Olivier Latry dedicated the newly restored pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge Church in the Ditmas Park section of Brooklyn New York. He is one of the four titulaires des grands orgue of Notre-Dame, Paris. He is Professor of organ in the Academy of Paris. In addition to teaching he is one of the most active concert organist in the world. He has played in over forty countries across five continents.
When Mr. Latry comes to New York City he normally plays in big famous and important venues; Alice Tully Hall, Saint John the Divine or Saint Ignatius Loyola. It is unusual for such a world renown organist to play a recital so far outside the center of Manhattan and in an ordinary parish church.
After six years of fund raising the Our Lady of Refuge Parish contracted the organ builders A.R. Schopp's Sons and Quimby Pipe Organs to beautifully restore this organ. The results are better then anyone expected - it is one of the best pipe organs in Brooklyn. Given the years of work, only one of the best organists in the world could rededicate this instrument - so Olivier Latry was asked.
With the help of many local blogs in the Ditmas Park Area we sold out the tickets to the organ recital 2 weeks in advance and this is one of the works for organ Mr. Latry played to a very appreciative audience.

2016 Update
Joe Vitacco worked as a volunteer at Our Lady of Refuge with Fr. Micahel Perry and the staff from 2006 to 2015. He led the fund raising efforts and oversaw the restoration of the organ at Our Lady of Refuge. The instrument's restoration was largely paid for with donations made by organ enthusiast from around the world, most of whom have never been to Brooklyn - these videos are for you!
Never in all my life have I seen a ORGANIST, who has such...such... total mastery of the ORGAN. He shows us by his skills he is in command... total command...it is absolutely amazing. Olivier Latry is no doubt King of the Organ.
Oh my gosh, his little smile at the end when he hears the applause.
I've only just noticed that too!
Because he was not to proud or big to come to a small church and perform his great skills, my respect for this man Olivier Latry has soared. God Bless him and may his tribe increase
Ok, I take issues with OLR being a small church. It ain't. Come visit.
There is 1 mixture in the organ. 3 rank Plein Jeu.
Love his smile at the end.
My admiration and respect for Mr. Latry shot up 100% when I learned he came to a small church in Brooklyn N. Y., passing up the popular larger ones to perform and use his tremendous gifts, and talents. He mastered the smaller 3 manuel ORGAN, and his showmanship was amazing. I wish more famous artist would humble themselves and vist, perform in small unknown churches where the meek and lowly can listen to a master artist. Bravo! Bravo! Mr. Latry....God Be With You!
Olivier Latry is a good and wonderful man - also a genius. He was so happy to play this recital. It was the culmination of so many people's efforts. The church is having 4 organ recitals in 2014 and if the are successful they will continue. All the info is here. www.olrbrooklyn.org/organ-recitals-in-new-york-city/
Just absolutely a MASTER at work!
He is no doubt a professional par excellence!!!! BRavo!
Because I have read articles and have seen the videos of the story and testimony behind this organ, I am all the more thrilled at the amazing sound of it. Wow! Dr. Latry is bringing out the best sounds of every division. His technique is virtually effortless!!! No this church is not small, but it is not as big as Notre Dame Cathedral. People are correct when they say this shows his humbleness. Congratulations to this fine church congregation for restoring this wonderful instrument. Bravo Dr. Latry!
Magnifique! Très bon choix de jeux d'orgues! On est tout de suite emporté par la mélodie et ses harmoniques.....
Merci!
alleluia song to Jesus
Simply wonderful. A master organist and a beautiful instrument.
If you are in Brooklyn go to Our Lady of Refuge one Sunday to hear the organ. www.olrbrooklyn.org/pipeorgan
Outstanding, no more can be said
beautiful sounds each division has its own clarity wow i need an organ like this at my church
Think you might need to have an extremely large church
I hope that the church makes good use of this remarkable instrument and makes certain that it is adequately maintained: then, the heroic restoration efforts will have achieved their ultimate purpose. M. Latry's playing is absolutely superb.
Beautiful!
Latry is one of the greatest living organists. His renditions of Widor are especially brilliant, as is his Messiaen. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for you kind words.
Sehr schöne Orgel, genial gespielt was will man da noch sagen
Magisterial.
I'm in shock that there are empty seats here: one would have thought a recital by Latry would have been a sell-out. Super performance, as to be expected though: and how Olivier managed to get Cavaillé-Coll sounds out of the instrument was phenomenal!
Fantastic!!!.-
He even knows he good!!!!
Très magnifique
Come hear this incrediable 25-rank pipe organ in 2 weeks from today.

this organ has never sounded better
+steve bournias Thanks but now it is rarely used at Mass. can you believe people from around the world fund its restoration and it isnt used with any regularity?
Sempre molto bello vedere la postura delle mani di Latry. Fa venire voglia di suonare. Organo un tantino fiacco però. Tempo ben ponderato, forse fin troppo.
