cinema. Each had a distinct style and were/ are very very popular.
Another greatest Hindi classic would be award winning film "Sujata" by most renowned Bengali film director, Bimal Roy.❤❤❤❤

India was firmly socialist till the 90's....never communist....extreme philosophies never work in India for too long....people are allergic to veering too much from moderation.
Indian policies are socialist by & large it's only now we are heading towards capitalism.

Raj Kapoor’s magnum opus was MERE. NAAM. JOKER, 6 yrs in the making, which was not received too well and he was devastated and wrecked. You should not miss it, it was ahead of its time, even if it’s the last of his movies you watch. Randhir Kapoor (Kareena’s father) said it’s become a cult classic and the most profitable for their company.

Watch PREM ROG of Rishi Kapoor. It is master piece.
Do bigha zameen. The best in terms of the performance. Or watch dilip kumars movies. Lagaan was the copy of his movie Naya daur.
Good review. Really nice to hear you two. The only thing I thought you could have mentioned was the contrast in the names of the two main female characters - Maya (Nadira) and Vidya (Nargis). Maya is illusion, that what causes us to make fools of ourselves, and Vidya, the ultimate knowledge which helps to differentiate between the truth and the untruth, the good from the evil.

Cult classical movies like Shree 420 had lot of importance while building nation during those days.
When I did my MBA and doors of Multinational Companies also opened with the opportunity to go abroad, These people must have thought of my marriage with foreign lady. This is the time of release of Bed Bugs in our old home. I have black spots on face, leg, hand etc because of poisoning after bust of pimples arising from bite of bed bugs ( there were many such pimples all over the body , I wasn't intentionally busting it ) , Same is true about other social engineers who are making business of annoyance because of bed bugs in home.

Seeta Aur Geeta is in my top 3 fav Hindi movies! Ram Aur Shyam is alright but nowhere near as good IMO.

You seem to be unaware of what the film's Title signifies, why the number 420 in it ??? If you intend to say that a man is unscrupulous or fraudulent, in India people will say "he is 420", a very widely used terminology.
Raj Kapoor and Nargis were in love, one of those most famous and celebrated "real life love stories" of Indian cinema, but as usual, unfortunately, their marriage didn't materialize into reality.
And, Charlie C once old about Raj Kapoor that his one brother lived in India!
